I am giving 1 Star because my experience in the store was a 2 and a half due to not being giving the price match and the 10% additional because they wanted to charge me for a cook county fee because I was price matching Cabelas...Last i checked thats BS You are not in Cook County...so I paid an additional $50 for my item because the employees did not adhere to corporate policies for price matching...I will be picking up my item today (which was my first purchase here). When the price match info is listed and the employees would not give me the additional 10% because of a 1.5% difference in tax rates between the 2 stores...so 1.5%=10% in what la la land..I have serious thoughts of just getting my money back on what I purchased already...after waiting over a year to purchase the item...and on top of all of this dont even bother trying to call the firearms department unless you call back non-stop for 20 minutes...Customer Service is not their strong point to say the least...This is one way to ruin a Christmas Present to myself Updated: After posting this and getting contacted by the store manager, he more than made up for the major screw up...I have been back on a couple occasions since this experience was isolated to the one occasion, and will chalk this up to being around the holidays.

I understand the mixed reviews. Ive been coming here for years, several employees are quite good, a few long term employees have been on the rude side, and turn-over seems relatively high. Customer service at gun counters seems to be a common complaint (here & elsewhere); I suppose guns attract a fair amount of wannabes and nuts who want to chat with the staff about whatever, still, the assumption that a customer fits into such a category before talking to him or her is problematic, but seems to be a common one if you read reviews of various gun shops. The selection of goods has diminished over the years, probably due to the economy, I remember when they had a selection of bass boats in the back corner. Sales and clearance prices are good, though regular prices are nothing special (not high, just nothing special). Good source for Carhart. Ammo selection is uneven. I will continue to shop here on a regular bases. Ive occasionally been treated poorly, but overall, my experiences have been positive

This store has a decent variety of products. The camo department is quite large as well as the footwear and camping. That being said the store is starting to become rundown. You notice the lack of enthusiasm or any trace of energy in the store under the florescent lights. The shelving is stark white and old fashioned. Products are unorganized and kinda just thrown where ever, often put on pegs but not bothered to change the price label. The roof leeks badly in several spots, the 4 associates I noticed in the entire store looked bored and never acknowledged us (not that I could blame them working there all day). It just seems this store is under some neglect-ant management and the standards to what this store opened up to have slid down hill over time. If you know what your looking for and the price your looking for then its not to much trouble. But my advice to this store is to get new management if you want to survive, because the sad state of the store made me want to leave and not come back.

Im fathers day shopping looking for a gun holster and remembered that there was a Gander mountain in the area so I decided to call. I asked the man who picked up if he had any 40 cal gun holsters for a specific model. The guy from that department said "Listen, I have a bunch of guns sitting here on the table so I really cant help you right now, Im busy, come in and we can see if we have anything or not" I told him I wasnt able to make it in considering it was a bit out of the way and needed to know if he had a gun holster in stock because I wasnt staying in the area very long and wanted to grab it before the weekend if it was in stock.. he said "Check online go to our website and store and you can see the stock".. I then said to transfer me to someone who can help me find the product Im looking for and he replied "No one is available can you just call back later?"... Horrible service from that guy. Ended up finding a local gun shop to buy a holster from. Somewhere with nicer staff.

They have a gun selection and some stuff, but not everything. The people at the counter ask if you want to see anything when you walk up to the counter. They dont come back to you once they ask you. They definitely dont try to sell you on something. There is no one else working there except the girl at the register. She spent more time helping me than the gun counter staff. They never have any good .270 Win ammo. I was the unfortunate recipient of a Gander Mountain gift card recently. Unfortunate because I dont care for the store, and when you try to complete your order on their website, all of a sudden they have issues on their end, and expect me to come back. I could call, but I suspect no one on the other end would care to get my order correct. Cabelas or Bass Pro have nothing to fear.

I was treated rudely and abruptly by the sale associate in the firearms department. He walked off before I even had a chance to even react…so I guess needing time to make a decision is not a consideration at your establishment, and it was not busy, there was only one other customer there. I have bought firearms and accessories at this store in the past, but never again. Unbelievable…you would think is was something personal. While I was waiting the other customer complained about the bad service and lack of knowledge by the sales crew also.

I Dont live in the area so I tried to call ahead to see if Gander Mountain had a particular compound bow in stock, I was transferred to a gentleman who stated "were backed up today, I am sorry i dont know what to tell you" and then he hung up... This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Guess Ill be shopping at bass pro shop and Cabelas from now on

Great selection of items, particularly the firearms and alike accessories. Ive never had too much trouble in any department. Not quite an over abundance of stellar service; good luck finding a retail store that provides as such. Bottom line, if youre in need or even interested in firearms or any of the camping/outdoor gear, its certainly worth a look.

Surprisingly good, after all the negative reviews here. I liked the "Take a Number" at the firearms counter, that way nothing is rushed, and nobody barges in. The guy at the counter was very helpful in getting the paperwork done, and I was out of there in a half hour, despite some confusion over how many parcels I had ordered online.

Tried selling me a used, dirty, inflatable boat with a leak as new. The box was opened, and I was lied to and told it was checked to make sure it was not used. Very poor customer service by the manager and stock room employee, though I must say the cashier and customer service over the phone were very understanding and helpful.
