This place is the best. The owner/only apparent employee is super-knowledgable and friendly to boot. Hes got everything from Atari to Xbox 360, and all the stuff in between. Used vintage systems and great classic games, as well as really rare finds that youd only find elsewhere on eBay. Dreamcast, Saturn, TurboGrafx, SNES, NES - you name it, this store probably has it! The prices on all the stuff in the store seem pretty comparable to what youd find on the internet, but with 100% more instant gratification! The owner seems to get to know the tastes of his return customers, as Ive been given a couple of really good recommendations for games I might like since Ive started shopping there - a nice touch that you would NEVER EVER EVER get at a corporate suck-fest like GameStop. The store is well-lit, meticulously organized, and just plain fun to shop in - more than I can say for Video Games Etc. out by the HIP mall (People Play Games closest comparison). Lakeview-area games enthusiasts - NAY - the Chicagoland area should feel proud and privileged to have such a fantastic and unique store to call their own!

Huge selection of vintage video games, even pretty rare titles like Illbleed and Castlevania Symphony of the Night. PPG is just a hop from the south loop and a very short walk off the red line Belmont stop, so its really conveniently located for me. The biggest advantage PPG has over any other store/ebay is the prices. Everything is at least 2-3 dollars cheaper not counting shipping youd have to pay with ebay. I bought a play it loud gameboy in red for 30 bucks, in PERFECT shape, when ones in lesser condition were going for 50 bucks on ebay. I also got a original playstation console for 12 bucks when they were going for about 20-25 online. The staff is always willing to help too. Once when I was buying a gameboy game I was a couple cents short and the cashier took money out of her pocket to help me out. The prices, staff, and convenience will have me coming back again and again.

Since Game Crazy vacuumed up what was Funco, there hasnt really been any place in Chicago that you could go for some good old fashioned cartridge goodness. Fortunately, "People Play Games" is willing to fill the void. Just up Clark (right past "Chicago Comics," no less), youll find the ultimate geek haven. These guys have eeeeeverything. They have an intense collection of NES titles, tons of Atari carts, a pretty good SNES line-up, plenty of N64 and playstation titles. If youre looking for anything SEGA, theyve got it. Gameboy carts galore. If it came out more than 8 years ago---this is your best bet for finding it, if you dont want to jump on eBay or amazon. Sure, theyve got newer titles as well--but thats not going to fool anyone, this place is obviously a shrine to the golden era of video gaming. You can also Buy, Sell, and Trade. Check it out.

I live in the suburbs of Chicago so this place is a bit of a haul for me. Ive been three times and have received ok customer service. But that doesnt bother me, it is a game store afterall. I purchased 4 NES games my last time in and I keep a clean console and all my games are in really great shape. I clean games from where ever I buy them before putting them in my NES. My last trip to this store will be my last. I purchased 4 NES games. One will not work. Cleaned the connectors, took the cart apart and even cleaned and further inspected the connectors. This game will not play without lines on the screen. The other three needed thorough cleaning. They are too far away for me to drive back and return. My recommendation is stick to ebay. Prices are better and Im yet to get carts in the shape that this place sells them for

Friendly service, but the prices arent any better than their competitors. I find it strange that their prices arent more competitive than say Ebay, or Gamestops retro offerings. Also, there are many common games that are not in stock. The fact that I couldnt find any Sonic or Streets of Rage games is kinda disappointing. Lastly, its kinda lame how they increase their prices the moment prices increase on auction sites. For example, one week they were selling Shenmue for about $20 - $30 then the next week the price shot up to $80 because of Ebay. What is the point of going to this store if I could save some gas money and pay the same amount at the comfort at my own home? I really cant recommend this store over Ebay unless you need the game right away.

Unfortunately this store had opened up after I had moved across the county, however every time I visit I make it a point to get out there and pick up a game or two. The pricing is very reasonable and when purchasing games on disc (DC, PS, et al) the discs look as if theyve never been played at all. They must have tons of spare jewel cases as well as most Ive purchased looks brand new. For me Ive never had a problem with the condition of the games Ive purchased. Every time Im in there the staff is busy cleaning newly acquired hardware so you know that Turbo Grafix 16 console you want to purchase wont have dried soda residue near the card slot. Now that Im thinking about it, I should have picked up a Turbo Grafix 16. I miss that system. Next time!

You can see why people talk about it so much HUGE selection of retro games, and you will find just about every console made there for sale. Including some unusual ones like the 2600 Heavy Sixer and Vader, in a locked cabinet you will find the more hard to find items like a Turbo Express boxed, the time I was there they also had the TV tuner for it in the box. Let me tell you those items were not cheap by any means. Overall: If your looking for most games up until the N64 era you have a good chance of finding it there. Original Xbox forward including the PSP, small selection at best. One thing worth mentioning they polish all optical discs before selling them. Prices are a bit high for some items but fair, well within normal ranges for these items.

Ok, This place is owned by a Jew that has no idea how to capitalize (which is almost an oxymoron). I am a big fan of this store, I love what adam is trying to do, but NOT HAVING A WEBSITE?!!?!!! Is he out of his mind??? I understand the technique of not wanting to sell on a site, as it might slow down foot traffic in the store, but to not at least have something with contact info and pictures of the store. This is the biggest marketing mistake since Shakira was paid 100 million dollars to do Pepsi ads. I think Adam needs to show that he has more confidence in his product than to just expect that people are going to search random sites to get any info. PUT UP A WEBSITE!!!!!

Amazing selection of classic videogames. NES and PS1 games dominate but they have plenty of obscure sega genesis, saturn, DC, T16 and atari jaguar titles & accessories as well. Adam gives fair value for games & systems that you cant deal anywhere apart from ebay or the odd pawn shop. I agree an official website would be beneficial- but Id hate to see their inventory depleted by grubby ebay collectors thru persistent mail order. PPG is an invaluable resource for all things a gamer could want....need a Wavebird controller? ...want to recapture that nostalgic glow from the classic SNES days? This is the place.
