Store started going downhill when you could no longer use gas points locally. The closest Safeway gas station is almost 28 miles away! On the negative, the deli has been overtaken with hormone raging teens who know little about customer service. (Hint: Customers dont want to hear about who is "talking to" whom and who got drunk at a party. They also dont like being ignored as they stand at the counter and patiently wait for you to end your off color conversations. Finally, when someone asks for 1 pound of ham and after slicing a 1/3 of a pound you realize that you will have to go in the back to get another ham, we dont want you to roll your eyes at us when we are not persuaded to accept the 1/3 instead of the 1 pound we need just so you dont have to walk your lazy body back to get a ham. We realize that this takes away from your social time with the other teen deli clerks but whether you understand this or not, we pay your paycheck. A little professionalism would go a long way.) The manager(s) and the "Customer Service" staff couldnt care less about how the customer is treated and handled. Really unfit for their positions. The bakery has some real bright spots. The young men that work there (late teens early 20s) are phenomenal. They are always friendly and greet the customers with a smile. The young lady who bakes cakes needs a lot of work. I ordered a cake and she used the wrong colors (pink for a boy) despite me leaving specific color requests. When I picked it up a few hours before the party, I was flabbergasted that I would have to present a boy with a pink cake (especially when I requested Blue). All she could say was I could either take the cake the way it was or pick a cake out of the case (none in the flavor, filling or colors I chose for the cake I ordered) So it was a take it or leave it, I dont care attitude. Because of the late hour, I had to take it. I would have taken my concern to the management but I know from experience that they simply dont care. I made my last purchase ever at Safeway yesterday. I will not be returning.

I can no longer recommend this store. After redoing it, the central office is making crazy stocking decisions. One example - in a town where the per capita income in around $22k, they have decided its a good idea to take up about 25 sq ft of the store with eco-brand cold brewed coffees. You cant find staples any more - theyve drastically reduced the shelf space for pasta, canned vegetables, and other things regular shoppers need. The staff has told me that they are very frustrated with corporate and are trying to get more of the old stock back, but thats not helpful when my one-stop shopping trip just doubled because I have to go to one or more of the other stores in town. There are Weis, Giant, Food Lion, and Shoppers in town as well where you can still get the basics - maybe Safeway is trying to distinguish themselves from those other stores, but theyre doing it in a very bad way. They do still have a nice produce section, but thats just not enough of a reason to make a separate trip. They also have a very bad habit of leaving new employees alone at the register with no guidance. If you have to call a superviser over 3x during one check-out, then youre not yet ready to work the register alone. I only hope the management would rather give them more training but finds it impossible with their current staff and budget tartgets. They seem like good (if very stressed) people. I also hope the store manager is successful in convincing their corporate office that these are NOT good or appropriate changes. It really seems as though they think this store is in a high-income area like Bethesda or Potomac and that wont meet the needs of the typical shopper here.

While this is the closest store to me I can no longer shop at Safeway. Over the past year and a half it has consistently gone down hill. It is crowded and overpriced and there are not enough checkouts open. They depend heavily on the self checkout but they are seldom all working. The managers often seem annoyed and they seem to have a high turn over. I have heard neumerious employees stating that it is not a good place to work. You also have to check the dates on items. I have often gotten diary or meats that were out several days to a week after the sell by date. The one thing I will miss is their pharmacy. They know me and are always so helpful. Too bad the store could not be the same way.

Came over a buddies house to show him how to make something for dinner so he could impress a lady suitor. Upon reaching in his fridge for chicken thighs he bought not two hours ago, there was a rank, odious smell. I held the chicken to my face and nearly vomited. If I hadnt been there, he might have not known and went ahead and ate it, putting himself or whomever he served it to in the hospital with food poisoning. As a chef, selling turned food is the most offensive thing a grocery store can do. The butchery department needs serious education. Not to mention the shelves are usually empty and there is no floor space anywhere. This is a garbage store.

The cashier rang up one bagel as a dozen donuts. We went to customer service for our money back to hear rude comments from the woman working behind the counter. We explained to her that the cashier put milk ON TOP of lettuce and that she needed someone to help her in the express lane. The woman VERY RUDELY told us that she was new. And they dont get help bagging in the express lane. Safeway has the worst service and customer service is hardly existent. We will be shopping at Giant more frequently.

Lunch time, only two registers open, express and regular. Person in front of me at 15 items or less, separating her purchases into three different purchases, has wic coupons for each. Took safeway attendant forever to get that woman checked out. Need separate lines just for govt assistance. Need more check outs open n when people are trying to purchase their lunch.very frustrated. Wont be shopping there anymore.

Horrible, just horrible. The prices may be good but when you have to wait in line for 20 mins because theres only 1 register open and it happens to be the slowest lady in the world, the prices arent worth it. Ive never had to wait so long for groceries at Shoppers, Weis, BJs, or Giant and I spend a lot of money on my family of six. Sorry just lost a customer...

Pharmacy staff was rude. Came in with 2 prescription and I was treated like some kind of junkie, they wouldnt honor the Good Rx coupons and told me they would need to call my physican to verify if it was ok to use the coupon without insurance????? Then told me they were sorry but completely out of both of my medicines Wow never coming here again.
