A great traditional lumber and hardwood supply store, its like stepping back in time. Ive bought lumber and woodworking supplies from Capital City Lumber for a number of years and have nothing but praise for them. If youre looking for exotic hardwoods, they have a whole back building full of local and exotic woods, much larger and cheaper than the local wood worker specialty shops. Ive purchased black walnut from them on several occasions. I also have an older home with trim molding that is not something you can find at a big box store. This is where I go for any non-standard dimensioned wood or trim. They have just about any dimension wood type and size you could want. Lastly, they have dried treated lumber. This is great if you want to build something out of treated lumber and not have to wait 6 months for it to dry out before you can to paint it. If you do woodworking or any home building/repair, you owe it to yourself to walk through Capital City Lumber.

I recently bought a 5/4 thick cherry lumber for some doors. I only needed about 15 bd ft and they had 103 bd ft in inventory. I was only able to find one board of about 12 bd ft that was usuable. The board was supposedly surface planned two sides to a final thickness of 1". The surface on one side was very badly planned requiring me to remove about 1/32" of thickness. I then found out the variation of thickness across the length of the board was about 1/16". I had already cut up the board so I could not return it. I formally complained to Edward Nicholson at Capital Lumber regarding my experience. He said they had an issue with their wood supplier concerning a supply of wood back in October that was planed incorrectly. He said they had thought they found all of it and had it returned. He then sent me a gift card covering the purchase amount. As in any situation know what your buying and deal only with reputable dealers

As a general contractor, I have patronized Capitol City Lumber for years. They are a locally owned business founded in 1947. They stock a variety of lumber and many species of wood including some exotic species. They have a wide selection of moldings which is really helpful when trying to match older moldings. They are an excellent vendor for woodworkers and for those looking for supposedly discontinued products. If its a hard-to-find product, your best bet is Capitol City Lumber. If they dont stock the product, they can probably order it for you. The salespeople are very helpful. The lumber yard staff are sometimes a little slow in getting your order ready for you. They do allow you to pick your own lumber.

I have bought red & white oak, walnut, cherry, cypress and mahogany from CCL on several occasions. No hardwood is perfect. I have bought many board feet of the same hardwoods from Alabama Hardwoods. Still, no hardwood is perfect. I spend time any place I purchase hardwood from making sure I can find the straightest possible. It aint gonna happen every time. Some people will indeed find find something to complain about. I love woodworking. I am not going to allow a little bend or camber to keep me from my passion. Look and find the piece that is as straight as possible and take it. You have to look. Ive gone through a whole stack of wood until I found the diamond in the rough. Stop complaining.

I have mixed reviews of Capital City Lumber. The customer service in the lumber area is extremely poor. I was totally ignored by the employee who was asked to help me and after finding what I needed myself I asked for assistance in cutting the board. He indicated he was busy and I would need to go back to the sales desk for help. The employee had an extremely sour attitude and went out of his way to be non-helpful. I was happy in the way the sales desk handled the situation and took care of what I needed. Its unfortunate some employees do not realize who is the customer. I would hope management of a company such as this would deal with such poor service.

I needed to purchase a number of different hardwoods for a project I was working on. The staff was helpful and polite. Their prices were fair and their clearance prices were great. This is a traditional lumber yard so if you are not familiar with woodworking or how to pick lumber, or with wood in general, some research on your part would be helpful. Ideally you should know what youre looking for and come prepared with sizes and lengths needed. All-in-all, great staff.

I was surprised by their crazy selection of exotic hardwoods. Theyve got a clearance section on their website too which actually appears to be updated regularly, and by that I mean all the items listed as being on clearance were actually on clearance at the store. The deals in the clearance section can be pretty good too, I picked-up about 25 board-feet of Bloodwood (a crazy exotic hardwood about 2.5 times as hard as Oak) on closeout for a great bargain.

I had a great experience and would go back again before even thinking about Lowes or Home Depot. Me and my girlfriend were making a bed and only had some clue about what we were doing. We were helped in the lumber yard by Terrence and he was instrumental in our decision making. He was insightful, knowledgable, and patient as we went through stacks and stacks of lumber. Fairly priced and easy to navigate. 5 stars was an easy decision.

THIS IS A VERY DISHONEST BUSINESS!! Do not buy Windows from Capital City Lumber. They windows that were delivered where not the windows ordered and signed for. They admitted that they ordered the wrong ones but could only offer a 5% discount on a replacement order. REALLY! THEY ORDERED THE WRONG WINDOWS!!!!!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!

Well horrible customer service at best. The guy who answered the phone was rude, acted like it was wrong for me to call and ask for pricing. Then when I confirmed that a 4x6x12 was $80! I said "oh ok, thanks anyway" he hung up. And I was nice to him throughout the conversation even though he was an assholes.

I have always had a good experience shopping for lumber here, everyone from the yard sales clerks to the front desk have been helpful and friendly. Their seasonal sales are pretty good also, all around they are a nice place to do business.

Great hardwood prices especially when on sale. I like to go often but buy only when I find something special. Wood is grown not made so you have to wait for something amazing to show up.

Great people and really high, high quality stuff. The guys will help you load your truck in 100 degree heat -- and even jump your truck when the battery cant handle the temps :)
