This place is a joke. They talk me in to purchasing their "house brand rods". Tell me how great they are. If you ever have a problem theyll replace them for free! Wow. Great deal. I bought 6 as I fish a lot. The rods break constantly. I mean all the time. They are junk. Ive gone to replace them 3 times and funny thing is they never, ever, never have them. They have plenty of $150 rods lol. They give me store credit but I need the rods to fish. Neither store, Portland or corpus had any. Seems fishy. Folks these rods are absolute junk. H20 or something they are called. There is no warranty as they are never in stock. I got my store credit and had to go to Roys to purchase rods ( by the way they had more gear than academy ever had. Plenty of every kind of rods , reels, I mean everything you need. Great place. No junk !!) Academy wouldnt refund my money either. Said to check back in a couple of weeks to see if they were there. Heck wal Mart is better than that and has more merchandise which is really sad. Time is valuable for all of us. Dont waste yours in academy corpus Christie. Go to wal mart or better yet Roys bait and tackle. You might pay $2.00 more but they have what you need and its a one stop shop. Its really sad. I use to love academy. They sell more clothes than fishing gear. Im waiting for the grocery isle to open to use my store credit ,,,,lol

I always get excited to go to Academy yet Im almost always disappointed when I leave. It seems like they never have my size in the shoe I want. Theyre also often out of the fishing gear Im looking for or have very few selections left. I mean I appreciate the little signs posted where the products should be telling me they can order it and ship it to me for free but come on, Im at the store now because I need it now not next week. There are usually very few cashiers and the lines are long. Its just not a very good experience most of the time. Oh and I went today to get my new fishing license to replace the old one that expires at the end of the month - I pay for it with a cashier, then told to go over to another place across the store to actually get the license and when I got there they said because I have one already (the one expiring) they cant issue my new one till the 15th (3 more days). I was then told to go to customer service for a refund of my payment. I know they dont make the rules on this but it would have been nice if the first cashier would of asked if I had one from last year already to avoid paying in the first place (or just allow people to pay and get their license at the same register).

Went in today with my 83 year old mother for shoes and canopy weights. Roxy was helpful in shoe dept, however I asked 2 different male "sales" people where the weights were located. Both of them pointed to opposite ends of the store. One of them was a manager lmao. They had no customer service skills whatsoever. I never did find them so we left with shoes only. Went to Harbor Freight, asked the first person who approached me, they led me right to them. Why is it that these same people with no care attitude, expect excellent customer service when they come to a Doctors Office? What if we yelled their name out in the waiting room, pointed down the hall with confusing directions as to where they were to wait for a Provider? Is that acceptable? Customer Service skills are necessary no matter where you work. If you dont like your job, go somewhere else. So long Academy. I will buy all of my shoes online from now on.

Went to store looking for hiking shoes. Found the ones I liked, but not in my size. Had to find an associate to look in the inventory at the store. "No luck" he says. I had to ask if he could search near by stores. No luck again. Didnt even suggest to order for me and ship to my home! I got home and found the shoes on their website and ordered them. Three days later I get the wrong shoe, wrong brand, wrong color, and wrong size! What went wrong? I called customer service" and explained the ordeal and all I got was, "Sorry, return the shoes for credit". When I asked about where my shoes were, I was told "we are out of stock". How could I have ordered them then? So dissatisfied and so disappointed! Never shopping there again. Worst part, didnt try to fix the problem. Im done!

I went to go price out handguns. Going to make my first handgun purchase, and was excited about getting into the right one. It was a older gentleman behind the counter was very rude, and acted it like I was a burden for going there. I was asking general question, and each awnser was with attitude and a attitude of just leave. So I took my business somewhere else. Found the gun and they lost about a $600 sale. Will never return there to get anything! Not ammunition or anything to such! Found a better place who would rather take the time to help me and treat me with the respect that is due

Shoe department is horrible. Shoes are not in the correct box. Boxes are left empty and scattered over shelves. Shoes are thrown back behind boxes and all mixed together. Management claims they are remodeling but 2 weeks ago store looked exactly the same. Store inventory shows 2 of a certain shoe Im looking for in stock however you cant find anything because its all mismatched and not in the right area. The customer service was helpful but this is a management issue. There is no reason for a store to look like this when first opening for the day.

Pretty good sized selection of shoes. Was looking for a good pair of black sneakers for a little while when one of the associates asked if I tried a specific one. Turns out I hadnt yet, and he went and grabbed a pair. Ended up being the ones I bought. Had to order the black color since they didnt have my size in store, but shipping was free and fast. One of the most comfortable shoes Ive ever owned. Very good recommendation! Thanks!

They dont stand behind there fishing poles. Tried to return a Allstar pole that broke on a nice redfish paid 60.00 for pole they couldnt exchange it because they were sold out. They informed me they had gone on sale for 15.00 and would give us credit for that amount. We told them to keep the pole and there credit wont buy allstar brand pole again and might think twice about buying from Acadamy in the future.

Aside from them constantly assuming that we stealing. Its a wonderful store. They are even nice, when they put only our hundred dollar bill up to the light and find it being real. (Not the people in front or behind) My son is very athletic, we pride ourselves in his ability to succeed. I reassure him that they are only doing their job. Even though it feels like were being singled out. Good store.
