DG Wills is a such a wonderful thing in a dying breed of non-chain places of literary purveyance. Dennis is kind and can chat you up warmly on the topic of anything book related, including the numerous famous literary figures (e.g. Derek Walcott and Allen Ginsberg!) that have to come to give readings at this old wooden structure. He is occasionally cranky but it only adds to the overwhelming ambiance emanating from the smell of old, stacked pulp, the tucked-away alcoves *made* of books, and the hidden bookcase he has. This a treasure in La Jolla, and I can only hope that he sticks around as far into the future as the mind may dare ponder.

My favorite bookstore in the state. Well curated. Historic. Next to my favorite coffee shop in the state. The owner of DG Wills is constantly there and always up for a bookish chat. The used literary books are in the back, behind a bookcase disguised as a door. Yes, really.
