My friends and I had budgeted a few thousands dollars to purchase some guns, buy some tools, and setup an airsoft field, complete with buildings and bunkers. During our purchase however, one of the older store clerks decided that we were not customers, rather that we were a pack of common thieves. The first aisle we went down, after pickup up a tool he told my friend "Put that down before you hurt someone!" We understood this because it was a sharp blade, but we have 5 acres that we are building trails through. The after a few minutes this staff person then said, "Why dont you come out of that aisle!" Thinking this a little odd I decided that we had seen enough of that aisle and we branched out into different areas. One of my friends was browsing the guns (he was planning on purchasing a $500 gun that day) while I looked at the light bulbs that dont attract bugs for our front porches an my brother and his friend browsed in other areas. I asked the staff some direct questions about the light bulbs but his response was interrupted by the other staff person actually YELLING at my brother and his friend. I specifically remember him saying, "YOU DONT HAVE TO TOUCH EVERYTHING! WHY DONT YOU GET OUT OF THAT AISLE?!" I thought it was a little odd, since he had said the same thing about the previous aisle. I went to investigate, and found my brother and his friend cringing in fear while this staff person yelled at them. I asked what the problem was and he told me, "THESE TWO ARE TOUCHING THINGS!" I paused wondering how to respond to that and then asked them, "Are you guys touching things???" The stupidity of the question hit me because, customers TOUCH things, its normal and of course my brother responded, "Yes, but we didnt open anything, we were just trying to decide on which screws to use." They were in the screw aisle, yes the entirely breakable screw aisle. What a worry if they dropped a box of screws and it what? Oh, NOTHING would have happened because screws are not breakable NOR are they expensive! Thinking this I walked over to the staff person to find out why he was YELLING at my brother. I asked him directly, "Whats the problem here?" His yelled response was, "THE PROBLEM THOSE TWO ARE TOUCHING THINGS!" I smiled and responded, "Ok and?" He then started glaring at me then he ACTUALLY GOT INTO MY FACE and yelled at me which I dont remember because I couldnt believe that he was yelling at me TO MY FACE. My response was, "Perhaps you should be more polite to your customers." His response was, "MAYBE YOU SHOULD TELL THEM NOT TO TOUCH THINGS AND IF YOU DONT LIKE IT YOU CAN GET OUT!" Again, I was incredulous at this treatment so I said, "Are you telling us to leave?" And his response was, "YES, ALL OF YOU GET OUT!" Shaking my head in disbelief I told all of my friends that were leaving. We all went directly to Lowes and the Army Surplus Store in Brooksville and will never return to this place. After emailing the owner, this is his response: "I was initially quite concerned with your complaint however, after reviewing the tapes...it is my opinion that your group was not acting like adults who should be unattended in a hardware store." We are all in our 20s or 30s and it is quite obvious that this owner is discriminating against of because of our age. This is not surprising because this store is oriented towards the elderly community in Spring Hill and the owner is a Multi-Millionaire. Our total purchase at Lowes and the Surplus store has been over $1000 and will likely hit the $2000 mark within the next month, but through the eyes of Ageism we are not customers.

We had JUST moved to the area, from West Tennessee, back in April. About a month later, I realized I needed was a few filters for our new home, as the ones that were still in it were WAY beyond needing to be replaced. I decided that, rather than driving all the way to Lowes for these few things, I would just go around the corner to this place. Being new to the store, I didnt expect to be treated the same as the existing customers, but I will admit, for a small, family-owned store, it felt more like I was bothering them. They wanted to talk more to customers that they knew than me. Rather than being asked if I needed any help or assistance, I had to reach out to one of the stores employees. After checking out and putting the filters into my truck, I realized that I had meant to look for a hitch. We had accidentally left all of ours in TN. I went in and again, reached out for assistance. I was guided to the hitches and then left alone. When I went to the front to check out, again, I felt like I was truly a bother to this woman. She seemed more aggravated that she had to check me out, again, rather than joining me in laughing at myself. I see advertisements for them and laugh. They are so far from the family owned and operated store feel that I have experienced in other places. As a matter of fact, I get WAY more assistance and friendly service from Lowes, so I will continue to drive past Crowder, and go to Lowes for my household needs.

I have been in this store an been treated very rudly as well. I have also managed several small bussiness and currently my own. For an owner to defended the yelling at customers is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If the customers were indeed acting like fools you ask them to settle down, POLITELY. If the dont dont you ask them to leave POLITELY. If they dont you call the police and they will yell for you, yes it is as simple as that. I dont ever think that it is a good idea to yell at someone who has a machete in their hand. For my own experiance I went to see the gun selection in the gun store. Apparently I was suppose to know it was only open on certain days of the week. When I inquired about the guns the rather large seemingly useless man barked at me the day of the week like it was suppose to mean somthing to me. How hard is it to say its only open certain days of the week with out being rude. But I guess that is the price you pay when you interupt two employees chit chatting with each other. I returned on the the proper day, avoiding the rude man, and visited the gun shop only be be treated like I was a bother while the woman was talking to her friends. When I finally got her attention I hardly got two questions answered before she was chating with her friends again. I have not been back since. The prices for their fire arms was very high as well. I would urge anyone and everyone to stay away from this shop.

I have been to Crowders a few times. I will say prices are extremely high. I do understand this is a small neighborhood store and convenience does cost a little more but not two to three times as much. People in the store are not very friendly not very helpful and spend much of their time chatting with each other and ignoring the people that spend their hard earned money there. I would not recommend this store to any of my friends. Its really sad , we need more small independent businesses in this country and to have a nice little hardware store like this and run it in the ground with shabby management is truly sad.
