This review is only for the custom framing service offered at Blick, and not for their store as a whole. Based on my experience using the Blick custom framing service, I cannot in good faith recommend anyone having a custom framing job done there. First off, the facts about this service: - You can expect to pay around $400.00 retail price for a framing job on a larger print (~26" X 40".) This is for the standard glass with a wood frame and a matte border. Expect to pay more for higher quality glass or frame. Both times Ive had custom framing jobs there Ive paid about $300 with a 30% off coupon. - The turnaround time was bout 2-3 weeks both times I used their service. The reason Ive used their custom framing service more than once is because the first print I had framed there turned out pretty well, until I had it hanging on my wall for about 2 years. The print came loose from the matte inside the frame, and started to sag. Note that the print was never handled roughly or dropped. It was only transported from Blick to my home. I took the print in to get adjusted, and when they finally got to it after about 2 more weeks, I got a call from an employee who told me the frame was cracked and would need to be replaced. He also said that the wrong type of frame was used and was not strong enough to support the large amount of glass used. When I originally picked out the frame I had done so based on the advice from the person working at Blick! What gives?! They also said it would cost about $200 to get a different frame put in, after I had already spent over $300 and been advised to put the wrong type of frame on the print. I would be happy if they replaced the frame for free, but that would not do that. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience. I would strongly advise people to avoid the custom framing service at Blick, and will be passing the word along to people I know!

As far as an art store goes the Iowa City Blick is what you want in an art store. Its bigger than most and is not cramped because of the size. What impressed me the most was the service. All of the staff seemed to be staying busy even when not taking care of a customer. While we were checking out the woman waiting on us (Emily or Amelia?-I wish I could remember her name) was SPLENDID. She was very busy at the time yet when we got up to her she literally went out of her way for us. The nicer we were to her the nicer she was to us. It is because of her I will be a regular here for sure. She bent over backwards to take care of us.

Everyone is super friendly and helpful. If you have any questions about art materials, almost always someone in the store has used it and can give you recommendations based on experience. Plus there is always a decent selection of most items, so you arent stuck with a single brand of anything. Favorite art store ever, I highly recommend them.

Blick has been my go to place for art supplies for years. They have a great selection and fair prices. Best of all, the staff is always friendly, helpful, and knowledgable in any city Ive shopped at. Iowa City is no exception. The staff is wonderful! Dont bother with Hobby Lobby or Michaels if you are looking for quality art supplies.

This store has really turned it around in recent years, so Ive updated my review. Its a total transformation from a few years ago. Ive visited a few times in the past year (2015 to 2016) and the staff have been very helpful, friendly, and customer-focused. I am becoming a return customer again.

while a few of the staff are knowledgeable and helpful, it is a crap-shoot as to who a customer actually gets. the materials they have in most areas are limited and of low quality and over-priced. unfortunately, the only alternative to is order online from someone else.

I shop here quite a bit and the staff is very helpful. They also know their stuff. Selection is better than youll find anywhere close. Prices are Ok. Quality is across the board; you get what you pay for.
