Seeing the poor reviews on this book store, I thought, well people are often impatient and critical, so I decided to give them a try because they had the best price for the book I needed. I ordered from another book store at the same time for a different text that was needed. The book I ordered from the other book store arrived at my door step in 1 week. The book I ordered from Downtown Books, to this day is still not here. Its been three weeks. I have emailed and called and I get no response. A simple email would be the least considerate option to deal with an unhappy customer, but I cant even get that. They have $100.00 of my money and I have no book. Poor service, dishonest, dissappointing, no appreciation of customers. The only reason I gave one star is because I couldnt post this unless I offered some type of rating. My advice to any book buyer. Do not buy from this store unless they change management and under go a complete restructuring.

An admittedly impressive collection of books, as well as the charm of a second hand book store run seemingly with a well-meaning ma & pa attitude, are heavily circumvented by the unfriendly management and unreasonable prices on most items. Most of the books are third or fourth hand by the time they reach the shelves, and at that point most books that one could acquire for a number of cents on Amazon turn into a number of dollars at this store. Whether this is merely the nature of used book stores or the nature of hateful old men that run them means little. Most of the workers on hand are in no hurry to assist the search through this complete maze of a store, but are in plenty of a hurry to sell you twenty books and see you out the door as quickly as you came in. Seriously consider just buying used from Amazon and save yourself the trip, as well as the money and the heavily probable hard feelings between you and the manager.

What a waste. Normally I wouldnt bother with a negative review, but this was a great store before they moved and now it is a complete waste of time. Where to even start? The new store has maybe 25% of the books in the old store, but the new store is nicer. I was looking for some sci-fi, fantasy or horror books and it was like they took the collection of books from the old store, picked out all the crap they couldnt sell and put it in the new store. Icing on the cake was the staff who walked away right in the middle of asking where the sections were. My recommendation: avoid.

I just called Downtown Books to see if they had a book in stock, the guy was incredibly rude! He gave me lip about how the book was too "new" to be on their shelves, he never made an attempt to find it.This is the second time I have made an attempt to inquire about a book without success! The second time I have encountered this guy. Unfortunately, the girl who worked the front desk has left and the owner(s) does not exist; therefore, my patronage is gone as well!

Huge store, Awesome collection of books, rows and rows, total dream land if you like to read. Staff has always been helpful and friendly, always helps me find books. Also there is a pair of really cute cats that wander around:) Never tried selling books there, but recommend if you are looking to buy, be warned youll spend hours there.

I bring 50 bucks cash with me every time to limit my spending. If I brought my debit card id spend 500 every time. It doesnt end either. I got lost, like really got lost in their. I looked up and didnt know where I was and my sense of direction was completely gone. the only thing i could see were more books. I was very scared.

Stopped in to find a specific book, after a bit of suggestion, the sales clerk found the book I was looking for and it was cheaper than anywhere I found on the internet! Additionally they had a great selection of kids books so I was able to pick out a couple cheap books with my son also!

This is the best book store that my wife and i have ever been to. The staff are extremely helpful. If you are going to go, make sure you leave your day open, and make sure you go upstairs. Also, the prices are very reasonable, and their books are in good to very good shape.

Great place to get lost for an hour and clear your mind. The selection is not the same as the previous place, youll never find any hidden gems in this new smaller location....but you can still find 1 or 2 unique things if you look hard enough.

One of the worst experiences ever in a store. Do not sell your books to theses scam artists. They are ripping people off on the daily. Run Run Run. Try one of the many other used bookstores in the city!!!!!

Books are generally in good shape and well-organized; a decent, if not huge, used-book store. That said, allergics beware: the whole shop, particularly the back, reeks of cat piss.
