Have patronized Half Price books for years, I stopped by today to sell a bunch of mystery books I had accumulated over the last year (Im a voracious reader). I took in two nearly full reusable, cloth grocery bags that contained around 40 books both paperback and hardback. The books were in good condition. The associate at the buying counter told me it would be around 20 minutes. While I waited, I browsed the used mystery books and selected three from well known authors. I figured I would surely receive more than enough from selling my other books to pay for the three. They called my name and I went up to the counter and they offered me $1.00 (this is not a typo, one whole dollar). They explained that they were getting a lot of mysteries and that was all they could offer. Said "supply and demand" as if that said it all. i then said, if they getting so many mysteries, shouldnt I see a corresponding reduction in the price of books they were selling? They replied it didnt work that way and made sure to tell me again "supply and demand". I took the dollar and went to pay for the 3 I had selected. The cost for the three books was $16.21! I asked to speak to the manager. The assistant manager came up and basically told me the same thing. So....based on what they told me, I can help them out by never selling them another book again. This should help reduce the "flood" of mysteries being sold. I also told the asst. Mgr that I wouldnt return to this or any other Half Price book store. Ill just stick with my Kindle. What a ripoff! They lost a customer of 30 plus years.

I bought a box set of Indiana Jones as a gift, didnt think to check if the dvds were in the cases because usually all their dvds are in them. After gifting the box set it turns out the dvds were not ever given to me so I return to ask if they can find them for and let me go on my way. I have never had an issue with the customer service here ever but today the manager Nick was completely unprofessional. Not only did he dismiss me and say if I didnt have the sticker where they sold it to me or the receipt then he didnt have anything for me but he was rude to his employees also got into an altercation with another customer who just spent $100. He said "I dont care if you spend $100, we make $1000s". The customer said F U and walked out to which Nick the "manager" chased him into the parking lot screaming for his name and banning him from the store because in his words "I have the power to ban you" worst manager EVER!!! If you go, ask for Joe, he was the manager I called back and he actually treated me like a person and was helpful to solve my problem.

yes the prices are reasonable, but the resale of your book back to them is an insulting experience. For example, I paid 5.98 for a gook by a Mckinney author I knew, read it, returned it the next week and they offered me 75 cents for it. This after waiting nearly 30 minutes for their "appraiser" to look it over. Their explanation was even a lie, they said they had several copies of the book and when I went to the shelves to see I saw none. I threw the 75 cent voucher away and gave them the book. I went back several days later and only one copy of the book was on the shelves, mine. I recognized it by the autograph signed by the author to an individual. If you complain about the prices they pay they can get ugly with you quickly and I assume that happens frequently. Robert in Mckinney

Reasonably priced books but if trying to sell you wont be getting anything worthwhile. Records are DISGUSTINGLY overpriced, more so than their other locations. Few years ago I could pick up used Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Molly Hatchet records here for $7 or $8, now used records in similar condition are being priced around $20 a piece. Better off shopping for music at the Northwest Highway location, paid $4 for a used jazz lp there and when looking for similar jazz here I could only find used material for around $16-$21. Looks like theyre trying to capitalize on the current trend in kids buying vinyl. Tapes and CDs are priced well, but if you want vinyl Id go elsewhere.

I shop here a lot but I had trouble with trading some things in! There is this Asian woman who is very fussy and wont take anything I try to trade in. It happened to me twice! I tried to trade in a Wii U and she said she couldnt buy it from me because it was locked and didnt have the Gamepad. Also I tried to trade in a Kindle and she said she couldnt buy it from me because she said it needed to be deregistered. If she is there dont trade in anything because she wont buy it from you! So dont waste your time here!

I called to see if they had some books I wanted to read. They did and the lady that answered was so nice and offered to hold them for me. Then when I went to pick up the books they were at the register waiting for me. Theyoung lady who was the cashier was super friendly and had a great smile. For such a small store they are blessed with two wonderful employees that really help the stores atmosphere.

Clean and organized, common smaller size when compared to the flagship in Dallas of course. Staff is knowledgeable and fast when selling items - was able to get in and get cash in 5 - 10 minutes. Cash is same amount as store credit would be. Fun to browse but if you want to get serious youll have to go to the Dallas location!

I was looking for Enders Shadow, and the only copy on the shelf was a "Teachers copy" that specifically stated not for resale on the back. I went to the front fully prepared to pay for it, but the clerk stuck with it and I got the book for free. I like that they respected it enough to do so, very cool.

One of the best Half Prices Ive been to. One of my hobbies is going to used bookstores to look at movies, specifically Criterion Collection film. In this store, I found about five or six Criterions, plus two out-of-print Criterions! This was a great store and it had the right prices.

Nice staff but no flexibilty. If the book is "old", you get a low buy back price. If the book is popular, that means a lot of people are buying it, so you get a low buy back price. If the book has been on their shelves a long time, you get a low back price. See a patter here?

Greatest store ever. Lots of books, lots of movies, lots of music, lots of just random bits of media that youd never see anywhere else. I love shopping here because they always seem to have something Ive been looking for and its usually for a very reasonable price.

The opportunity to sell, buy, trade most every form of media is incredible. The price you get for your own items isnt that competitive. But its a gift to be able to share your reads, get recommendations and keep this business up and local!!!!
