The new paid parking system is complicated and confusing. More importantly, it discourages costumers who may choose to shop or eat lunch/dinner at RTC on the weekdays. If they wanted to stop commuters in 2020 and discourage long term parking, then the first few hours of parking should be free like similar systems in the area or their should be gates that only allow employee entry in the morning. This way the average customer is not left feeling nickeled and dime just to visit on a weekday. Also beware, street parking and garage parking are handled differently. Street parking is only free on Sundays and cost an extra $1 (also 2 hour limit). There is NO free parking on Friday nights anywhere now. I can only imagine RTC will be like Rockville, MD where a significant percentage of their businesses are leaving as their lease expires because of the implementation of paid parking. Already, the Spectrum (Best Buy/Container Store) parking lot next door is being used to avoid the paid parking and the lot is full now from 8am to 9pm. I imagine that similar overflow is affecting the Reston Hospital and Library. Overall the new paid parking implementation is hurting the area for all Reston residence and I imagine all Reston businesses.

Its the Town-center. The hub of one of the first planned cities in America. Its got a lot going for it since its recent larger expansion. More restaurants, more shops, more parking. About that parking, though. The park RTC app is one of the most infuriating money grabs ever. If the reason for implementing paid parking is to stop Metro Riders from using it to park their car for the day while they go to work, the single hour of free parking they do generously give puts the lie to the idea that paid parking was forced upon them in order to stop metro parking. If youve ever been to the DC metro area, you know full well you are not getting on the silver line metro at its furthest stop with surety its even going to make it to the next stop without a derailment or mystery smoke filling the tunnels, much less get somewhere and back to your car in an hour. Great place. Fix your asinine parking scheme and youll regain what was once the nearly daily patronage of Reston residents.

I use to love going to Reston Town Center for dinner/drinks/movies. Or even a nice dinner then a stroll around. But that has all changed. I understand the need for paid parking, but the system that was put in place is overly complicated. What happen to the days of take a card, parking, put card in and leave? At RTC you can get validated at some shops, but only if you park in the proper garage for that business. Example want to eat at bartaco, well they will only validate in the red garage. Want to catch a movie after? Well now you need to move your car to blue or green as those at the garages that Bowtie will validate for. Also you want to pop over and grab a sandwich at Potbelly or a drink at Starbucks? Well that will cost you an additional $2 if you park in the garage or $3 to park on the street. The first hour or so should be free. Over all not worth it. There are plenty of other free parking options in the area.

As a long time patron of Reston Town Center, I refuse to return because of the absolutely ridiculous paid parking system. Greedy corporate scum, Boston Properties, implemented the system because they feared "commuters". Yeah right! Tysons Corner doesnt seem to have a problem and theyre much closer to the city. If commuters were such a concern then they would at least offer free two hour parking. Thats enough time to take care of most visits to RTC. Not to mention the fact that their "revolutionary" parking system is the most invasive I have ever seen. It takes photos of your plate and requires you to share your plate number and credit card information. Also accesses your photos and location. This is such a joke! I feel bad for the retailers, but I will be taking my business to Tysons Corner Center from now on.

New parking system is TERRIBLE. Very difficult and validation from businesses are to assigned garages only! Did dinner and a movie with friends. We all agreed that the system is very awkward. One person used the app, one used the credit card kiosk and one used the cash only kiosk. They are all bad. First of all, the parking asks for prepayment. What kind of system has prepayment with validation?!? The poor bud who paid cash never got any money back. I did the credit card kiosk and realized at the restaurant and theater that I didnt park in the "right" garage. If they are going to do validation they should make it clear which business the garage is for Sure, its only $5 but waiting 5-10mins for both checking in and out of parking is ridiculous and bad.

Nice place, but the parking is any exploitive scheme to make money. These people have no concept of morals or the income inequality that is breaking our nation apart. They are participating in a scheme of social stratification... what about equal access to our town center? You cant just charge so much for parking so that only certain people are allowed in... that is not in the spirit of our country. We are all members of the reston community, and we all deserve the right to collectively gather in a place to share ideas and community life. Boston properties are destroying this ideal and way of life that people in reston have enjoyed for decades. What will happen to the fabric of our community?

RTC instituted paid parking recently (most expensive rates In the region). They hired dozens of aggressive people to patrol the area by foot and by golf cart in search of vehicles that have not started a parking session. If they find a car that hasnt paid, they will attach a device to your windshield that will make it impossible to see. You cannot park on the street to run into a store to pick up food without paying the full $3 hourly rate (even if you park for 2 minutes). The vibe of RTC is completely dead; nobody goes there anymore due to ridiculous parking policies and their aggressive enforcers. Town Center offers nothing that you cant find within a few miles, so drive right by it.

It used to be okay. But then the owners got greedy and decided to charge for parking. When parking was free it was an okay place to go. But there are plenty of other overpriced restaurants and chain stores to shop at where you dont have to pay for the privelege. I wouldnt have minded the pay parking as much if RTC hadnt lied about their reasons for doing so. They used the excuse of the metro station that isnt even built yet, claiming the commuters who dont yet exist were filling the free lots and that they are actually helping customers by gouging them on parking. Somehow they had to convert all the street parking to paid too even though those spaces were 30 min to 2 hours.

This is one of the best town centers in the DMV area imo. They have a lot of various activities (ice skating, ice cream days, concerts, festivals, group workouts outside, etc). Theres also a great selection of stores and restaurants that make this area lively anytime of the year. The only bad thing is that now paid parking is required Monday - Friday. This decision was most likely fueled by the fact that many commuters would park for free at the town center and then take the bus or go to the nearby metro station. Hopefully RTC can come up with a better way to manage the parking situation as this is already negatively impacting businesses in the town center.
