We walked in to purchase 2 bikes. The selection was pretty good compared to other bike shops around and reasonably priced. The floor rep was extremely rude and short. When we asked questions he responded with a snide tone and seemed preoccupied (the store was empty). Found our 2 bikes and he literally walked away and never came back. No next steps, when do we pick them up (after upgrades)? info, nothing.... We ended up doing everything within the store ourselves until Pamela came by. She was great. Called back next day (hung up on the first time by same floor rep) to make sure our bikes were ready for pickup. Horrible communication and just seemed uninterested in helping. didnt really know if it was being handled or could be a week+. We cancelled our order. @Performance Bikes -- customer service is everything to the consumer. You need to instill that in your employees or you will keep losing business.

I spent a lot of time looking for a road bike, and thought while I might not get a better deal at local bike shops, I would definately get better service. After visiting a few local shops in the Mission, I found myself feeling like maybe I shouldnt even buy a bike. I figured Id try this place as a bit of a last resort, and I know Ill never go anywhere else. The manager, Ron is always there and helping me with my noob questions. Staff is generally knowledgable, but more than that take the time to talk to me about what Im trying to do and make sure Im asking the right questions. Ive gotten up to biking about 50 - 100 miles per week since getting the bike and theyve helped me every step of the way.

Be careful if they try to sell you the team performance card for $30 per year with your purchase. It can be a good deal if you are making a large purchase because you get 10% back toward your next purchase (which is usually greater than $30 if you are buying a bike). But the card will auto-renew a year later (and charge your credit card) if you do not call and specifically request that the auto-renew feature be turned off. I asked the sales guy that sold me my bike to make sure this feature was turned off, but later called to discover that it was still active. If you log into the online portal to view your account, there is no place to view or edit the auto-renew status... you have to call.

Bad experience. I walked in prepared to buy a bike. Being a total newbie, I asked questions and expected to receive answers that were more than 1-3 words. The associate seemed indifferent and I left the store without making a purchase as I wasnt able to extract the necessary information from the associate nor did I feel excited about building a multi-year relationship with this place as I get into biking. A week later I went to Mikes Bikes and had a great experience with an informative, engaged, and helpful staff. I found I bike that Im very happy with and feel well informed on bike security, maintenance, and specifications.

No bike shop - even here in SF with ALL those other bike shops - is perfect. But, I have to say Performance in SF has been stellar. Ron and Daryl, in particular, have been wonderful. I bought two bikes from them and take my other bikes in for service and parts. Been going for years, now. Sometimes their bike selection could be broader. Not enough higher-end hardware. The last bike I bought I spent over $2K on and would have gladly bought it from them. But, there is always a great selection of parts and accessories, and they are all truly enthusiasts.

I recently bought a bike from this store and the experience has been fantastic. Got a good deal on a bike, and that buyers membership (points back with every purchase) certainly made sense. All the employees there were knowledgeable, and in particular Dennis was super helpful and helped me decide on a bike as well as pick accessories and recommend gear (clothing, that is!). The store also organizes Saturday 9am bike rides - it really feels more like a small local shop than part of a chain. Definitely coming back here for my biking needs!

The reason you have to wait in line is because of the excellent customer service. If there is a line, then its obviously in demand. The other reviewers who rated it poorly obviously missed out. They dont pass you off just to get you out of the store.Great for initial purchase & maintenance. The staff is patient, knowledgeable and friendly, and genuinely cares about you as a customer. I will never go anywhere else. The product they put out is top of the line, without the top of the line pricetag.

I like this shop, Im on a tight budget- there are better "overall" bike shops in the City. Good selection decent prices, I feel comfortable shopping here. I love the anti hipster feel. I feel important when I shop here. The people that work here are good people they are helpful and honest, the mechanics are surprisingly good, especially the man with the dreadlocks. I highly recommend this shop to any normal average people who arent simply Weekend Warriors

This "big box" store is a mid-sized national chain. But they have a local feel, at least. Shopping here will save you some money, and if that is your primary concern, this might be the place to shop. The mechanics who work here are very good, and their rates are competitive with any other shop in town that Ive used. I would recommend them, even for complex things such as installing new bottom brackets or rebuilding wheels.

Bad experience. I have no knowledge on bikes so I stopped by with 2k to spend on a good bike so I can start biking. Lady at the counter referred me to the pros in the back of the store. When I asked for a recommendation on a bike for me he just pointed to the road bikes section and asked me to do my own research. Bad service. Taking my business sommehrsomewhere else.

The “Performance Bike” on Brannan is the best bike store I’d ever been to. The guys who are working there are very helpful and knowledgeable, deals and prices are awesome; my special thanks to Joe, Paul, Chris, and Ron. Especially to general Manager Ron, who put me on a bike, helped to find right size and to choose the right bike. Great job, thank you guys!

Good variety of bikes, but pretty pricey (mostly $400-$1000+). Staff were friendly, and really patient with me when I asked to take several test rides. I came back a couple months later to have it adjusted, and they were happy to help. I ended up paying a bit more than I would have liked, but had a good experience otherwise.

Just bought a road bike there. Staff was AWESOME! They were super patient and friendly, took the time to adjust my bike to fit me. All and all, I would definitely return in the future for all my bike needs. Love the fact that they are reasonably priced and have great customer service, will be back soon enough!

Performance has a lifetime guarantee on most products. Im visiting from Philly, and my performance brand backpack broke. I found performance in Berkley and they exchanged my backpack no-questions-asked. When a friend in SF needed some bike repairs, Performance was the first place I looked.
