If theres one art / design bookstore thatll fulfill my needs, it has to be Hennessey & Ingalls. Located at the heart of Santa Monica, this homey bookstore continues to impress artists with theyre exclusive and eye-opening collections. The first time i stepped in, I felt like a kid in a candy store; i was overwhelmed with excitement and found myself running around picking up books. However, I also found myself spending a full 6 hours at the store. So, if you plan on visiting this amazing bookstore be sure to BRING A WATCH! seriously, 6 hours there felt like 30 minutes. So whether your looking to be inspired, or want to check out some books on architecture, illustration, graphic design, fine art, books, or anything remotely related to art, youll find it here. Do i recommend it? Hell. Yes.

As with any used book store, you shouldnt come expecting to find something in particular both because of poor organization and because of limited selection but considering comic books almost always span multiple volumes, shopping at Book Off can be an especially frustrating experience.Im not a big fan of their marketing plan, where they put the first two volumes of a book series on sale in the $1 section and the rest in the $3 section. I have a very hard time telling a $1 book apart from a $3 book just based on their wear condition. They still get four stars for their reasonable pricing and quite diverse selection of magazines and non-fiction books, but I would stop by Book Japan on Western Ave.before buying anything here.

One of my favorite places to go in Santa Monica and one of the few vibrant architectural bookstores. It is easy to get lost in the various design sections, including regional speciality areas like California Architecture. The store is in a beautiful location just off the ocean and a couple of blocks from the promenade. Stout in San Francisco comes close to this store but has no where near the space of this store; Praire Avenue Architecture bookstore in Chicago is sadly no longer in business.

I have pass by this location a couple times but I never went in and shop.I recently went there to buy a book from an author which was going to be there.I went in and go the book that I wanted. The staff is very friendly, lots of places to have a seat and read a book that would let you travel to another dimension. will go back again.

Highly recommend this book store if youre a creative type. While there is a GREAT selection of art related books (how-to, critique, theory, etc.) there are some books more on the fringes of art like gardening, flowers, random quirky and interesting books. Go get a book and stop Facebooking!!!!

What the world needs is more bookstores, especially aisles filled with heavy volumes of design and architecture. This is an excellent place and essential when trying to locate older titles. Helpful staff. Sensibly organization. Wide selection. Just what you need.

This is a great specialty bookstore located in the Arts District in DTLA. They have a great selection of books specializing in Art, Architecture, and Photography and some are original print. They also have a small selection of kids books and greeting cards.

Best bookstore on the planet. Every time I go here I end up with at least a few books, and I always intend to stick to e-books but this place just has so many things I have to have. I love the selection, atmosphere, location. Book heaven for sure.

An entire bookstore devoted strictly to architecture, design, art, and fashion, amazing architecture selection, good design selection, wide range of older books in those categories not found elsewhere. One of my favorite bookstores, great find!
