I have been a customer of the Town and Country Market in Slater, Ia for 20 years. This is such an unusual small town market mainly because the owner, Larry, has an eye for quality and for natural products. The selection is very good, prices are competitive, Larry will do special orders for you, hes expanded the store nicely and everythings easy to get to. Only complaint is that sometimes the staff (including Larry) arent as friendly as Id like but that depends on who you get and what kind of day theyre having. They carry your bags to the car if you want. If youre traveling on 69 or I35 its worth driving over to pick up groceries - faster than a larger store in Ames or Ankeny and a nice stop on your trip.Want lunch? the bar down the street used to have good food but I havent eaten there in quite a while.

Prices are decent with a good selection , but only takes cash or local checks. Id do most of my grocery shopping there if they accepted credit/debit cards.

My neighborhood grocer. Great meat counter, good selection of equal exchange coffees and teas. No beer otherwise probably would have been 5 stars.
