I run a business in Midtown that owns, as part of it, an office building. Until today, we have used Capitol Ace Hardware for all kinds of office building purchases. Recently, we purchased from Capitol Ace Hardware a combo padlock and chain to lock an entry gate on the weekends. We came to work this morning and the lock would not open. I called Capitol Ace Hardware and said, hey, you sold me a lock and chain, the lock broke, can I drop by to borrow a bolt cutter to cut the chain so I can open my business? After the person who took my call said, "yeah, that happens sometimes with those locks," and then after waiting on hold for several minutes, the owner came on the line and ultimately said "no." The last word from Capitol Ace Hardware was, "If I wanted a bolt cutter, I was welcome to come and purchase one." Even though the store provides us substantial convenience and is well-stocked and well-staffed, at the end of the day they were not willing to stand behind the products they sell and help out a customer and neighbor in need. They lost one today.

I purchased a silver Door Chain Guard ($4.85) from Ace store in South Lake Tahoe 3 days ago. I brought the item with the receipt to this store and asked if I can exchange it for the same item, but in gold color. I was told they will not do it and I have to go back to where I bought from! Nothing like this ever happened with any other national store chain. This indecent is good enough reason for me to never shop ACE, particularly at this location. UPDATE: Went to ACE Hardware on Del Paso Blvd. in Sacramento to see if I can exchange it there. They guy working there was nice and willing to help. But, but they do not carry this item in their own brand. How ridiculous!, ACE store does not carry ACE brand item! More determined to never shop at ACE.

All the staff know enough about hardware to at least lead you in the right direction. Most know even more! All very helpful and take their time with each customer. THIS is what a hardware store should be like! Lots more than tools and yard/garden implements. Ive never left wanting when I go to Capital Ace whether just a spray bottle, cleaning supplys, screening material, stove inserts, paint or mud. Ask if you cant find what you want, they have it! And enjoy the popcorn!

I like supporting this particular location because they really do bring that neighborhood feel to a hardware store. The staff are very helpful most of the time and theres a pretty big selection for what first appears to be a smaller store. If you live in the area, its certainly worth making this your first stop.

The owner cares enough about his customers to give great service with the products they have to offer, but they stand way out in front of most businesses today in that if they dont have they maintain a card file of other businesses that may have what you need. The way it used to be in the USA still is here.

Not sure who they cater to. Their banking type hrs dont suit DYI folks like myself and their inventory/prices dont suit contractors. As a DYI person, Friday night is key to acquiring supplies for a weekend project but they close too early to accomodate. Thus, I am forced to the less desirable big box chains.

Having been to many Ace Hardware stores in the area and throughout California, I found Capitol Ace Hardware to have the worst service anywhere! Usually Ace Hardware stands for good customer service, but this one definitely does not--uncaring, misinformation, and unapologetic.

These guys are very knowledgeable and eager to help. Sometimes they just point the way and other times walk you over to what you need. Rarely do I have to wait to get helped. The big plus is they give away free popcorn!

Great service and selection, however it should be open later on the weekend. Somehow its open later on weekdays. Doesnt make sense, theyve lost a bit of business from me because of the hours.

All the staff are friendly and knowledgable and they are very helpful when it comes to advice. They have a great selection of products for just about any project in the house or garden.

Their hours are ridiculous. I live two blocks from there but cant ever get anything because they close by 5 or 6pm every day, so anyone with a normal job is out of luck. Makes no sense.

Staff is either lazy or apathetic toward customer needs. Manager is no better. Store closes early every day so make sure you get there by 5.30 to be safe.
