I wont be returning to hockey monkey and will not recommend it to my fellow female skaters. I went in to purchase a new pair of skates, which if you play hockey, you know are going to be pricey. I was with my parents, as the skates were supposed to be a Christmas gift. My father was acknowledged by a store associate at one point, but no one stopped to help. We stood there looking at skates and waiting for someone to come over for at least 10 minutes. Now, that might not seem like a long time but when the place isnt busy, thats just an absurd amount of time to wait. My father then went off to the bathroom and it was just my mom and myself. We waited another minute, still no one asked if we needed help. There were two boys trying on skates with their dads there to help. So, my mom and I went up to the associate who didnt even let us ask a question, just held up his hand and go "Ill be with you in a second. Im the only one working." Now, I worked retail for years. I understand that the holidays are a tough time for sales associates. But following this kids comment, he turns back to the kid who was just starting to lace up his first skate and go, "so whos your favorite hockey player?" Im standing there, literally ready to drop a couple hundred bucks on skates and you cant take two seconds to go grab me my size to try on? The kid had his dad there with him, he doesnt need you hovering, man. I dont know if it was because it was a mother and daughter asking for help or what, all I know is that I drove over an hour to get there and the dads with their sons were getting more assistance than was even remotely offered to my mother and myself. Just an FYI to the kid working in the skate department today, women play hockey, too.

In terms of selection and pricing, this store cannot be beaten. Every size, every make and model, they have it or can get it ASAP. Im also a huge fan of their skate sharpeners who cut my 7/16ths perfectly every time. My only gripe has been their customer service department has been sorely lacking lately. Recently I went to purchase new skates and the store happened to be stormed with people doing the same thing. No problem, however it took me forever to get ahold of someone as they were all busy and appropriately focused on the people they were with. However, after purchasing some new skates elsewhere (as they were sold out and wouldnt be getting any more of the model I was looking for) I came to get my skates baked, punched, and sharpened. Came at a pretty low key time of the week with few customers. Instead of giving me the laser focused attention everyone else received a few days prior, the guy who helped me baked the skates and then left me alone as I struggled to get the new skates on and tightened up. My only other experience with baking skates was radically different with the sales associate helping me 100% of the way. I left Monkeysports today with skates that fit better than before, new laces, and several blisters on my hands. Will I return? Probably, but just to sharpen my skates. Really disappointed with a place I previously loved.

Monkey sports Norwood does not back up their products for defects. My daughter bought cleats on saturday. She wore short time and developed a thick welt in Achilles area on right ankle. She and her sister have worn cleats for sixteen years without an issue. Top of heel on right cleat seemed to be extending too far forward. I went back on sunday with receipt and cleats. Salesman and manager refused store credit or exchange or any suggestions to deal with problem. After my disappointing visit to monkey sports norwood. I dropped by another store and priced out replacement cleats. A helpful salesman made several recommendations about the defective cleat. At Monkey Sports the emphasis was on refusing return or exchange. I will say MS staff were polite and were following corporate no return policy if worn. However with obvious defect... I do not recommend the store.

Goalie store really needs to assess its customer service level. They are seriously understaffed. If you need to figure out equipment sizing, or need to spend a little extra time with staff, its nearly impossible. I give the staff credit. They try to bounce around from customer to customer, but theres no system. It usually spirals into a situation where the loudest customer gets the attention regardless of when they walked in the door. Eventually walked out of the store with my $800 still in my pocket. This was not a one time issue. On at least 3 separate occasions they just didnt have enough staff to provide basic service. Unfortunately, I wont be returning for a 4th.

Received solid help finding correctly sized goalie pads. They have the best assortment of equipment that Ive found anywhere in the Boston area. Goalie help was fantastic and gets five stars. For other protective equipment for the defenseman in our house, the staff was approachable and professional, but wasnt able to provide any real guidance. They asked several times if we needed help, but when asked why we want Bauer vs. CCM vs. Reebok, they didnt have answers. Some product training would be a useful thing for the floor staff. Still, the ability to try on and see the equipment up close is useful and worth the trip from anywhere in the Boston area.

Drove an hour plus to store and spent about $700. The customer service was lackadaisical at best and I was not offered the correct skate size from the online store (no one bothered to check) nor would the online store make good on it after the fact when I called. NOTE: You CAN NOT buy products online & return/exchange at store and vice versa; this is an inconvenient and FOOLISH policy. Also, I would have purchased more items while I was there if anyone there gave a "*rap". Ended up going to competitor and will not go out of my way to shop at Monkey Sports in the future! Wait a minute... perhaps its run by a bunch of Monk... forget it.

Tried to return skates used twice, as sales rep had told me there was a 30 day return policy. Not so, once they have been baked and sharpened. Pure Hockey takes them back, but not this store. Manager offered me a 25% discount on a new pair of skates, but really? With three kids (incl. a goalie) who play hockey, our annual spend on hockey gear has to worth something more than $60... Apparently not, so we went to Pure Hockey in Braintree, where the service is great (they even repair helmets for free rather than saying you need to buy a repair kit) and spent over $800 on the gear we needed. Thats the plan from now on.

Worst experience ever, and not the first time...Had skate blades changed for kid, supposedly "expert" sharpened the new blades. Drove 2 hours to his game in the next state, the next morning and he couldnt skate. One blade was partially sharp on one side, and the other skate barely touched by the machine. Had to sit on the bench and open the door. I could not have been more pissed off, I trusted them that they had an expert person who knew how to put n edge on a new blade. If your one specialty is sharpening skates, and you fail miserably, you should be out of business...
