The new play area they just opened up is AWFUL! I was so excited to have an indoor play area close to home since its colder now but whomever they hired to design it did NOT think it through and was more focused on having their companys name on everything and the "theme" than making an area easy for parents to allow children to go play without having to be hovering over them. The area appears a lot smaller, the area that has a slide is covered where parents cant see what their toddler is doing inside the covered truck....therefore you have to be hovering and cant sit down to relax. There is this other area that has colorful circles where kids are trying to slide down but parents cant allow them for fear of hitting another kid where at the bottom is this round circle thing that other kids sit in. Plus they have a "cold" knob that has NO purpose at all. Only 1-2 kids can sit on it...its super unsafe to crawl on again without having to hover as a parent. THey needed to take a page from the play area at dulles town center mall where there are slides, its safe for kids to crawl up things without parents having to worry about hitting another kid or falling and hurting themselves. SERIOUSLY>>>>redo! You FAILED!

This mall keeps getting better and is very convenient. Ten years ago it was kind of a dump and showing its age. However, as the population and income level in the surrounding area has grown so has the quality of this mall. It is 10X more convenient than Tysons Corner which I will never go to because of the traffic. Fair Oaks has plenty of parking, all the major stores including *Macys, Sears, Lord & Taylor, etc. It also has most of the smaller stores you would expect to find in most other malls. It has a large Starbucks right in the middle of the mall next to an Apple Store. It also has a mega Cheesecake Factory. One downside is although they have a large number of restaurants most of them are sit down style and scattered throughout the mall. It would be nice if they had a centralized fast food court. Another thing that would improve Fair Oaks would be to get rid of one of the Macys and the JC Penney and bring in two new anchors like Nordstrom or Nieman Marcus. JC Penney is such a dead brand and the store is lame. (There are two Macys because one was a Hechts which Macys bought out and they were locked into a long term lease. Once the lease is up they will close one of them.)

Right off the bat let me just say that this mall has been in Fairfax for as long as I can remember. It is practically a living member of the community as everyone knows, everyone goes or has gone to it, everyone has a special memory in it and personally I will probably always go to it. That being said and put out there, I have to say that there really isnt anything special about this mall. It is the same as almost every other mall you can think of. It has a lot of clothe stores, and not a lot of the top brands that a hardcore shopper like me would look for. More than once Ive shopped and stepped on sticky stuff on the floor which someone failed to clean. Like I said, its what you would expect of any normal mall. At the end of the day it has a lot of what you need, not a lot of what you want.

Ive been shopping here my entire life. Im 26 now and would still choose Fair Oaks over Tysons any day. Tysons is for rich tools who spend too much money, in my opinion. They have a two level Forever 21, one of my favorite shops, a Hot Topic which Tysons is lacking, and an overall better energy than Tysons. Its usually far less crowded than Tysons, which is great because you dont have to shove your way through idiots on their cell phones who block an entire walkway. Of course, there will always be those people, but its much easier to get by them because there arent as many. It has a great selection of food and restaurants, such as Cheesecake Factory and a Brazilian Steakhouse, and your normal fast food chains like Auntie Annes, Cinnabon and Elevation Burger.

By far one of the best malls in the area for a quick shopping trip. They have H&M which always drives me to come here. There is never long waits here like at other malls in the dc area. The main stores are the Macys, Sears, Abercrombie, AVEDA, shoe stores like Aldo, American Eagle and a few others. Basically this is a great mall for teens. Its very safe and always tons of pre teen girls going into the Forever 21. I normally I go to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch when I am here, there is always a wait there. There is a pub and a Brazilian steak house at the mall as well. Also the best part of this mall. The DMV! This DMV is never busy and is the most efficient and nicest DMV in the Nova area, to my knowledge.

Stores are upscale enough, food options are diverse enough, a DMV, and the top 4 mobile service providers (all corporate stores) located inside the mall. The circle that surrounds the mall has several banking options for business like Wells Fargo/BOA and lodging choices for resting like the Marriott. Its a self contained ecosystem and a great example of a "one stop shop" location. I grew up between Potomac Mills and the mall in Fredericksburg so this mall was a HUGE step up on all fronts. Sure the Tysons Corner and Pentagon City malls are tops in the area but Fair Oaks is a very accessible substitute.

I love the seasonal decorations, especially the Chinese New Year and Christmas. There are new restaurants such as Kona Grill, Brio Tucson Grille, and On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina;. stores, Sephora, Michael Kors, Childrens Science Center/Lab, and Capital Teas. The Michael & Son playground is very popular at times. Lots of seating for your comfort throughout the upscale mall. DMV for your convenience! And lastly, Customer Service, a nice personal touch providing a variety of mall services. Check it out.

I worked on a job doing demolition&construction,we tore out the old store & built a photography studio at Fair Oaks Mall,it was the holidays and i could not believe how beautiful they had it,it was like nothing ive seen before, they were taking pictures in a man-made snowglobe, even had snow falling. It had every store imaginable, the food court was great and working usually isnt fun, especially in construction but i looked forward to going to work.Im from Georgia and if i go north, first stop will be Fair Oaks Mall.

Fair Oaks Mall has gotten a face lift (2015), and while it is a very clean and comfortable mall to shop at (never too crowded), it also is missing many of the shops one might want. The biggest con at Fair Oaks might be that they offer two Macys, instead of having another department store such as Nordstrom in place. If youre looking for a place to go to get out of the house and spend some time, this mall is perfect. If youre looking for a true shopping destination, it probably will seem a bit lackluster.
