Its a fun place to go to and the perfect meet up spot. The biggest downer is that parking is overpriced and limited on the days/nights most people are out and about. I usually try going to the downtown mall during its "off" days and times. Good places to eat: Revolutionary Soup (great taste and reasonably priced), Miso Sweet (flavor is there but price is not), Citizen Burger (theyre okay but pricey), Violet Crown (they do it all and its all reasonably priced), and Marco and Lucas Dumplings (addicted to their dumplings, no lie). Good places for sweets: Kilwins (you pay a little more than you would at Sweet Frog or Chaps, but its worth it), Splendoras (I would consume every drop of their product if theyd let me, they are so worth every dollar I have spent there), Chaps (cheap and tasty), and Sweet Frog (theyre good, but I prefer Kilwins or Chaps). Coffee: Mudhouse (a little pricey for what you get and theyre kind of slow), Violet Crown (great flavor and affordable, plus you dont have to buy a movie ticket to get a cup of coffee), and theres Shenandoah Joe on Preston Ave (sometime theyre music is a little too loud, but other than that theyre reasonably priced and have good flavor). Movies: Violet Crown (the only place I go to for movies now). Tea: Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar (it gets hot upstairs really quickly, but their tea selection is unbeatable and if you go with a small group its worth it). Pokemon Go is also a popular thing there. Lots of Poke stuff.

Love the downtown mall! Lovely shops and restaurants. I have yet to be disappointed in any sercice or food. It is a pedestrian mall but you can drive up a couple of side streets to drop people off (elderly, handicap) but it depends on the person to how far they can go from there. It is possible that they wouldnt be able to walk to stores or restaurants mid-block. The mall holds events at its amphitheater, like Pride festival, and its always set up well and cleaned up like it never existed. You can bring your dog to restaurants with outside seating and they have a couple of pet boutiques! So blessed to be able to walk to this amazing spot whenever I want while were here!

This mall has numerous shops each unique. The tree lined brick walkways are charming. There are many places to sit and people watch if you want. The co-op stores were our favorites. The clerks in nearly every store were so personable. That part was delightful. The large number of people begging for money or attempting to lecture the public on their religious, political or environmental beliefs got really old especially in such a small area. No one was rude but some were a bit overbearing. Sadly many of the stores were closed even though we researched to see what was open on Labor Day.

Great place to find a variety of food and entertainment. Shopping is a bit too much in terms of what I would spend, but if you have money to blow its ideal. The atmosphere is great and speaks of fun and excitement! If you dont like crowded places this isnt necessarily the spot to go but if youre introverted and like to do your own thing its okay, because even though there are loads of people you wont be unnecessarily bothered. I recommend the area for anyone visiting Cville.

Another awesome thing about Charlottesville is our downtown pedestrian mall. Closed off to traffic, its a safe place for all. Many great restaurants, cafes, antique stores, clothing stores, theaters (both movie and live), bars and night clubs, and of course our amphitheatre. In the summer months we have free live concerts every Friday night. Its a great place for families, singles, couples, groups and anyone looking for some really unique things to do. Something for everyone!

GREAT PEDESTRIAN MALL WITH SHOPPING AND RESTAURANTS. get some old fashioned pie and sandwiches at the old fashioned drug store soda shop with stools at the counter and a fireplace that they even light sometimes in the winter. Classic! Musicians on the street, everyone brings their dogs, open air restaurant seating, antique shops, specialty paper and clothing stores. I loved it and wandered up and down for hours. Could have gone back over and over again. Next time.

Excellent place to stroll, dine, have coffee, dessert, meet friends. several watering holes but I cant speak to them. locals and tourist meet here, students and faculty. young and not so young. not great for elderly or differently abled... not enough seating and some uneven paving bricks. trendy but not precious. almost entirely locally owned/operated. several good music, movie, entertainment venues too. parking can be a drag, but not overly expensive.

I adore this place, whenever I say Im going to charlottesville, its usually for the shopping and culture that IS found in fashion square. There is a decent night life with pubs open later, and quite a few day time events. An eclectic mix of vendors adorn the middle of the brick pathway selling everything from pottery to comic books and even hand made jewelry.

This is not a mall, but rather a pedestrian walkway connecting restaurants, homes, and every manner of business. I moved to Charlottesville when most of these shops were boarded up dumps, and Ive watched it transform over my lifetime to something unique, occasionally charming, but always delicious. No Cville experience is complete without it.

Be careful, some roads pass through the walkway. Beautiful area. Well landscaped. Restrooms available. Restaraunts for all tastes. Shops, cafes, banks, museums, arts...its all here. Easy to walk. Plenty of places to sit. Not everything is in a high price range, but some places are. Plenty of parking. Pleasing architectures.

My first trip to Charlottesville downtown mall, pedestrian only and lined with pubs, restaurants and speciality shops. Truly a treat to visit. Many college students mixed with locals. Local artists were abound with craftsman style jewelry and clothing, mixed with musicians.

Quaint, outside mall with unique stores, artistic statues throughout, and ended at the amphitheater. We were lucky and were there during the free concert series. Only issue I had was the extreme heat but all stores were air conditioned.

This was my first visit to the area. It was very nice. On my visit we saw several performances and nice specialty shops. There were also quite a few places to choose from if you wanted to grab a bite to eat or something sweet. Lovely

If youre ever in Charlottesville, you cannot miss going to the Downtown Mall. Its the heart of the city with lots of amazing restaurants and coffee shops as well as free events, such as Fridays after 5 (free music at the pavillion).

Charlottesville has turned an otherwise ugly area around a number of municipal buildings and a highway into a wonderful concert venue and public space. Absolutely worth a visit, especially for the Fridays after Five events

Great open air shopping district. On Fridays they have live music and a very festive atmosphere for couples, singles and families. Many great restaurants to choose from. One of my favorite things about my trip to Cville

Love the historic buildings the wide open space between buildings with many areas shaded by the tree canopy. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful shopping area with great places to eat or just sit, or listen to street musician.
