Before I provide my review of Genuine Tattoo Co, LLC, I want to establish what credibility that can be established through this forum. I have been getting tattooed for more than ten years now. I have been a client in Southern California, Australia, Baltimore, Texas, and the Midwest (Genuine Tattoo specifically). I am also an ex-body piercer with numerous piercings myself...some I have kept, others I have not. Genuine Tattoo Co, LLC is the finest shop I have been to thus far. The shop presentation is excellent with a large amount of flash to choose from. The shop not only looks and smells clean...it IS clean. Each tattoo and piercing professional will make certain that you are educated about the cleanliness of the hardware to be used prior to your piercing/tattoo. About the artists: for those of you who do not understand the importance of apprenticeship in this industry....anybody can buy tattoo/piercing supplies online and start doing body modifications. That is NOT a true professional. A real tattoo/piercing professional must appeal to a veteran artist, spend countless hours in the shop learning ALL aspects of how a shop is run, and then complete an apprenticeship which can range from 1-2 years in length. EVERY ARTIST AT GENUINE TATTTOO HAS APPRENTICED UNDER SHANNON (the owner). Also, every tattoo artist is also a piercer. That aspect has seemed to have fallen by the wayside these days. In my opinion, there is something to be said for a shop that employs their tattoo artists as their piercers as well. In many cases, if you go into a shop looking for a piercing and speak to a tattoo artist they will tell you, “Oh, you want to talk to so-and-so, they’re our piercer.” What? Are you limited as a tattoo artist with respect to what you can or are willing to do? You will not find this attitude at Genuine Tattoo. For those of you who claim to have had a poor experience at Genuine Tattoo, no disrespect intended, but you are either inexperienced when it comes to shop function, etiquette, etc. OR perhaps you did not take care of your tattoo/piercing as you were instructed. These cats know what they are doing. In closing, if you have read this much of my review you are probably very serious about the research of your tattoo/piercing artist so…good on you. So what do you really want to know then? I highly recommend ALL ARTISTS at Genuine Tattoo Co, LLC. So…get tattooed damn it!!!

Please choose another tattoo shop for your tattoo work. My husband and I came to Genuine Tattoo Co and Dave because we had heard that they were supposedly a well respected shop in Bloomington, IN. We had gone to that shop on recommendations from friends and reviews on the internet, however, we are very displeased with the final result and have actually just had the tattoos re-done by a real artist in Ellettsville. We changed our initial design for wedding ring tattoos based on the suggestions of, and expertise of, Dave as we felt we should respect his knowledge and experience. But after the tattoos had healed we were not at all happy with the final product. We went back to that shop twice in an attempt to have them fix the work and they refused. Additionally, the owner actually refused to talk to us at all. If you care what is going to be on your body for the rest of your life go somewhere else, preferably the shop in Ellettsville!

I just got a tattoo here yesterday. From the moment I walked in, I was actually greeted and not ignored! Already, I knew that this was going to be a different place than ones Ive been to in the past. I then showed Sarah a sketch of what I wanted to get and she was very excited to take on the challenge. In fact, everyone there was very friendly and seemed to love their job. The whole shop was clean and had great decor as well. Sarah did a GREAT job on my tattoo. She made sure that it was exactly what I wanted and also took the time to make sure that every detail was taken care of so that she was also satisfied with the work. I definitely think that I got my moneys worth and that they are not overpriced at all. I know that when I am ready for my next tattoo that there will be no question about where I take my business!

Well today i just went to have my first piercing done... i felt i didnt want to support some cooperate chain or get mutilated by a silly piercing gun (duh good idea right?) so i looked all over bloomington and found these girls (and guys), walked in great super chill atmosphere nice music + friendly people and an amazing selection on jewelery i wanted to get my ears pierced so they gave me all sorts of information on size and sterilization and did not force me into anything i didnt want. the actual piercing was done with great accuracy and a steady hand. Now i have 2 amazing piercings that i am so happy i had done here. Thanks so much, and if i want anything more done while Im still in Indiana i will definitely go back! ~Fox

"tattooing on hands and feet does NOT hold pigment as well as other parts of the body and takes more time and effort to properly heal. there will be a fee charged for any touch ups." this is the warning on the release form, which every customer must sign and acknowledge before getting their tattoo. this is not a situation that arises often but when it does more often than not it is not that the customer is upset with the way the tattoo healed but with having to pay a fee for the tattoo needing touched up. you can read more about this in our FAQ section of our web site. please do your research and educate yourself on the topic before you get tattooed in these areas so we can avoid any situations such as this.

Just like last time.... VERY CLEAN!!!! Gets a +++ in my book! Very professional, knowledgeable and a Grandmaster at his craft for sure. Shannon was able to take my chicken scratch idea and turn it into a full on home run! If its your first tatt or your 100th, I think you will find Shannon and staff will make you feel at home and comfortable! Trust me... that is very important! I am 100% sure... a tattoo is one thing your gona spend the rest of your life with and you are going to get what you pay for! For me... wether or not I get another tatt???? but if I do it will be this shop who does it. I am not a paid employee...LOL! Heres one Birthday present I will have for a long time! Thanks for the gift..Shannon!

A couple months ago, I went with a friend to Genuine to get her tattoo- it was later in the evening (around 9) and Dave was willing to stay to work on her. He spent several hours drawing her design and making sure it was what she wanted (she came in with several pictures to work from). His work was extremely professional but he was also amiable and funny. I went in myself a few days later to have Dave start what will eventually be a sleeve- this first one went on the inside of my wrist. Again, I came in with a picture of what I wanted and Dave did a great job with it. This was my fourth tattoo but my first with an artist besides the one who did my other three, and I will definitely be going back. Thanks, Dave!
