Since my first experience with Downer Wine & spirits, Ive had the chance to visit on a couple other occasions and have found the proprietor Steve to be a solid bet for a good conversation and a fair price. On a side note, I stopped into a Total Wine recently and the difference in customer service hit me like a ton of bricks. All in all, I enjoy my time at Downer Wine and spirit and expect this to continue.

The owners and staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. The wine buyer is truly an expert and always happy to take the time to listen and offer advice. The wine selection is extremely thoughtful and wide-ranging, as are the liquor and beer selections. Take the time to join the Wine Club, which offers opportunities to earn and convert points as well as regular updates on new arrivals and good buys.

Where to start? Downer Avenue Wine and Spirits is a hidden gem in Milwaukee. They have great selection and great prices. Moreover, I have asked for suggestions on many occasions and they have been spot on every time. They really know their stuff even when compared to big wine growing regions like Santa Barbara and Northern California.

For a smaller store it has a great selection with a knowledgeable staff. The beer selection changes frequently, so if you find something you like, buy a couple because it might not be there the next time! Join the beer club to find out what new beer is coming to the store each week.

Great staff and selection. They have a nice spread of stuff without things getting too expensive. They even have Augustiner Edelstoff (really good German beer), which is super hard to find.
