WARNING! We bought two Golden Retrievers from here a year ago. I wish I knew what I know now about puppy mills and pet kingdom. We paid around $900 dollars a dog. From the day we took them home the boy Leo was sick with kennel cough and could barely breath. We didnt notice until we took him out of the store. the lady that was dealing with us seemed pretty hurried to get us out of there. The good thing is he is still alive, unfortunately he wheezes when he does any kind of physical activity. When we took him out of there and found out that he was sick we called the store and was told to take him to their Vet. in Lehigh Acres. DO NOT DO THIS. This is the same Vet that said he wasnt sick, he signed off on the paperwork earlier that day saying they were in good health. If he lied on the paperwork, I have to ask the question, what else did he lie about. Well this Vet gave us something in an unmarked bottle to treat him with. Later that night Leo could barely breath and we had to take him to an emergency Vet. $$$$$. Leos tongue hangs out of his mouth all of the time as well, mostly likely hanging tongue syndrome. The female, Daisy, has a pretty severe under bite, her jaw is slightly tilted to one side as well. They are obviously inbred, but we do love them. Before we bought them I tried to find out who the breeder was from one of the employees, I was told that they didnt have the information but I would get it when we were taking them home. When we got the paperwork both charts said they were female, we didnt notice that until we left unfortunately. The breeders name is Annette Moeller, at least thats what the paperwork says. A search of her only comes up with a few things. The one real thing I can find: "BREEDING DOG & PUPPIES #s ANNETTE MOELLER – IA. 6/9/10 Puppy 151 Adult Dog 97". You think a reputable breeder would have some way of contacting them, or even some kind of internet presence. All I can see is that on 6/9/2010 she had 151 puppies and 97 adult dogs on hand. Keep all of this in mind when you are thinking about buying any pet from Pet Kingdom. Some of the names on the Certificate of pedigree are suspect as well. For instance, the females fathers name is "A Star is born". Going through their family tree there are tons of names like this, "Chance of Thunder", "Easy on the Eyes". Who names their dog "Chance of Thunder"?! Someone with a lot of dogs. A PUPPY MILL. How do I even know that these are the real names, I doubt they take the time to accurately track who is mating with who when they cant even put the right sex on the C.O.P..

On the surface, Pet Kingdom "looks" like a really cool place. They have a nice jungle theme, iguanas and monkeys displayed in several places, and constant activity. However, when you really get up close and look at the store, it is not even close to being a "good" pet store. My least important problem with them is that their prices are ridiculously high. However, the following problems are much more serious to me: They have dozens of dogs in tiny open-topped containers walking around and laying in their own filth (which you can smell from the entrance), they have dozens of baby turtles (many sick and dying, and well below the USDA minimum 4" size), their monkeys in the back of the store are in a room way to small for their arboreal tenancies, their reptile wall is abysmal and is full of sick and dying animals. Regarding the last point, on one of my visits, I found 2 adult chameleons with severe metabolic bone disorder, 3 pythons with tiny water dishes that were bone dry, one python with a severe mite infestation (who also had no water at all), bearded dragons and iguanas walking around in weeks-old feces, and at least 2 frogs that were near death. The bottom line is, the store is maintained by minimum wage kids who dont know what theyre doing, and managed by managers who dont know and dont care. If the owner of the store focused more on quality and maintenance than she did presentation and puppy mills, the place could be amazing. For now, it is barely more than a sideshow attraction...you know.....if the smell of feces and the sight of half-dead animals all around you is something youre into. My advice: If you want a dog or cat, go to your local shelter and spend some time picking out an animal there. If you want something exotic, spend the time and do the research to find a local breeder to work with. If you want pet accessories, go to Perky Pets on Palm Beach Blvd or order online from Dr Foster and Smith or any other online pet retailer. If you want to see monkeys, go to the freaking zoo. Dont give this place the time of day.

If i could give this place 0 stars i would. This place is horrible. The animals are so badly taken care of it makes me sick. We rescued a cat from there today. When i came in and saw the cats they had two persian kittens. They had 4 cats sharing one litter box. I asked to see one of them and when he brought it out i could not even hold it. it smelled like it had bathed in poop and pee for months! I had to place him on the chair. I started inspecting the cat. When i lifted his tail i saw that he had a mat of fur and poop the size of a golf ball covering his back side. The poor thing couldnt even go to the bathroom because it was completely covered. it was evident this cat had not been tended to in weeks even though the sales clerk stated that they are cleaned every two weeks. I demanded that he take it in the back and shave its back side because that was probably extremely painful for the cat. I left for two hrs and was so distraught at the state of the kitten i decided to purchase it just to get it out of there. Upon my return the owner was there and she approached us and asked us if we wanted the kitten (which they had now shaved and somewhat bathed but his poor tushie was bleeding from the hair pulling so hard) When i made an offer on the cat she turned me down and then after telling her what state the kitten was in when i was just in she decided to accept our offer. She said that she didnt want to sell us the cat if we were just going to go to the news! if your worried about people going to the news you should be taking care of your animals! The puppies smells horrid. some didnt have food or water, some had sores and had kennel cough. This place needs to be closed down. No one has cleaned in there in months and they treat their animals horribly. We are just praying this little guy isnt sick because he had been doing nothing but sneezing since we got him along with watery eyes and runny nose. The worst part is if i didnt go in there today and demand they take care of the cat he would have been like for a lot longer.
