I love Rakestraw! Michael does an incredible job learning his customers names and making recommendations. Hi enthusiasm for books is contagious--he adores reading brief passages to customers to give them a feel for a book and can even quote passages from memory. Rakestraw is one of the things that keeps me in Danville. I would never want to live in a community that did not have an independent bookstore and I cant imagine a better one than Rakestraw! Any book they dont have on the shelf they can order and have it in the store often by the next day. Who needs Amazon? Support this bookstore!

I highly recommend Rakestraw Books in Danville. I am an out-of-state customer who relies on them as well as the local bookstores in my area. The owner, Michael Barnard, is one of the best and most resourceful booksellers I know. Hes gotten me anything Ive ever needed and has recommended books to me that I now cherish and pass on to others. His service and commitment is second to none in the industry. Rakestraw sponsors countless events throughout the year; this is more than a bookstore -- it is a community institution and a treasure.
