Very disappointed in the customer service and way of handling an over the phone conversation. I called inquiring about an old book and hoping to get an opinion and maybe a roundabout price on possibly asking for. He clearly found this as a joke and rudely laughed at the inquisition acting as if I asked for a million dollars for a Doctor Seuss book. He rudely continued to mock the situation and acting like he knew exactly what book was in my hand, he pretended it had no value and gave me no idea as to what I should do with it. Heard good things about the store, but I suppose you cant judge a book by its cover. Thanks but no thanks for the help and whether you think you helped or not. You just lost a potential customer and made yourself look childish. Take it from someone who works in customer service and think of this review as a way for yourself to improve talking to another individual.

Just got off the phone with this business and was literally dismissed and hung up on after trying to make conversation; asked about whether they took new books and was told "depends on the kind"... ok, I understand that, but when I mentioned it was a book-case worth of books, and Id already been able to sell about half (the books Im selling are brand new), He literally HUNG UP ON ME. I called back, trying to ask if they knew of any other place and got the classic "Theres a lot of static, cant understand you, sorry try other stores" line. I had a perfectly clear connection. I will never go to this store, not if Im going to be treated like that just trying to ask a question.

This shop has a large, excellent selection, well-organized, always very reasonably priced, and open 7 days a week. Every hardbound book has a clear protective cover, which you can also purchase to protect the books you already own. The store manager, Dave, is extremely knowledgeable about books, and very well-read himself. As to his so-called "prickly personality", it would be best to say he "doesnt suffer fools gladly", and gets impatient if he has to answer too many stupid questions. Hes blunt, and opinionated. But he knows books, and has a loyal following in the area.

Has to be one of the worst book stores I have ever been to. While David has a great selection, he has to be one of the rudest people I have ever met. I accidentally mentioned Abe Books when trying to sell some and before I could say anything else, I kid you not, he interrupted me and said, "I dont give a rats ass about abe books. You just lost 10 bucks" and pushed all the books I had back at me. I didnt even finish my sentence. This guy has a whole section of books and crammed in a special location. Just ask him to bend over.

Among my favorite used-book stores in the Detroit area. Doesnt have quite the selection of John K King, but rivals all other local sellers. The store is clean, well-lit, and clearly organized. Books are in the best condition, with new plastic sleeves on hardcovers. The center display is thoughtfully assembled and always changing to highlight new miscellaneous finds. Youre guaranteed to overhear a Tigers game on the radio if you visit during the "dog days" of summer.

Give or take a year or so. An extensive collection in every subject and price range--first editions and used paperbacks of good books. More eclectic than Borders, but without coffee or greeting cards. You go in looking for X, and he has it--or he has Y, which is better, or you didnt know it existed, or you gave up looking for it years ago. The closest thing to John King in the northern suburbs.

The selection was fair, however, far too many of the same books. The place is filled with a strange odor. The service was the worst part. As someone who believes in small businesses, including privately owned bookstores, David, the person that works there treated us as a burden, with a condescending ostentation. I would never go back and I would recommend people to avoid this place.

One of the rudest experiences I have ever had. My aim was to sell back some extra books but what I got instead was a personal attack on my character. Rather than simply saying that they didnt care to buy back my selection I was immediately insulted, my books were called "garbage" and my overall impression of Classic Books can be summed up in two words: belligerent and arrogant.

Im just an eight-year-old just trying to get a job, and I called to ask if they were hiring and the guy rudely said " why, did someone tell you we were.... oh I have a customer" and hung up on me. If this was the owner he needs to reevaluate his life, and learn how to treat people with respect. If not this guy needs to be fired.

The Owner or whoever the guy was working was very snippy and rude to my daughter who came with me to look for books. He didnt want her to touch anything. Book selection is decent, but prices are high, and apparently they dont like children who want to read. Will not be returning.

I just returned from a rather enjoyable experience at this used bookstore. Sure, the worker might be a little rough around the edges, but he was more than helpful in guiding me in the right direction for a starting place in dealing with Belgium and WWII. I will be back!

Practically accused me of stealing books because I dare carry my books around the store that I wanted to trade in. Didnt know I had to drop them off when you enter the store(he was busy at the time). And I am a repeat customer, not anymore. "My store, my rules"!

Ive only been there a few times, but I usually come out with something. The clerk is polite and helpful, and they have a nice selection of books, with fair prices.

Most underrated bookstore Ive ever had the pleasure of going to, rivals the Bouqinistes of Paris in terms of selection and prices. An absolute gem
