I love Jewel, but lately it has been a hassle coming in there. My main issue is that you got rid of self-checkout and replaced it with Fast Lanes. The problem here is that the fast lanes are not always open. If Im going in there for a few things I just want to go in and go out quickly. I grocery shop there all the time but in the morning I walk in to just grab a canned coffee drink and go to work. The past two times fast lanes were not open and only 1 register was open, which there have been customers with carts full of groceries. So unlike before with self-checkout where I was in and out in a couple minutes, Im waiting for upwards of 10-12 minutes just to buy one thing. If theft was a concern and that is why you got rid of self-checkout, Im not sure if you made the right decision to try and solve the issue. Instead to combating theft, you only punished the customer. Invest in lost prevention, not Fast Lanes that are not open all the time. Ill continue to shop with you because your employees are friendly and polite and have a great selection of product. You guys do a great job and that is what those 3 stars are for. Solve the issue with faster checkout and youll earn those other 2 stars.

Im older than dirt and have been going to Jewel forever. On Wednesday 041311 at about 8:40 A.M. I bought about ten dollars worth of food and asked the cashier if I could write a check for fifty dollars over to pay my cleaning lady who was due at my house at 9:00 A.M. The cashier told me she could not because I never wrote checks at this store. I usualy pay using cash or a credit card. My Drivers License has a Sycamore address, my checks have a Sycamore address and I have never written a bad check in my life. I could not believe the lady cashier so I asked if there was a ATM machine in the store of course not and she said the bank downtown has one. No other help was offered so I drove 2-3 miles to downtown Sycamore and withdrew one hundred dollars from a ATM machine which cost another two dollars for service fees. I went home, another 2-3 miles and payed the cleaning lady. We are talking about $50.00 dollars which might put a half a tank of gas in my truck. I ripped up the check and my Jewel card and swore never to step foot inside a Jewel Store again. Maybe its the water in Sycamore,never again. Brownss County Market here I come.

This Jewel is infuriating. I try my hardest not to come here, but its the closest to my house. Im normally a no fuss shopper considering I worked in retail for so long, but on the rare occasion I do need help with something the employees ALWAYS have an awful attitude. I get it, its early, but being snuffed off by THREE employees when all Im trying to do is get someone to override the self checkout for a cough syrup purchase is really frustrating. I understand if youre not trained for self checkout or something, but to have two people roll their eyes and make me run around trying to find someone else is slightly absurd.

Jewel must be feeling the pressure from competitors. Prices, especially in produce, have become more competitive. Replacing self-check lanes with express lanes that seem to always be staffed is a good move. Staff seem friendlier when seeking help to find elusive items. I have shopped much more at Jewel in recent weeks than ever before since this store opened. Glad to see the improvements.

Every time I go to this store, there are many expired items. I have to make sure I check every item before putting it in my cart. One week I found string cheese that was 2 months expired. I told an employee about it. I went back to the store a week later and the expired string cheese was still on the shelf. I again told an employee. This is unacceptable!

Always have to check dates for expired products such as milk, cheese, meat, fruit. Not sure if the employees are lazy and not doing their job or if the manager is allowing expired product to be sold. The produce is usually on the verge of going bad, horrible selection. I will usually have to drive further away for higher quality of products.

Price for flowers doubled from what I was told it would cost a week ago when I requested an arrangement. When I questioned this, I was told "you dont have to buy it". Rude and inconsistent.

Very expensive, the deli never has enough help.Everything is so expensive! Butera Market in Genoa has the same products for 1/3 of Jewels price, the deli has the same brands.
