Well, first off my experience with Derek and Motolab was the polar opposite of the experience Julie apparently had in her review. I contacted Derek weeks ago regarding my Power Commander that I had bricked while trying to upgrade its firmware. He offered to purchase the programming tool needed if I agreed to come in and pay for him to recover the unit - this is at a fraction of the cost of the tool I will likely need only once. He quickly got my PCIII back up and running and we moved on to the larger issue of running my 2006 ZX10R on his Dyno to perform an overall HP run. The rest of the day was spent working through a few throttle positions to address a detonation issue (knocking and pinging) at low RPMs and flatten out my CO numbers. The labs fees arent cheap, but he spent a lot of time off the clock educating me about a variety of concepts and the meanings/purpose behind the five gas system and how each was used (or not used in the case of O2) to fine tune a bike. Also, over a very pleasant 2-hour lunch we were discussing various issues including the advantages of using his FactoryPro dyno over the Dynojet inertia model which would provide inflated HP numbers or other systems that relied only on O2 gas. The bottom line is I learned a lot, he was extremely thorough and efficient. I never once felt like he was sandbagging and wasting time. Every minute was productive. If you want something done right or even a custom piece/system engineered then this is your guy.

I had the same experience on the phone with Derek as numerous other callers. I was greeted with sarcasm and a complete lack of interest in earning any business. I was on the phone for 3 minutes 48 seconds and was not able to get a straight answer or any helpful information until the last 30 seconds. All I wanted to know is if they do general maintenance on motorcycles. He should not have been shocked to learn that the company website is not particularly helpful in characterizing the type of motorcycle work they do here (since many people seem to have that issue). I was finally able to learn that they specialize in tuning and design/fabrication of functional/performance modifications. I doubt I would go here with my tuning and design needs in the future, given that I would likely have to waste my time dealing with Derek again.

It was an incredibly good experience and worthwhile investment to work with Derek at Motolab. I have an old Kawasaki csr 1000 KZ (from the old Mad Max period). They revived it from ending up in a graveyard. He was like a surgeon, but with good bedside manner and use of laymens terms if needed for me - in his ability to convey specifics of what was wrong, and what needed to be done. Now we are enjoying this old vintage....getting in our trips to Big Sur etc...re-connecting with the joy of riding. It was SO worth it!! Even just listening to him talk about the workings of the bike was a great learning experience for me. He was wonderfully honest, and came through on everything. I had taken my bike to other shops with very poor outcome. I will now use only Derek / MotoLab for anything in the future.

Serious job, from any type of motorcycles to cafe racer conversions, I have not meet Derek in person (but one day), always via mail but I always have an perfect answer, he is very respectful with me since I meet via Yamaha Radian Group, no matter dumb questions he enforce me to be better about my ride knowledge, in fact I bought some parts with good quality, price and fast shipping... parts not easy to find. This Review is to recognize MOTOLAB as a perfect place for a Moto Riders. Thanks Amigo!

If you are looking for good customer service, dont go hear. I tried calling and asking some typical, simple questions before I chose to get work done and Derek was one of the most rude people I have ever experienced. He began to raise his voice and started yelling at me asking why I was calling...dont bother going here unless you want to be treated like crap. Thats not how I would run a service based business.

I found this place through the adventure rider forums, and I had already gotten a lot of free advice from Derek on tuning my bike. I had a couple carburetor parts that needed replacing, so I came to these guys. They had what I needed in stock, were cheaper than trying to go through a dealer, and always came off like they knew exactly what they were talking about.

Jon and the gang got my Derbi GP1 up and running in no time! Worked with me to do the necessary repairs to make it reliable and safe and not break the bank. Honest, helpful, and informative. I found my new scooter shop! Thanks MOTO+LAB!

Great shop, fit me in and did a simple repair quick and fast. Also made sure I understood what he was doing so I could do it myself in the future. Helpful, friendly, and clearly knows what he is doing.

Bought some parts to rebuild the carbs on my 93 gsx1100g, I ordered the wrong pilot jets and he caught it before they shipped, I never would have caught it and he saved me alot of problems
