I am what you call a fan of ink. I am a local musician, my wife and I both have many tattoos and have been to many shops in the local area for work. When we started to go to Lucky Monkey we did know what to expect, but I for one was fully satisfied. Lucky Monkey isnt your normal shop as they are not there to pump out just any tattoos, they want to make art that makes thier customers happy and the artist confident that you will be satisfied for life. If you want a small M for Michigan the size of a dime or a I heart Bieber, this is not the place for you. my expierence with Brian Massey tells me that not only is he a talented artist as a whole, but has a great hand, during a session he is a fun person to interact with and more than fair to meet my demands and time and payment. He has great insight into what will work and what will not on your body. As for the rest of the Lucky Monkey family,Finn, Jessie when he was there ,Casey, Sam and all the artists bring thier own style and flare to an expienece that should last forever and not be scorched off when your 50. It is only my opinion, and this is not taking away from other great tatto shops and artist but there is only one place that will ink my skin and thats Lucky Monkey in Ann Arbor MI. You are Not Metal if you dont go to Lucky Monkey!!!!

Frank 4-12-13I heard so many good things about Lucky Monkey tattoo. So I went in there after having some very bad experiences at a few of the other shops in the metro area. I was greeted by when I walked in by a guy named Casey. He asked me a few questions of what I was looking to get done. Told him what I wanted than he pointed me towards Brian and Amandas portfolio. I was looking for something from a horror movie. Amanda was the artist there to take care of me. She took the time and talked to me. Discussing what I wanted. She took the info and my info. Booked my appt. Came back to get the work. I was excited to see what she drew up. It was way over what I expected. And it was a perfect size. She was very nice when she started to tattoo me. It took a few hrs. than she explained how to take care of it. I cannot wait to show everyone after its healed. Thank you Lucky Monkey and Amanda. I will be back again for more work

I got my first tattoo about an hour ago, some very simple lettering on the top of my back. I was a little nervous going into it (arent most people?), but Jesse immediately put me at ease. He was very calm, relaxed, and answered all of my questions before we got started. He (and a few others at the shop) helped me make some decisions about the tattoo based on their expertise, and I appreciated the fact that they were so invested in making my tattoo look exactly the way I wanted. The service here was not overwhelmingly friendly ... but I kind of liked it that way. It was very tranquil, and the people there seemed to genuinely care about their work. The entire experience was fairly painless and enjoyable. Most importantly, the tattoo looks great. I would recommend Lucky Monkey.

The Lucky Monkey is great - very clean, great artists, good location, reasonable prices. I go to Mandy and she is amazing. Shes done all of my tattoos so far and I know I will keep going back to her because she does great work and shes a very friendly person, which is a big deal when youre going to be sitting under a needle for five hours. Shes very creative and always listens to what you want but honestly I prefer to give her the idea of what I want and let her put her spin on it. Shes also very professional - when I had to reschedule an appointment last minute because of an emergency, she was completely understanding. That meant a lot to me. Everywhere I go, people comment on my tattoos and ask me where I got them. I always tell them The Lucky Monkey, and talk to Mandy :)

It had been about 20 years since I had last gotten a tattoo, Lucky Monkey could not have been a better place to have the work done. As a single dad, I had some schedule challenges, they worked me and help me get a time that worked (I even had to reschedule). Mandy was FANTASTIC as an artist and I could not be happier with my work. My previous tattoo became red, swollen and scabbed after it was done, so thats what I went in expecting. I was shocked to have none of this happen with my new tat. I can only attributive this to the skill of artists involved. I would 100% go back and have already suggested Lucky Monkey to a few other people as well. Plus, as an added bouns, you just may run into a Detroit rock icon while getting inked, pretty cool!

The artist I had (Brian Massey) was overbearing and not willing to let me use my own design...instead he constructed something completely different, only vaguely reminiscent of the original concept. He was unwilling to change his design to my liking. Next time I will go to a true artist who puts the clients opinions before there own; it wont be on the "artists" body for the rest of their life, afterall. To add to that he covered my tattoo with saran wrap which any professional should know is horrible for a fresh tattoo. My friend who got tattooed there by another guy was very dissapointed and had an allergic reaction to the ink they used. Anyway, shouldve done my research and my fault but that doesnt mean that this shop is any less horrible...

I love that I was called overbearing... Ive serviced thousands of satisfied customers and never been called overbearing lol. Thats the problem with reviews like this. Anyone can post anything they want and make us look bad. Whoever lovelaced is didnt complain at the time... and artists very often have to change designs based on "tattoo-ability". Some things just cannot make a good tattoo the way they are on paper. We have to consider a lot of factors. And most artists use plastic wrap. They even use trash bags on LA Ink lol. Lovelaced, if you werent satisfied you didnt tell me at the time. You should have addressed your disapproval before you let me put it on you permanently. Sorry you were dissatisfied. Cant win em all I guess.

As someone with a back and forearm full of tattoos, Im pretty familiar with the process. I walked in at 8:30 pm on a Friday night (they close at 10 pm), and NO ONE, literally not one other person, was in the shop. I was looking for a solid black line tattoo, 0.5x6 inches, on my chest. They informed me that they wouldnt be able to grant me an appointment until Monday?! They condensedingly told me that "its more complicated than you think." Im not a tattoo expert, but I do know that a single, solid line tattoo takes less than a hour and a half, especially when the shop is empty. Ill be in Ann Arbor for many years to come, but I will NEVER return to Lucky Monkey.
