Ive been a customer here for over two years and spent hundreds. It was my go-to hardware store, even over the big ones, because they have most items and theyre typically very helpful. Today I went in for a couple things and to have some keys copied. What started out as small talk turned into me getting a condescending lecture from the owner after I stupidly answered a prying question. Several misogynistic and condescending comments later, I finally completed my purchase and left. It was the most awkward exchange Ive ever had as a customer, period. Unfortunately I wont be going back, and Im really disappointed that this is the case.

Rittenhouse Hardware has consistently (for years!) had the best customer service of any store I have been to in Philadelphia. I dont know what they do to find their employees, but every single one I have ever interacted with has been knowledgeable, helpful, and generally pleasant. And they get serious bonus points for knowing how to not be over-helpful, too. Also, in spite of the small size, theyve had pretty much everything Ive ever gone there to look for, and the prices are very reasonable for the prime location. The hours are quite generous, too. I would recommend this place to anyone with hardware needs.

Very bad customer serving attitude, went there today a little bit before their closing time and they were just rushing me out so they can close. Did kind of yelled at me and asked me what do you need, and I asked for their help to look for something that I need and they couldnt figure it out and would left me there waiting so they can serve other customers. And was trying to trick me to buy the wrong thing. Could have simply told me that they dont have the thing I need instead of giving me attitudes when they get frustrated that they cant find the thing I need. Very bad experience overall.

I came in becauae of a referral, even though the store was a pretty hefty walk over. I had a problem with a piece from a table I ordered online (a pre-drilled hole wasnt threaded). They took one look, identified the problem, fixed it and chatted with me the whole time while also copying some keys for me. Everyone was so pleasant and I walked out being glad that I made the trip. I also got a chance to watch them engage with their customers and make personalized reccommendations even if they were less profitable for the store. 100% coming back.

This is my favorite store in Philadelphia. Not hardware store--any store. The guys who work there are the friendliest, most knowledgeable people you could imagine. Their prices are comparable to or cheaper than what youll find at a big box store or online, plus theyve regularly steered me to a cheaper but better product when I explained what I needed. Rittenhouse Hardware is the perfect example of how to survive as an independent store in the Amazon Age.

The staff is a blast, plus you simply step in the store, tell them what you want, or the issue you are having and they will offer you a better solution or the thing you need to solve the problem. Used them for 2 decades, thank goodness they exist, rather than drive to a big box and be abused by parking lots, mean staff with awful attitudes, and endless isles of too many options -- this gets it done.

This is the best hardware store because of the prices, convenience and people. The guys who work here and the owner of the store are extremely helpful and genuine. You will never be talked down to when you discuss with them what you want to do and need. They will give you their time and experience generously and do their very best to help you everytime. Also, this is a dog friendly place.

I moved to the US and needed plenty of stuff for my new house. Ive been here several times and they are always nice and helpful. Even when not knowing MOST of the names of the things I need, the staff is patient and never look down to you. I always found what I needed. I would recommend it to anyone. It has never been so pleasant to go to a hardware store!

After hating having to go to Lees Hardware for years I found this place and love it. The staff is more than helpful and the space doesnt feel like a cramped hole in the wall. They have a great selection, and are happy to recommend other stores if they happen to no have what youre looking for. This is what a local hardware store is supposed to be.

People, the prices are ridiculous. $7 for painters tape?!?!? $14 for pint of paint?!?! It is good if you forgot something and need to pick up a paint brush or something but dont go here and get all your hardware needs. The prices are horribly over priced. I realize it is Rittenhouse, but you can save a whole bunch of money by going elsewhere.

These guys are awesome! I locked my keys in the back of a moving truck (I know, an idiot move) and went in this store to buy bolt cutters. They let me borrow theirs for FREE. I even tried to give them some cash for letting me use it and they wouldnt take it. I highly recommend this store and keep up the customer service guys! Thanks again.

Such good people, a true neighborhood hardware store that looks after its customers. Needed something small, well below the credit minimum, & I didnt have cash, just a card. They let me take it and just asked that I come back and settle up when I got a chance to go to an ATM. Good people.

Rittenhouse Hardware has everything you need! Super friendly & helpful guys! As a visitor to the big city of Philly I was super impressed! Have to say the prices were a bit lower than my small town hardware store back home! I will be back when I visit my niece who is a U Penn student!

Good selection, but look it up before you take their word for anything. I was actually convinced not to buy what I needed, and after looking up what already sounded like dubious logic, now Im just returning everything and never asking for their opinion again.

Everything is perfect. The easy walk from my home, studio, or office. The corner location. The welcoming storefront. Helpful service. Wooden floors. Not for those looking for blister packs of two screws.

Staff is very friendly and helpful, and things are reasonably priced. Plus its an easy walk to get there, as opposed to having to drive or take a bus to Home Depot or Lowes.

These guys are great. I own a small business nearby and they know me by name and help with everything I need. Im always surprised when they have something small and obscure.

I love having a neighborhood hardware store. So much better than the huge stores. Both times I was there I got great personalized service from Richie.
