Almquist is a woodworkers candy store, they have everything. Everything! Name a species...yea, they have that. Purpleheart, bloodwood, rosewood, oak, maple, walnut, beech, mahogany, and on, and on. The staff is friendly and the price is right. Obviously, locals all know about this place, but if youre a woodworker visiting Humboldt County, plan to spend a little time and money here.

The best selection and prices I have seen anywhere. Also provide "value added services" such as cutting and planing to very precise dimensions, efficiently at very reasonable rates. Knowledgeable and friendly sales staff and dog friendly to boot. My Poodles love shopping (and getting treats) at Almquist.

The best/only place to get exotic lumber. Brace yourself or rather your pocket book that is...this place is super expensive$$$ But they have a great staff that really knows their stuff.

They dont seem very interested in helping select nice looking pieces of lumber. Seem like they are in a hurry to just cut the first piece they grab and get you out the door.
