Let me begin by saying that I have tried pretty much every place that offers desserts in or near Carytown, and this place definitely hit home with me. The sweet potato bun cake is one of the most amazing things Ive ever had- it was soaked in some kind of syrup so that the cake retained moisture and a soft but not mushy texture. The lemon meringue pie... I cant say enough about it. The filling is tangy and sweet and the crust was a flaky, toffee-ed masterpiece. I ate both pastries... which says a lot, since I really try to take care of my health and neither of the desserts fell under that category. Definitely worth every calorie though. :) The reason I deduct a star is because of the attitude of the staff... quite unfriendly and demeaning. :( It was pretty early in the morning and not too busy either, so I dont see any excuse for the rudeness- but the desserts are definitely something I would return for.

Not being one to enjoy chain coffee shops, Crossroads is definitely the place for me. They have an excellent selection of coffee and espresso drinks, including flavors not seen at other coffee places. They also have plenty of choices for delicious food, even vegetarian and vegan options. The people working were all incredibly friendly and even gave me some advice about the area (Im new to Virginia). Ive been to both the Forest Hill and Morris St. locations and found the latter to be filled mostly with college students. The Forest Hill location seemed to be more laid back and less crowded (but I did visit in the morning). Overall, if you want great coffee or espresso (with or without a wonderful breakfast or lunch) from a non-chain coffee shop, you will find it at Crossroads. I will definitely be returning.

Just wanted a breakfast snack and a couple coffees... I have to agree with what others have said, you have to be a regular or at least fit the image that they prefer to cater to. They took their time with others and rushed with me and lost that smile from moments before. They were out of practically everything I asked for... Settled on a fresh fruit oatmeal which was quite good if you love fruit and do not mind if they match across the flavor spectrum... Also the coffee was good however my wife could not drink her chai... She said it was the driest tasting chai shes ever had. Nothing against the unique atmosphere and Im sure the bands and the other fun stuff is great too... Will not be my first stop in the morning again.

Very good service. I love the atmesphere as well. Great place for anyone to hang out but 20s 30s and 40s definitely. I have not eaten here but they do have food and baked goods. They also serve beer. As a self proclaimed coffee connoisseur, they are not my favorite. Coffee is over priced for what you are getting. If it was a little better quality and made by the cup...pour over..that would justify the hefty price tag. Its not bad coffee but taste wise on par with higher end convenience store brew. Over all its an awesome part of my neighborhood.

I love this place, Ill never go there again as getting coffee in the morning is painfully slow and the food in the evening is horrible. But the greatest thing this place offers is that it keeps all the extra special people in the area concentrated in one location so that other bars are free of them. So if you are 40ish, ride a bike, were a dave matthews fan and believe that you are one of the greatest residents to ever grace the Forest Hill Park area, then this is the spot for you, no need to go anywhere else, seriously.

This used to be my home away from home. Unfortunately, its changing so much. Specially in the evening. My last straw was asking for decaf , iced, since its 90 degree weather out, and I was told they couldnt do it. Im so sorry to see this awesome place change, but apparently this is not the spot for my family and I and our friends. The coffee shop that was my favorite for the past three years, they said NO THEY DONT DO DECAF. Its a COFFEE shop!

Each of their locations offers a different, delightful experiences - be sure to visit both. We love the coffee, the baked goods and the sandwiches. Some nights you get a free acoustic concert from local musicians. But best of all, they have hard apple cider - the original American Drink & the goal of Johnny Appleseed. Crossroads Cafe in either location is a FAR better experience than stopping into your local corporate coffee shop.

Great coffee, but if youre not a local and its your first time here, its a little confusing where to order, where to stand while youre waiting, how youre going to get to the milk bar right next to the entrance in a cramped, crowded place. Interesting, eclectic interior with outdoor covered seating, if you dont mind sitting fifty feet from a busy street. Very popular on the Southside. Right across from Forest Hill Park.

A different sort of coffee drinking experience in the same way that all the best coffee shops are different. Walls covered with eccentric/fun adds, memorabilia, ect. A staff who looks consistently vegan, and every delicious and fresh coffee option. What does make this coffee shop different than all others is the wide selection of craft beer. A great stop for a night shift employee trying to ease of the work-night.

I went to the shop on Forest Hill, and it was great. Friendly staff, great coffee (and 1 free refill which was perfect), and the food was awesome. I got a Mediterranean wrap, and finding good, filling, non-greasy food of this quality is just what a place like this needs. Im from Chicago and we dont have places like this, so all you RVA people, support your local coffee shop!

Ok. I LOVE this place. Random little "coffee" shop that also serves baked goods, wine, and beer. In fact they have a draft and bottled beer selection that is insanely large for how small of an interior space they actually have. Sure, you could dine it, but Id recommend taking your beverage and pastry outside and enjoy the breeze during the spring/summer months.

This is a great local business with some awesome food choices and great service. It appeals highly to the hipster crowd, but they treat you great no matter who you are. This place is kid and dog friendly, and has a great selection of craft beers and ice cream. They also have a growler if you want to take some beer that you like home.

Crossroads has an excellent tea selection. Ordered an oatmeal & peppermint ginseng tea to go. My oatmeal (w/blackberries & strawberries) was ready extremely quickly & the tea was ready not long thereafter. The staff was fast & friendly they cleared a long line seemingly instantly with smiles all around the whole time.

Good food, coffee, and beer in a great location convenient to Forest Hill Park and the surrounding neighborhoods. Nice indoor and outdoor seating areas including some comfy couches. Friendly staff & customers with a sense of camaraderie. Parking can be tight, so bike or walk if you can.

Espresso oreo is the best ice cream Ive ever had, dont order small milkshakes its like 495 while large is 535ish, the small cup is tinnier then McDonalds child cups. Parking is horrible when its busy and if a live band is performing write down your order
