I love Toy Joy. Walking in the old Guadalupe location was magical, as if I stepped into Willy Wonkas factory. The toys were amazing and wack; they had human size bubbles! This shop is a true Austin icon for weirdness. The new location downtown is not as convenient for me, although they do validate parking on weekdays. The toys in stock are still diverse, but not as "weird" as they used to be. Despite this I still love shopping here. I love the staff and the owner, they will even gift wrap your purchases for free! I hope that this shop will remain an Austin icon and continue the weirdness. UPDATE-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My girlfriend and I came here with one purpose: to find a weird birthday present for our friends birthday. We had no idea what we were looking for, but we somehow knew Toy Joy would have the answer. Sure enough, after browsing the store we found the perfect gift. It was a locally made bar of soap. And trapped inside the soap was a small doll figurine, with the eyes smeared across the face. Weird and useful...it was perfect. At the checkout, the staff graciously wrapped the present up. "Wow you did a really good job wrapping the present," I remarked. The guy smiled and said "Yea, Im proud to say I did do a good job huh." lolls The staff is the reason why I keep coming back to this place; they really care about their customers and make sure to put a smile on their faces. Thanks Toy Joy for keeping it weirrrrd.

Toy Joy was one of the best, odd, amazing stores I went to growing up here in Austin. They were filled to the brim with odd toys and trinkets. The place was a little gross but that just added to the amazing feel to the store. I was worried to see the store move. I was right to be worried. I went a week after the move and it was completely utterly lame besides the top grade service. I asked where all the toys went. They said they havent fully moved it. I went a month later and it looked exactly the same. Not filled like the old store. No Godzilla or wacky toys hanging from the floor up. It wasnt the same. Im going to miss the feel of the old store. Im going to miss the awesome vegan yogurt bar. Im going to miss the old toy joy. All I feel now is just some shop to attract tourist instead of the people who truly Keep Austin Weird. Rest in Peace Toy Joy. The real Toy Joy.

Magical for all ages! Do not enter if you are prone to overstimulation. This place is filled from floor to ceiling with toys. I usually let my 3 year-old choose something and he usually just wants a few trinkets from the bulk bins (most recently he choose 3 miniature naked babies...random). When we go to pay our 80 cents (or ridiculously small amount), the person working always treats my son like a rock star--talking to him, giving him stickers, etc. I sometimes feel bad that we have spent so little but then I remember that I have many years of gift buying for this kid and hes not going to be amused with 80 cent finds for long. Well definitely be back for larger purchases in the future. Oh, and check out the cafe for fun soft serve and bubble tea flavors.

Need to find a pinwheel for that ziplining trip like that pig in the Geico (I think?) commercial? Or looking for Hello Kitty heaven (Im Asian; Im allowed to fill some Asian girl stereotypes)? Want a whoopee cushion, disappearing ink, or joy buzzer? Youll find all of that and more at Toy Joy. Be prepared to spend plenty of time in this store, which happens to be stuffed floor-to-ceiling full of toys. Itll transport you back to those simple days when your Barbies battled your brothers toy soldiers and when you dragged a Slip n Slide with a bucket of water and bottle of $2 Suave shampoo to the quad in college for some old-fashioned fun. Or maybe that was just me.

I first visited the new Toy Joy location during the "white linen" party on 2nd Street this summer. The store was crowded with mostly adults enjoying a night out with free cocktails, so the vibe was pretty good. Toy Joy stocks a lot of fun toys, from trinkets to bouncy horses to puzzles, books, costumes...there is just toys floor to ceiling. I returned a few days later to pick something up for my niece. The sales clerk was super friendly and helpful. I thought the prices were good, but what do I know about toy prices.

I had been to Toy Joy a few times but never tried the cafe until recently. Im a committed meat-eater, but I will be coming back for the vegan soft serve based on the strength of the chocolate lavender shake. They also carry popsicles from GoodPops, which means I wont have to drive so far out of my way for the occasional watermelon agave fix. Service is friendly and helpful; decor is kind of creepy but in a good way. Toy Joy did a great job expanding their business with this place.

Whenever my boyfriend and I visit Height & Ash bury, we always make a stop here and buy at least one box. Theyve got a great selection of all their current lines and some limited editions too. Theres a lot of apparel and merchandise available for purchase as well. I always love browsing through their custom designed figures! Theyve got display cases all around their small shop filled with custom collectibles of every size and shape. Some people are just so creative and talented.

Toy Joy is, without a doubt, the highlight store of every trip I make to Austin. I can never visit the city without stopping by, and am never able to leave the store in under an hour. Toy Joy is only made better by its usually marvelous employees, who not only are happy to help but frequently take part in your shopping experience by playing with the toys just as much as you do! A no-brainer, five stars for this unique gem of a store so near the heart of campus downtown in Austin.

Oh Toy Joy. This store is eye catching for many reasons. I drove past it for several years before I actually went inside because I was so confused by it. Turns out it is an awesome toy store, offering all sorts of toys for people of all ages. They also have a little cafe with vegan froyo, ice cream, coffee, and bubble teas. If you are simply wondering around the drag, you must stop in here and just look around, I promise something in there will make you laugh til you cry.

If youre looking for a whimsical little toy shop packed with cool toys and novelties thatll make you wish you were a kid forever, then this is your place. Come here for the types of gag gifts and thingamajigs you used to have to get from those obscure mail order catalogs, or come through for a ridiculous assortment of Hello Kitty paraphernalia. Even if youre not looking for something, youll find it here! Its just a cool experience all around.

This is one of the coolest toy stores Ive ever been to! They also have the greatest bubble tea that I have ever had in my life! Its super cute on the inside and you can find anything! I actually recently found out that they moved to second street and so when I walked by the Guadalupe location and saw it was empty I freaked out! But now that I found out that it is at second street I am much happier!
