It wasnt the store that turned us off, but the whiniest (and there are no close competitors) whiniest employee I have ever experienced. He was on the phone for 20 minutes screeching in this high pitched little voice about pants. About how his sibling got pants that were $150, and his parents wont just buy him pants. He was rude, and it became clear he was talking to his father. My wife and I browsed the shelves, transfixed by the volume and snide nature of this little brat. We winked and grinned behind shelves and held back laughter. Then came the kicker. Just before he hung up the phone he said (and I couldnt make this up) "OK Dad, well I love you. Happy birthday." You cant make that up. Happy birthday. You cant write comedy that perfectly buttoned; an audience would think it was canned and forced. True to life. Happy birthday. And people wonder why Southern California has a bad name. The books are good though.

I can not get enough of this quaint little bookstore i love it. On request they suggest fantastic books tuned to your age range and books you have already selected. when you ask them about a book its like they are a computer they know exactly what you are talking a about if you love books and you want to buy more at a good price this is your place. HELPFUL and WONDERFUL. I cant wait to go in for more books. I highly suggest it.

Book Tales is wonderful. You can always find best sellers in paper back or hard covers in stellar condition. The perfect place if you prefer owning texts versus borrowing from the library. If you are pursuing building a library, this is your place. Conveniently located in downtown Encinitas, Book Tales has your favorite authors at a fraction of the cost of that at Barnes and Nobles or Borders.

A great independent book store that has some mainstream titles and other books from smaller presses. The employees here are nice and love books, and the vibe here is very welcoming. A great place for Book Tales!

This store is WONDERFUL. Its small, privately owned my a man who loves books, the books are cheap, great selection... I could just go on and on. Im so glad I found this place.
