Huge outdoor store for hunters, recreational shooters, archers, fishermen, hikers, boaters, and they have a large meat curing and bbq selection. The older gun counter staff are usually retired cops; keep that in mind before you approach them with questions about Californias blizzard of ever changing gun laws. Not a store for practical, tactical or competitive shooters. The ammo and reloading areas are well stocked (but pricey). The knife counter is like wise well stocked with the major manufacturers, but American made manufacturers are missing. There is an excellent fellow on site for cleaning up well-worn blades and a sharpening service. They have both a handgun range (albeit with caliber restrictions, call them to ask) and an indoor archery range. Both open at limited times. They sell fishing boats, pontoon boats, trailers, jet skis, quads, and there accessories. Like I said, this place is huge. The fishing department supports fresh and saltwater fishing. There is a dedicated area for fly fishing. The camping and hiking departments are ment for weekender and casual campers. Think boys and girls just starting out in a scouting program or families going car camping. You will be better served (and painfully overcharged) by going to REI if you are looking for expedition - level gear. Also, go to REI if youre looking for climbing gear or any thing bicycle related. BPS doesnt have any of that here. The hunting and archery departments are surprisingly well stocked. The staff, however, is wanting for meaningful experience. Which leads to the only downside at BPS. The company does well to educate the clerks, but that isnt a good substitute for experience. Southern California doesnt produce many talented outdoorsman and BPS doesnt pay nearly enough to recruit and retain knowledgeable staff. The few on hand are retirees wanting to help out, but even they grow frustrated and move on to more focused retailers like Turners or Cabellas. To the companys credit, they often host outdoor classes on site and you can take the firearms safety certification here.

OK....so first and for most, I just want to say I love going to Bass Pro. I have never had a negative experience at any store I have ever been to....until I went to the Rancho Cucamonga store. I went there to get my wife a bow. We knew what we wanted. I called ahead to make sure that they had the bow in stock, as we would be driving a few hours to get there, I was assured from the person I spoke to on the phone that there was several in stock. When we got there, our eyes were greeted by a vast number of women wearing "garments" if you want to call them that, that had no business wearing said clothes (I wish I could un-see what I saw). So we rushed up to the archery department as fast as possible to get away from the gothopotamuses so I could get the wifey into a bow. I quickly found the brand I was looking for....however....the type I was looking for wasnt there. Are you kidding me!? I just spent almost 2 hours in the car after being assured that there was multiple bows hanging up, and it isnt there?! I can bet that this store doesnt sell multiple bows of the same type like that a day. I would say selling 2 bows of the same type would be a stretch. Anyway, I wanted my wife to try a few others since we had made the trip. The employee didnt have the time to cut the safety cord, and dial back the poundage a little because it was clock out time for him, and were told to "stand by" for another employee. Keep in mind we had already been in the store for over an hour and a half at this point. We waited, for about 15 minutes, didnt wait any longer, wasnt waiting any longer. I had some other stuff in my hand too that I was planning on buying, but after being put on a back burner, I am not going to give you my money. I will not be going to this Bass Pro shop anytime soon again. I will just pay a little more money to the local archery store where customer service and satisfaction are outstanding, and I wont have to worry about carrying a small bottle of bleach in the truck to throw in my eyes when I see half naked fatties trouncing around.

Apparently there is no price match guarantee here. I went in today to purchase a Garmin Oregon 600 that is on sale with REI. I arrived with the mail advertisement from REI that is about half a mile away from bass pro shops. I received the Garmin unit from the first worker who said I just need to take it to customer service and show the ad from REI. No problem, I take it to customer service where the second worker tells me she has to call REI to make sure it is a price that is actually available from the physical store that is down the street and not a price that was meant for the REI internet store. No problem, REI confirmed it is a sale and the item is available for the price in the advertisement. (I did not doubt this as the ad arrived at my home a week earlier and has the physical store address on it). So this worker begins to fill out a white card with the Garmin units information and then calls for a manager. (Im assuming to lower the price on the register) the manager (Nicole Ybarra) then arrives and the worker tells her that she already confirmed it is on sale and the item is available in store at REI. The manager looks at the advertisement from REI and said ok. She then asked the worker if she looked it up in the computer and the worker says no. They both walk away and several minutes later the manager (Nicole Ybarra) comes back and tells me she cant price match it because it is below their cost. I attempted to argue but I could tell I was not going to convince her to change her mind. She tells me the price match policy is at the managers discretion. I asked for her card and a copy of the price match guarantee. Conveniently the computer is not working so I leave with just her card. If anyone is wondering why I did not go to REI in the first place was because I have several gift cards from bass pro shops I wanted to use. I did purchase the Garmin GPS unit from REI right after this.

Today was the second (and last) time I will ever enter any BPS. I already knew what I wanted, had called the day before to confirm the item was in stock. When I went upstairs to "Optical" since the item I wanted was a scope. I presented the note to the clerk/salesman and, though civil, he was unhelpful. He said, "go to the end of the gun counter," pointing to another part of the store. I walked over to the end of the gun counter where there were, indeed, rifle scopes. With nine men in green shirts roaming around behind the counter, I observed two helping customers. There was one "greenie" trying to sell a $2000 scope to a person no more that 20 years old. I stood there, waiting, for 20 minutes and this greenie never even looked at me. All the other customers were 20 feet away at the other end of the counter. After 20 minutes I walked to the center of the counter and observed a knot-headed greenie putting locking rods back into the gun racks. I asked him if he worked there and he said,"yes." I handed him the note and said, "All I want is this scope." He said, "Do you have a number?" "No." "You have to take a number. We only serve customers by number." "Ive been standing over there for over 20 minutes. I was sent there by you man in Optics. All I want is this item and Ill be gone." "You have to take a number." Since this is the second time I have been ignored and dismissed in this store, I said, "$crewU and your numbers." I then walked out of Bass Pro Shop for the last time. This company apparently is more concerned with "process" than with customer service.
