We all know eggs and milk are placed in the back corners of grocery stores, but Metro Mart really out foxed them all, they put eggs and milk on the 2nd floor! Wow- how convenient! But wait- theres more! Lets not stop there- lets split produce from the groceries, because everyone has secretly been dying to take their grocery carts on elevators or haul their goods up/down stairs- wheeeee! All traffic patterns are FUBAR; foot and vehicle. If driving, be amazed that any parking lot could be worse than the nearby Walgreens. Took 15 minutes and several laps to find a space the other day at 4:00 pm, about the same to get out of the structure. Add 30 minutes to your shopping chore just to be safe. More convenience! Walking? First you can play "Find the Door", then you can weave your way through faux branded "shops" all the while inhaling the stink identical to the mall food court. Starbucks is the McDonalds of coffee, yet this is the best they could do? What really boggles the mind is that big projects like this usually have quite a few professionals overseeing the plans. People with experience weigh in, adjust, change, improve, compromise when needed, etc, etc.. They use "big data", survey customers, look at whats working in other similar markets. All that information and brain power has fueled an investment in an overall crappy experience. Sure- there are some nice items, nothing that cant be obtained elsewhere. People were friendly, just as they are at Outpost, Sendiks, Whole Foods... The bottom line is that the gamble of trying to make something new was made at the cost of over-complicating the very basic human need to simply go out and get groceries.

Ive been shopping at Metro since it opened. Tried to be patient as its a new store but the cashiers/baggers are TERRIBLE. Did these people have no training? I cant tell you how many times theyve stopped ringing up items or bagging for small talk with the other workers. Typically 3-5 open registers upstairs theres usually only 1 person bagging. One busy Saturday there were two workers staring at the lines as they talked about their weekend. They begrudgingly went back to work when I asked if there was someone to help the cashier. Another week I was told I wasnt supposed to help bag, so I waited as she rung up and bagged over $200 worth of groceries. And today was quite possibly the last time I shop at Metro. Full cart of groceries. I made a point to organize the food on the belt for the bagger. And maybe if I hadnt have done that it wouldnt have been so bad that she proceeded to put my cereal and granola bars in the only insulated bag (with the bacon, of course), dairy went with spices, and literally from the bottom up my bag of produce consisted of a jar of peanut butter, sliced meats and cheese, root vegetables, then lettuce and bell peppers with a cauliflower on top (smashed lettuce, yum). The kicker? Took at least 10 minutes because she kept stopping to joke around with the other workers. When she did go back to work I dont think she looked once at what she was doing. Ive never had this type of experience at Whole Foods. Definitely worth paying a little extra for timely service.

Update: lowered a star- the quality of produce has significantly declined. Bad blueberries, bad strawberries, bad apples. Very disappointed in the lack of quality control. --- The store is awesome and the non-grocery elements (food, bar, starbucks, etc) make it a worthg destination). Lets talk about the parking lot. It is a real life version of an M.C Escher painting. Im pretty sure a British person who has never driven a car designed this lot. Its all left-turns... all the way up...all the way down. And hey just call the parking levels 1a, 1b, 2a and 2b. Park on the third floor? Congratulations youll walk right into the second floor! Park on the Second floor? You are in limbo (or maybe pergutory), take the stairs or elevator somewhere else. You are looking at a wall. Oh and the two entrances to the parking lot? Same street just 40 feet apart. Oh and who needs stop signs or lights? Turning left onto Oakland from Olive. Nope, you arent... you just arent.. stop trying... just turn right go up three blocks, turn right again, make a u-turn, turn left back onto Oakland and move on- like everyone else. This is your world now. Left hand turns are your curse. If we were in the UK everything would be great- we arent and it isnt.

We had high hopes for this store, having lost a large supermarket in walking distance of our home in Shorewood. Alas, we are disappointed. 1. The store layout is awful. Theres no clear entrance for pedestrians, and for people approaching from the south via car, the entrance to the parking structure is not evident. 2. Too much effort on the visual execution of the concept, and no effort on the substance. The same mediocre bakery goods, but branded as "Badger Bakery." Same PicknSave deli and meat market products. We wanted products from the meat counter that werent on the shelf (ham hocks), but walked away empty-handed. The clerk didnt even know what we were looking for. 3. Same terrible quality produce weve come to expect from Roundys. 4. Possibly the worst: the produce and grocery departments are on different floors, accessible by stairs and elevator. Theres no clear traffic flow for people traversing floors via elevator. Where are the groceries? Why do people need to shop for groceries drinking beer or wine? This store makes no sense. We wont be back, and will not patronize the Roundys/Kroger stores in the Milwaukee area.

Lipstick on a pig. It looks very nice, but looks arent everything. The produce section is very poor. From 20 feet away it looks nice, then you get up close and realize the majority of the department is rotten. Bought bread today and got it home to find it was moldy. Pickles were squishy from mishandling. Cheese dept is big but stocked with nothing interesting. The cheese folks also make the cardinal sin of pre-cutting and wrapping up portions of cheese. You do not cut cheese until you are ready to eat it. Sushi bar! Not. Ive seen better sushi in premade freezer sections. I could go on but there is no point. It is a Krogers with lipstick and higher prices. Save yourself the aggrevation and go to Sendiks down the street. They have real butchery and cheese mongery AND a huge easy to use parking garage. Besides your money spent there will stay in the region versus going to some huge multinational company.

I went mid morning during the week. Stuck in the parking garage. You not only have to wait behind the cars ahead, but every one backing out as well. I felt like I was shopping at the ikea of grocery stores. Great if you have a lot of time and are not on a mission to get grocery shopping done. Then once my cart was loaded with groceries I found out I had to get on an elevator to get to dairy/froz/dry goods. The process was tedious for me. Not for people who just want to get their shopping done. I cant imagine the logic behind the parking and layout. Whole Foods has a much better parking experience. Sendiks new lot is it is still much better than this. I would go back when out for a walk on a weekend to grab food at the stations inside, but probably not to grocery shop.
