I was never so taken back as I was the other day when I went to return an item to the E Street SPCA Thrift shop. I have shopped in this thriftshop for years, even when they were further down the street in a ratty hole. Now I guess they consider themselves upscale since their move?? The lovely cashier, Cindy, was more than happy to assist me with my exchange because I planned on purchasing additional items costing more than the item I was exchanging. And then walks in the contentious manager Eaton - I believe thats his name. He takes my return out of the bag. I tell him my story and show him the additional items I was purchasing. He gives me a screaming NO - he will not accept the exchange. After I tell him how much money I spend in this shop on a monthly basis, he backs down slightly and screams, "I will do this for you today, but I will NEVER DO THIS FOR YOU AGAIN!!" I was so embarassed and even Cindy looked at me cross-eyed in shock. He spoke to me with such intimidating and thretening tactics I could not believe it. SPCA Thrift is a community business and thrives on the community and our donations. Eaton needs to be relieved of his duties as a manager until he learns to treat customers with grace, dignity and understanding. Thank you.

Im a vintage audio guy. They have a large selection of LPs, priced $1, half what the GoodWill stores charge (whats up with $2 LPs, GW?). Occasionally score some good Jazz LPs here, but they dont put date stickers on them, so theyre never culled; as a result, you have to sift through the same Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond crap every time. Their prices on vintage hi-fi gear is ridiculous. Were talking $69 for junk like JVC black plastic crap receivers in unknown condition. Same stuff that GW charges $10-$20 for. If you are a classical music fan, they occasionally have LP box sets of some pretty good stuff in great condition, still just $1 for the set! Thats an excellent deal - GWs charge a lot more for box sets, even the Readers Digest sentimental junk that never gets sold. Its worth a monthly visit. The Salvation Army store just around the corner, OTOH, isnt worth the time - Ive never found a thing there. They have auctions every morning, I think anything worthwhile is gone before it ever hits the SA store.

I care about supporting the SPCA . I know if I shop here my money is going to at least two causes! Its not located in my town but its across the river from where I live in Yolo Co. I started donating my used and new items here. I shop here once a month. Each day of the week has a certain discount color label plus a senior discount day. I mostly buy from their large selection of ceramic and china dishes to use for my crafting. They carry vintage items, furniture , jewelry , clothing , collectables and lots of wall art pieces Prices are kinda high especially compared to the now closed down church thrift store I use to frequent in W. Sac. However they have 1/2 off days. You can get more info from the calendar on line The volunteers are great people. Be warned......Drop off donations are behind the thrift store in a very narrow alley. Be warned A car parked for donation drop off can trap you in or out room for only a single car in either direction.

I thrift store all the time and love to do so...and have purchased from this store several times...but in all honesty...they price their stuff way too high...I can easily go to other stores and find the same if not better quality merchandise for over half the price....I think the fun of shopping in thrift stores is to find that great treasure at a great price...and you rarely find it here...

Today I went with my sister for the first time and we loved everything about this store! I found a bunch of clothing that all ended being 50% off and the volunteers and staff were so kind. I have nothing but great things to say about this store. If youre in the area, go check them out -- they have a huge selection of clothing, jewelry, records, etc.

One of my favorite thrift haunts; been coming here for years. The money goes to a great cause, so I am not put off by their conversion to more of a "boutiquey" format and slightly higher pricing. You will find some real cool stuff here!

I agree with Diana -- you can not expect to return items at a thrift store. Lay-a-way is out of the question too.

The volunteers are pleasant, the wares arent half bad. The prices are a little bit all over the place though.
