Ugh. I only shop here when I have to. What is good about this store? The produce is very good if too expensive. The store is very clean. However, there are so many things wrong with this store. Prices are too high. Lines are always too long. The slowest checker in the entire store is usually the guy on Express. The bread department is tiny. The Bakery is a shadow of its former self. The Deli ... OMG, do NOT be in a hurry if you go to the freakin deli. I swear, the folks that make those sandwiches are the slowest people Ive ever seen. You have been warned. PRO TIP: If you go in at lunchtime, grab something (anything) out of the cold cases. They have pre-made sandwiches. Downside is that those things have absolutely NO condiments on them, so youre on your own in that regard. They also actually have a sushi case with a real live "sushi chef," credentials unknown, during lunchtime. They stock the case with California Rolls and other basic sushi. I confess that I have tried some of these offerings. The prices are reasonable (for sushi) and the fare rates "not bad."

I used to do nearly all my grocery shopping at the Orinda Safeway, but will never go there again. I received a $100 gift card purchased from this store by my husband which did not work when I went to use it. I will skip the details, but basically when I took the card in to try to get a new one, I not only received no help but left the store in tears because the assistant manager was such a jerk to me. Kudos to the Safeway corporation for helping me resolve the matter and getting me a new card, but I was amazed I had to deal with the companys customer service and my local store was not only unhelpful but unsympathetic as well.

Ther were only 2 reviews when i wrote this and it seems nothing has change at Safeway Orinda. Really rude MANAGERS, staff is really unfriendly they will block the isles as they work and refuse to move after giving you a dirty look. The cashiers grunt at you instead of saying hello or thank you. The bagger picked up every single item looked at it as if he never has seen anything like it before. I made the mistake of getting a deli sandwich, 15 minutes later with nobody in line my food was ready, thanks to the manager for interupting the poor kid trying to do his job...

Its a Safeway and they seem to have everything you need from frozen foods, a decent meat counter and even Dragonfruit occasionally in the fruit section. Parking isnt bad. Bring your own bags. They always have a good sized backup when Ive been there so dont be in a rush. The checkers are friendly but the place is understaffed for people checking out. If you arent in a rush, no worries.

I love that safeway caries so many great items, but I feel as though I have wasted away my life waiting in their lines with checkers that do not care about the wait times for their customers. They have four express lines and two regular lines open during a busy time. There is no sense of urgency, none.

Frankly, i do not understand the three reviews with "rude" noted. Ive been shopping almost exclusively there for over 35 years, and I have yet to have a bad encounter! If you cant find something, help is always given. Checkers are polite and kind. Id check my OWN attitude if I were you.

The cashier this morning in Orinda, can do with a smile and speak politely, if she has an issue, she should not be put on the frontline. Mentioned to a manager. I try not to let 1 experience deter me from going back. Can do better.

Very clean. The staff is always very nice. Open 24 hours. Loses one star because it is quite a bit higher in prices than a lot of places I go, and their selection for special diets (IE Gluten or Dairy Free etc.) is very minimal.

Im standing in line 7 people deep looking at signs that say theyll open a new checkstand with 3 or more in line....3 checkstands are still closed...this is not unusual!
