Stay away no deals here!!! Prior to driving to the store, I called the Algonquin store for information on the 1st responder or Military firearm pricing program. The gentleman who answered the phone said “Yes, we honor the 1st Responder / Military program…what is it?” I explained the program and I asked how do you know that you honor the program if you do not know what it is? He replied “We honor all discount programs, and especially now during our liquidation sale” “In addition to price matching, and our already low prices, we have an additional 15% off” everything in the department he responded. OK I said, I’ll drive there and see you soon. Upon my arrival at the store May 11th I went to the Firearms department only to find it vacant. After waiting and looking around for some help I finally found an employee who rudely said “I am very busy you’ll just have to wait” Sorry, I replied I did not see you working with anyone, at which time he departed for the back room without a customer. I did not see him again until approximately 15 minutes later. During that time another customer who also was looking for help decided to go behind the counter unescorted. I told him that that probably was not a good idea, but he went anyway… Immediately 3 people emerged from the back room offering help. Imagine that!!! When I finally did get some help I explained my recent phone call regarding the 1st Responder / military program) and was told “No we do not participate in that program. Again I told him of my prior phone call and asked him as well, “Do you know what the program is? Not exactly he replied “but I know it has something to do with Cops getting a discount. I’ll check with the Manager to be sure” After about 5 -10 minutes or so he returned and said “No we don’t honor that program, but we do have 15% off all firearms. OK let’s take a look at your prices I said. He showed me a few of the firearms that were on my list and each one of them was priced higher (by a sizeable margin) then regular retail prices of other nearby stores such as: Dales Guns Marengo, Marengo Guns, On Target Crystal Lake, Gat Guns Dundee and 2nd Amendment sports in McHenry. And to add insult to injury these were the 15% liquidation prices and they were still higher than retail at other stores mentioned above. . I found the same to be true of supplies i.e. ammunition, cleaning supplies etc. I asked about the price matching and showed him the LE/MIL price guide, to that he replied “I think those prices are below our cost I have been told that we have always been priced a bit higher than most others, I suggest that you keep checking back to see if we lower the prices as the liquidation progresses. Other than that there is nothing more I can do for you. I suggest that you go to one of the other places that you mentioned” I told him that I would have gone to the locations that I mentioned first had you (Gander Mountain) not misled me by my initial phone call. “I just wasted 3 hours of my time and effort for nothing, Thanks a lot” He replied No problem glad I could help have a nice day” !

Went in yesterday just before they were closing and bought a pair of boots on sale. I realized after leaving the store that they werent steel toe and I couldnt wear them for work. I called today to ask about their exchange policy and was told that they dont exchange, but sometimes make exceptions and was transferred to a manager named Kyle. He rudely explained that once merchandise left the store, it no longer belonged to them. I asked about the exceptions that had been mentioned by the first employee that I spoke to and he just kept repeating the same rude sentence and then said he didnt know anything about that being said because he wasnt on the phone when it was mentioned. I said thanks so much, and he hung up on me. No wonder this place is closing. I could understand but it had already been mentioned that they make exceptions, the boots were bought yesterday, and have never been worn. Worst customer service skills ever. The guy could have at least been nice about about it considering I just made a $70 mistake.

I walked into Gander Mtn. today 11-04-15 to p/u my online order that was ready for p/u and I was treated as always - like the employees appreciate me being there-me a lowly customer!,they made me feel like a king!-rolling out the red carpet! I cant tell you in so many words how happy I am that there is a store like this only 6-7 miles from my home ,they have everything you can imagine relating to sports and hunting supplies, home defense firearms etc.,a vast selection of ammo and handguns,rifles,shotguns-you name it, AND WITHOUT COOK(Crook) COUNTY TAX! REMEMBER THAT! And associate Mr. Martin was especially helpful when I could not locate a pistol cleaning kit.My hats off to ALL the staff at GANDER MOUNTAIN In Algonquin-they are ten star rated in my book!

Decent selection, but I do dislike their price match policy. I went here looking for a specific firearm for my wife and to get the waiting period started, figured Id swing by on lunch. I knew the local store by my house had a slightly better deal, but when I arrived I was told not only did I have to have a paper copy of a competitor price, but I couldnt even use their computers at the desk to do it. That was just the start. Lots of red tape to show them not everyone charges MSRP for a firearm. Oh well, I waited till I got home and got a great price in Marengo. Shop carefully!

I would like you to know that you have a very impressive employee at your Algonquin IL store. It has been several weeks since our purchase and I am only now getting to write this to you. Austin is a very informed and helpful associate. I came into GM with my son to purchase a rod and reel. Austin outfitted my son with exactly what he needed. He also spent some time talking to my son about fishing, set the rod and reel up professionally and really made a great impression. This young man has a bright future. I was the third customer to walk in the door on 10/7/2014 and have returned several times since then. All staff I have encountered were friendly however some were more knowledgeable of the products than others. This is something to be overlooked. With other firearms dealers in the area, this store desperately needs to lower its prices to be even close to competitive. Id love to see this store succeed but Im not sure they can compete with GAT Guns, Marengo Guns, or OnTarget with their prices at least $50 more on each firearm. Bummer.

Drove all the way out here an hour from my home to purchase an item. Was told they would price match. Well thats a lie. They claim they have to call corporate for approval. After waiting for 30-40 minutes they would not price match the item. What a waste of time. Its no wonder these stores are dropping like flies! Over priced and clearly dont know what theyre doing! Dont tell people youll price match and then not. We wont be back here ever!
