I shop at this Safeway at least once a week. The managers and staff are very accomodating, helpful and polite; unfortunately, they often seem short-staffed and are a bit hard-pressed to deal wtih all the customer demands. I have not seen any rude behavior on the part of the staff; they are all very gracious and some of them go above and beyond to help the customers. Having said that, there are often pricing issues (outdated tags on food) that result in sale items not being sold at the sale price. It is a hassle for everyone involved to resolve those problems. There are some high-quality foods here at reasonable prices; if you shop here often you will find your favorites that you cannot find anywhere else. A case in point are the asiago cheese jalapeno bagels, which are very fresh and usually 50 cents or 59 cents each. Great deal, great flavor. The prices at Safety in general are lower than at Giant and certainly lower than Whole Foods. The store itself is a bit cramped and dated in appearance; that is why I gave it four stars. At the same time, its compact and you can always find things easily without having to wander a huge store. The parking is great and very convenient (and free). I hope Safeway keeps this store open as it is so much more convenient for me than the other small number of groceries around this area.

I hate going to this Safeway. The cashiers are indifferent at best, rude at worst. They have zero customer service skills and couldnt care less about being slow and inaccurate. I have been overcharged there so many times when Ive bought discounted items because the cashiers dont pay attention when theyre scanning and dont scan the discount sticker. They usually dont even say hi or thank you or anything except "you need a bag"? They look annoyed to even have to ring you up in the first place. The selection in the store is not that great either. They routinely run out of stuff on sale, and its a cramped little store. After having gone twice already this week trying to get corned beef, and they were OUT both times, I just tried calling the store three times to ask if they have some tonight and ask them to hold one until I get there...and no one ever answered the phone. Thats just flat out unacceptable for a business! The only reason I go there at all is that I live 2 blocks away.

I have to concur with the overall sentiments by Christopher. The cashier and manager staff there is horrible. Theyre downright rude. The guy running the fish counter is a great, as is a gentleman in the bread department. But the rest, ugh, theres no way to describe how terribly they treat customers without seeming outrageous. Oh, and theres cockroaches in the drinking water fountain. The manager looked like he couldnt care less when presented with this info. The store is in dire need of remodeling. Theyre totally replacing the store over on Arlington Road. They let that store run into the ground for well over two years leading up to the renovation. Perhaps thats the plan here, to let it totally fall apart. Or maybe they just dont care. Oh, what Id give for a Wegmans in Bethesda... I likewise WILL NEVER GO BACK. Its a shame because the location is relatively convenient for me.

I agree with most of the other comments / reviews here. You will go to this shop if you do not value your time. They are usually well stocked and they meet most of my my needs when it comes to my grocery shopping. So why do they get only three stars from me?? The store manager is hardly ever present, and they are heavily understaffed. You will grow old standing in the serpentine queues. The lines are long not because they have that many customers crowding in, but simply because the store does not open enough tills simultaneously. Its annoying to stand in the queue for 20-30 minutes (I kid you not, a good part of half an hour) while the actual shopping itself i.e.the process of going through the aisles and loading the shopping trolley usually takes no more than 10 minutes. Babies come out faster through the womb than someone standing in the line at this shop.

This place is understaffed no matter the time of day. I have never seen more than three cashiers at a time. Usually they only have two. This is a management issue. They have "express lanes," but they dont actually open them throughout the majority of the day. So that "quick trip to get something for lunch" takes twice as long as you expect it to, every single time. Most of the people who shop here are getting small loads of groceries, between 10 to 20 items. These could easily be taken care of by installing self checkout lanes in the area of express lanes that are currently being under utilized. On a different note, this place has an Amazon Locker.

The Safeway is my go-to spot when Im on lunch in that area. Its usually quiet and very clean prepare food is okay I must admit Im addicted to Starburst unwrapped candy and goldfish. Fruit and vegetables are perfect and it always seemed to be a sale when Im in there. But I only gave it 4 stars because they allow dogs in the store so thats why I stopped eating fruit and vegetables. Im sorry I love animals but not where I buy my food. Maybe theres a lot of service dogs in the area but I still cannot. The associates is top-notch and very friendly

This place used to be a comfort place full of nice employees, but now it changed because of its poor employee training. For example, there are two young African-American guys usually working at the night, and they just treat their customers as gatecrashers. In addition, because they tend to put groceries into the bag carelessly sometimes I needed to deal with broken eggs. If the manager of this store sees this review, please advise them to correct their behavior and attitude.

Maureen and Nakisha were outstanding in helping me to select items to donate to those in need over the Jewish Holiday. Their "can do" spirit was a tribute to Safeway. I had very little time to carry out this project, and they both were terrific in assisting me. Their kindness, their knowledge of the store sent me on my way...5 grocery bags in hand! Congratulations on having such fine employees! Gratefully, Marlin Feldman

Understaffed. Bad customer service. There is always an issue going on in this store to keep you waiting and not letting you get your shopping done in a reasonable amount of time. And, if you need to return a merchandise, buy a lottery ticket or simply have a question, no one is ever at the service desk to help. You gotta keep asking around and wait about 30 minutes for a service staff to show up.

This store is directly across from my apartment building. They usually have everything, and I agree with the other costumers that the soft lighting provides for a nice shopping experience. My only issue is that the lines are too long, especially when Im only running in quickly for one or two items. This store would much benefit from a self check out!
