This is what a hardware store is supposed to be - a neighborhood store you can go in and find almost anything you might need to fix that damn thing before the landlord gets here. They also have tools, paint, fuses, electrical parts, and telephone wiring. Do you need some plumbing thing to fix the bathtub drain in a house built in the 1940s? Do you need to fix the wall where the door knob went through or the screen you had to cut when you locked yourself out? Theyve got it, they can tell you how to do it or they can do it there. I defy you to go into Home Depot and ask the guy, "I need this thing, its like a spring, its about this big, and it holds the vent closed in the duct over the stove. Know what I mean?" When he wakes from his stupor the first words out of his mouth will be, "Have you heard about the sale were having on replacement window installation?" Yes, their prices are higher than Home Depot. Absolutely. They arent buying a few million 1" 1/4-20 stainless steel screws at a time. Theyre buying a few of a thousand different kinds of screw and one is the one you need. If all you need is some super glue to fix your favorite coffee mug or a few rubber bands to hold the cabinet doors closed, pick them up at the grocery store. Its probably cheaper and its far more convenient since youre already there, but if you need to replace that metal box you found behind the medicine cabinet with a blinking light and 5 hoses coming off it that somehow kept the toilet from overflowing, I think I saw one at the end of the aisle between the galvanized stanchion brackets and the two-to-three prong adapters.

A few months ago they moved half a block down the street, and I just about had a heart-attack when found myself an the old empty store-front. As others have written, they have a surprisingly large inventory considering the size of the store, and the they a great selection of fasteners in the back. Way better than Home Despot in fact. I love seeing a little mom-and-pop place still survive. pros: close, convenient, the owners are very knowledgeable, its a local business, excellent fastener selection cons: some items kinda pricey, limited hours, a couple of the employees are kinda clueless

It seems odd to select Excellent for all categories but thats how I feel. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. About 25% of the time I go there to get advice on some project. They cut window glass, make window screens, keys (theyve all worked for me), etc. Ocean Beach has a lot of older homes & beach cottages so HD is out if you want something from 1950. I went in there looking for an adapter to go from a 1955 plumbing fitting to modern style PVC. They had it! Ive been a believer ever since.

This is partly what is so nice about living in OB. This is like a small town hardware store where everyone that works there is happy and eager to help. The man checking me out today actually asked me what my plans were for the day. That made me feel really good. Its so easy for us to become invisible and its really nice to be treated kindly. They were all really sweet to my dog too.

I love this good old fashioned shop. The folks that work here are great people- honest and friendly as could be. Ocean Beach really needs a shop like this, and I love bypassing Home Depot when I need tools or supplies. They even sell bio-degradable cleaning products! They stock most things I need, I would highly recommend supporting this local business!

This is a nice, local shop to go get the supplies you need for your next project. The store is small and very well organized, and the people are very helpful. The only problem ive encountered, is most of the keys ive copied here havent worked :-/ they do always replace it for free if it doesnt work though.

You can usually find what you need here and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Its a little bit more expensive for some things, but its important to keep it local if you can. Its the perfect place to grab what you need to put a finishing touch on your project.

I always go here first. They dont have 100 of everything but the pretty much have everything. They know what they are doing and give great advice. Carl has made several screens for me including big sliding door screens and they are great.
