The trouble with most used book stores is they dont know what they want to be. They just sell some of everything, and nothing thats that great. Not so with Kilgore. I know the owners of this place, and they know exactly who theyre selling books to: People like me. I love reading, I try to do it all the time, any chance I get. I read fiction, I read non-fiction, I watch what others are reading on Goodreads, I join book clubs at work, I like discussing my thoughts on books Ive read with my friends. But, I dont enjoy digging through dusty piles of old books to find that one signed first edition printing of... whatever. The guys at Kilgore _do_ love doing that, and they do it for me. They also find copies of every book I could want to read, and put em on the shelves at damn reasonable prices. Bottom line: When you walk into Kilgore, youll see something you want to read from the door. Not after scouring the shelves for half an hour. But youll immediately want to do that, too. :) PS - They stock underground comics and graphic novels too, the ones you can get everywhere, and the ones you cant get anywhere else in Denver. Seriously, just go there.

I originally started coming here because I could find gently used field guides for an extremely decent price but Ive found plenty of reasons to keep coming back. Ive always enjoyed comics that Ive read in the newspaper/online but Kilgore publishes their own comic books - some of which are done by local artists who are hilarious (Noah Van Sciver had me laughing audibly in the store). Besides the awesome book collection and totally original/hysterical comic books, the owner is my #1 reason for loving this store. A homeless gentleman came in and asked if he could have a book - Luke (the owner) did not hesitate to say yes and told him that he didnt need to bring the book back, just hand it off to a friend. So much awesome, support Kilgore.

Kilgores has a good, eclectic selection of books and theyre reasonably priced with favorable buying rates. But, on two occasions when I asked to donate the remainder of the books I brought to trade, I saw them on the shelves not long after for a nice sticker price. If youre bringing books to sell, and they ask you if youd like to donate the remaining books they wont buy from you, tell them youll donate them yourself if youre remotely interested in REALLY donating them. Since I cant trust the owners, I dont care to shop there anymore.

This place is so fun, and prices are affordable so you can actually, finally pick up all the books on your list. Ive mostly checked out their great fiction selection, but I know they also have everything from hiking guides to lots of nonfiction and even childrens books. Also some cool-looking rare collectors items. They also told me they have a trade program, where you can bring back books once youre done with them and get store credit. All in all, a wonderful addition to the neighborhood.

i visited kilgore on their opening day, and i heard several people make the comment above. because its a small space, the owners have been picky about making sure that everything in the store is worth the shelf space. they manage to cram in a great selection of fiction and nonfiction books as well as independent comics. i will definitely be returning frequently.

Wow! Amazing used bookstore in the Denver area. This place has high quality books, heavy on non fiction including art and history. I found some really hard to find volumes, and they even shipped them home for me. Knowledgeable service and an interesting selection. You must stop here!

One of my favorite bookstores in the metro area. It is so cozy and inviting with a great selection of books well broken up into sections. The staff was friendly and its right in the middle of everything, not that you can tell. You feel like youre at home only slightly more comfortable.

Used book stores should be an interaction between friends, this one definitely is. Prices are honest and not inflated. It has no parking, so go south off 13th to park in the residential areas , or if you live in the Capitol Hill area take a walk or ride a bike.

Nice little bookstore, went for comics and if you are too the selection is pretty small, and all of it is trade paperbacks. Still awesome if youre looking for some old books, or something kinda weird. The alien section looked interesting.

Small quaint bookstore but it is a treasure! You never know what you will find and they have great prices on their used books. They also do trade in but you will get more with credit over cash.

This local independent bookstore is an amazing find. They stock local publishers and the owner, John Kubler is both knowledgeable merchant and accomplished author.

Great place to browse, found a few graphic novels and kids books to buy. Probably not the place to go if you have something specific in mind.

The guy running the shop was super friendly. Wish there was a little bit better selection, but thats just how used bookstores run.

Small bookstores with good innards like this make going to Barnes and Noble feel like voting pro-Hitler.

Nice guy but he should take comics out of his name. Slim selection, steep prices, and horrible grades.
