Well, Rabbit Hash! Sounds like some kinda cuss word, doesnt it? Weve heard about it for years and finally made the trip from Louisville, stopping by Brays Orchard for peaches just west of Bedford, Ky. They make real peach ice cream, too, not to be missed in season. We moved on to Madison, Indiana stopping to lunch at the Lighthouse Restaurant, on a floating barge docked at the foot of the strip park that runs along Madisons beautiful riverside, done the way I can only wish Louisville had done it. Thank God the barge was floating, its just better that way. The restaurant is the Midwests supplier of the very best shrimp basket, with the shrimp done just to the point where they "pop" when you bite them. Those who enjoy them that way will know exactly what I mean. We set our GPS, selecting the short stretch up the Indiana bank viewing the many nice summer trailer and RV camps that line the banks of both sides of the river above Madison. We crossed back to Kentucky on the bridge over Markland Dam, then onward to Rabbit Hash. My expectation may have been a little high for this historic general store, because I mistakenly thought it had a small restaurant. The character is more like a place where you select your soft drink (soda for you yanks) or beer from the many offered, or snack food and go out to one of several picnic benches and enjoy the breeze and view of the river just below Covington and across from Rising Sun, Indiana. Sometimes grilled food is available from the place next door. Never mind the big old dogs the come to lay about the area. They wont bother you unless you want to pet them. Theyre very sweet dogs. Having adjusted my expectations to appreciate what this watering hole does offer, we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon. Dancing and motorcycle groups may stop by at times, but our Monday afternoon was quiet.

If you like odd places, cool history, and friendly people, come to Rabbit Hash. I mean, the place has a dog for a mayor! They have the oldest general store in the country where you can buy a cold drink and sit on the front porch as you drink, chat and make new friends. IF history is your thing...this place was part of a passageway on the underground Railroad. This place is really big with bikers. I have never been to Rabbit Hash at night, but last time we ate at the Scalded Hog. Good pulled pork sandwich! We also did some free wine tasting at the wine shop. Its free, its fun and perhaps you can get a picture taken with the mayor! ;)

We went here just for the iconic name and history that the store holds. The store itself is very neat and there are all sorts of things for sale. The town has a lot of antique stores, a small winery, and kick-knack shops, there is one place that sells BBQ. The view of the Ohio River is great and we enjoyed the vibe and scenery.

A great destination for a ride. Pack a picnic lunch and eat at the rustic tables overlooking the Ohio River. Then shop the store which is chock full of a wide variety of items. Cold drinks, ice cream bars and popcorn await if you did not bring anything to munch of your own.

As a Group of old school bikers. we have visited Rabit Hash several times while out on the motorcycles. It is a nice stop, the people are generally friendly. Parking can be interesting at time but it is a good spot for an outing. I do plan to visit again this year.

Cool place to stop while taking a Sunday drive or ride. The store opens at 10:00 am, contrary to the information on Google. They have some snacks, sodas (including craft sodas), and beer to enjoy while you are sitting on the patio and watching the river.

An absolute must if you are in the area. A fire gutted the general store, but the town and outsides pulled together to have it rebuilt the exact same with some very talented craftsman using reclaimed lumber. Please visit and donate.

Really cool place. Est in 1831. The General store burnt down last yr. I was told It was rebuilt to look exactly the same. They tore Down 5 old buildings to use the 1800 lumber to rebuild. Looks like nothing ever happened to it.

Definitely worth some time and effort to go visit. I hear it is also a biker destination. Right on the bank of the Ohio River, pretty place to visit...along with the two or three other buildings in this very very tiny town.

Fun for a little general store throwback stop. Getting in and out is a giant pain. Huge motorcycle stop, usually 70+ bikes line the one lane road in front of the store on the weekends. Nice riverview as well.

Off the beaten path, but worth the trip. Its like stepping back in time to a bygone era. Sundays are great in fall, potluck & live bluegrass. Gas up the Harley and head down. Dont forget to pet the mayor.

Unique experience in a rural area with live music on weekends and crowds that seem too large for the area. Keep in mind, they dont want to get bigger, put in a light or widen the road!

Great place to ride your bike out there. The roads are fun to ride on the way. The staffs were polite and courteous. Got some refreshments and a burger. Will visit again for sure.

On a lark we decided to check it out. I had never been there. Drove 1-1/2 hrs. The lady at the general store was VERY UNFRIENDLY. Next day trip will be to friendlier ground.

An historical dot on the map that takes you back in time. The general store and the Mayor are the center points of interest.

This is supposed to be a cool piece of local history, but theres a sketchy biker gang that sits on the porch all day. Pass.
