-- Update 5/30/2017 -- After my original review, a manager at Dothan Carmax reached out to me with apologies for my experiance. He was super nice and did what he could do to remedy the situation. Because of this im changing my review from 3 stars to 4 stars, and when we begin truck shopping I will once again include Dothan Carmax at the top of my list. -- Original Review -- Bought a van at CarMax in Dothan in 2015. The buying experience was good, but dealing with some of the frontline people (the ones who talk to you when you first arrive) left a lot to be desired. Sold them a car a few weeks back. The experience was similar as above. The two individuals I dealt with (wish is could remember their names, they were both great) for the sale were great, but once again the frontline people were borderline rude and acted as if they didnt want to help anyone. I would have given them 4 stars, and I also considered giving them 2 for the next bit. We forgot to get the tag from the car, we realized this was our fault and we received very little help from CarMax. We even called the same day we sold it and were told they would look and for us to call back. When we called back no one knew anything about it and we were told to check back again the next day. The next day we stopped by and the were treated very disrespectfully. The guy pointed out it was our fault the tag was missing. (we knew this) He looked in one place and said it must still be on the car at auction, and sent us on our way. In the near term we will be truck shopping and this experience has moved CarMax Dothan from 1 one on our list as places to shop to possibly one of the last.

CarMax - as a corporation - has a great thing going. We actually sold a car to CarMax (of Columbus GA) about a year ago. We got $2000 more than we were expecting!!! AWESOME! I really like the fact the employees are salary. I have a total disdain for salesmen. All CarMax employees weve met, both in Columbus and here at Dothan, were helpful without being intrusive. They were friendly and offered us a bottle of water within minutes of arriving. HOWEVER... CarMax of Dothan appears to receive second rate cars. They are a small store, yes, but the quality of the cars we looked at were below that of other CarMaxs weve been to. We went several times in the past few weeks and we have were quite surprised by how many cars were dirty and smelt bad on the inside. We actually had a car transferred in from out of state. However, when it arrived, the condition was such that we didnt even want to sit in it, let alone purchase it. There was a bad smell in the car (a mix of cigarettes and perfume), pet hair, and stains on the seats. All of which could have been rectified if it had been through some sort of Quality Control. I would estimate maybe one, two max, man hours of work to get it into selling condition. And like I said, that car was not the only one. There were several cars on their lot in such condition. We decided to pass on CarMax and went to a dealer instead. Bummer - I really liked CarMax...

Ive used Carmax before in VA and went back to them even though it is a two hour drive one way from home because they had the best selection of the different cars I was looking at and trying to choose between. I met with Harrison, he showed me what they had and we went for several test drives. Since that was my first day, I wasnt ready to buy yet and they didnt have a CR-V that I wanted to look at. I went to a local dealer, did the test drive, and though they werent pushy, they werent listening to me that I wasnt ready to buy, I had stopped at two dealerships and both did the same thing and brought their managers over to overcome my objections. I just wasnt ready and nothing was going to change my mind. I wasnt going to buy on impulse. I hated both of them. It was so much more pleasant at Carmax. I decided on my car and Harrison kept a look out for me. Unfortunately, the one we found had a $400 transfer fee, but it was the right color, great shape, right price and mileage, so I guess I made out in the long run. He kept me apprised every step of the way on the transfer. Went out the next day, bought the car, sold my car to them for the right price and was done in a couple of hours. I did talk with other salespeople on several visits and they were all knowledgeable and nice. Ill never go to a dealer again. I highly recommend Carmax. No games, no pressure.

Disappointing and frustrating. Live in Florida, 100 miles from the Dothan Alabama dealership. Vehicle was transferred from the Atlanta CarMax to Dothan. Vehicle was damaged in transport and had to have body work done. / We were told that the title and tax documents would be sent to our local tax collector’s office, FEDEX next day, five days after purchase. It arrived in 14 days. / We provided, in writing, the address of the tax collector’s office near our home to mail the tax and title documents. Discovered through FEDEX tracking that documents were sent to an office across town. / Agent that filled out purchase and title documents at the dealership told us that since documents stated the vehicle would be titled to me OR my wife, only one signature was needed. Drove across town to register vehicle and was told that both signatures were required. Wife was not available and had to obtain Power of Attorney to complete the transaction. / When completing registration, I was told that the tax had not been properly reported and had to wait for the clerk to correct the taxes. The one pleasant experience at the Dothan facility was dealing with Chris in the service department. He was a helpful, knowledgeable professional.

Waited a long time to find just the right car for me. I had an Acura MDX shipped up to the Dothan store from southern Florida. The car was great and Tina helped me as much as she could when I went to test drive it and then buy it. After they changed the oil and cleaned up the car a bit (I waited) they handed me one set of keys and a single key for the door/ignition key. When I got home that day my husband explained to me that I only got KEY 2 and that there was supposed to be a KEY 1. These keys cost about $200. I called CarMax and asked why I only got Key 2. After being on hold so they could "ask" they told me I could go back and get one (I live over 2 1/2 hours from them) or I could go to an Acura dealer to get one and theyd pay me back. So, I spent another day driving over an hour to an Acura dealer, spent $248 on KEY 1, and wasted time and money to do this. I am still waiting for my reimbursement from CarMax. Ill be interested to see how long it takes. Obviously, if I had not asked for KEY 1 I would have never gotten one. I guess they were trying to save themselves $200. That was my only real problem with my experience with this CarMax.
