Sadly, I am finding that jewelers who buy gold and precious gems are like used car salesman: theyll try to take you for all they can get. South Bay Gold is no exception. While its true that they pay 70% of gold value and they do top the price offered by their competitors when it comes to buying gold, they also shave weight off the item being sold and attempted to subtract 2 grams off the piece that I brought in. Because of their outstanding reviews, at first, I thought it might have been an honest mistake. Unfortunately, "honest" had nothing to do with it. Almost immediately after this experience, they flat-out lied to me about the value of a gem I have for sale, quoting me wholesale prices that were far below (by more than $1,000!) even what the slippery con artists in Downtown Los Angeles jewelery district had quoted me. Then, when I asked SBGs rep to show me proof of this underquoted value (the jewelers in L.A., at least, produced price sheets), the rep refused, citing trade secrets. I believe that little secret is called "deception." Therefore, my conclusion is this: Unless and until you can find an honest jeweler, South Bay Gold does pay more for gold than most others. But know the gram weight of your pieces and the gold value for their karat content before you bring them in, and stick to your knowledge. Dont let them cheat you because theyre already getting 30% more than what theyre paying you for. But when it comes to selling gems, you could probably do better selling it yourself on eBay, or by taking it elsewhere. Unfortunately, I dont know where that elsewhere is because deception and dishonesty seem to be part of the business. Some of the jewelers Ive encountered make politicians look honest. I count South Bay Gold among the worst. (P.S. Interestingly enough, I noticed that the owner himself, in reply to an earlier bad review, stated that SBG pays "75% of the current spot price." While on the premises, the rep told me that that number is 70%. So, theyre lying here too.)

Quickie: + Great selection of mens rings (what we went shopping for) + Awesome customer service + Recommended if you cant find what youre looking for in the big jewelry shops in the mall --- Parking: Private lot. The building is located attached to the Lindberg Nutrition. Entrance is on Hawthorne Blvd. and the lot is behind the place. Selection: After hitting all the major shops in the mall (Kays, Morgans, Kevin Jewelers, Macys, etc.), we found this place on Yelp. We were in search of a male engagement ring and werent finding what we needed. The places in the mall were also really over budget ($350+) and the selection was limited. This place was PERFECT. Not only did they have a great selection of rings of all different types (silver, charcoal, black, slate, etc.) but they were at a great price (paid $109 for a ring). If they dont have your size, you can put an order in and they said itll be ready within two days. We found a great ring and couldnt be happier. Service: Customer service was great. Very accommodating and not pushy in the slightest! Highly recommended.

Ive bought gold coins here and as a new buyer I found the staff friendly and knowledgable. Recently when a very old Rolex I had needed repair I decided to give them a try and I have to say they did a beautiful job, at a fair price. Its a 1963 Rolex that now looks and works like new. Loved thee customer service and how straightforward their business is. I walked in after being recommended by my friends. I was doubtful they would give me a good price as Ive had bad experiences in the past.. South Bay Gold, however, is a league all of their own. They truly run an honest business and Im a customer for life.

Do not sell your gold and coins here. Dishonest & Deceitful. I caught the owner Sam red-handed, shaving weight off of my gold. (I know Im a math wiz and could see the scale). Go to the jewelry district yourself to sell and get a fair price----BEWARE.
