This morning a friend in I stopped in for a quick purchase. While my friend looked for a book, I stood in line with a question. There was one woman waiting in line in front of me. There were 6 employees behind the counter, only one of which was actively acknowledging customers in line. After about 5 minutes it was my turn, my friend had since found her item and had joined me in line. We were short on time so I let the friendly cashier know that she could just ring up my friend. I mentioned that it was odd to wait over 5 minutes without being acknowledged since there were 6 employees behind the counter doing various things. The woman next to her had been chatting with a friend the entire time. After saying her goodbyes she says to me that this was a community store and that if I couldnt wait 2 seconds then I should just go to Walmart and then walked off. She returned and I stated to her that I wasnt trying to be rude, but it was disappointing. She came around to the front of the counter and went off, raising her voice and berating me. She told me that she had worked hard on this store and that it was a community store and people "like me" should shop elsewhere. I was taken aback and asked if she was the owner. She replied "yes I am, and theres the door" Totally shocked, I looked around; the looks on the faces of the employees and other customers told me that I was not imagining how insane this was. To say the least, this is no longer my familys go to place for books and gifts. To clarify, this poor review is not due to waiting, that was just a minor irritant. Being berated by the owner was the issue. She made it very clear that I am not welcome at the store by not only suggesting I shop at Walmart, but with her parting words of "Theres the door"

Barrington Books has always been, and will continue to be, my familys choice of store for books and gifts. They are always kind and considerate of my children, and have been since they were quite young and would run around the store with a stuffed animal in tow. Any time we need a card, a last minute gift (thats of exceptional quality and fits the interests of any receiver), a book, or are looking for a leisurely stroll through the store, we can count on Barrington Books to deliver just the thing. Ive been going there myself for over 25 years and Im thrilled to be able to pass down this tradition, and the love of this store, to my children.

While shopping at the Barrington location, my friend waited in line for awhile to ask a question. There were 6 employees behind the counter, so it was strange to wait so long. When my friend expressed her disappointment in the situation, the owner was incredibly rude. Essentially told my friend if she didnt like to stand there and wait, maybe she should shop at WalMart. My friend was mortified. When she explained she wasnt trying to be rude, the owner told her, "Theres the door." I have NEVER witnessed such poor customer service...even at WalMart. I will not shop there again. I can support such a rude and dismissive owner.

Yet such a variety of good, quality books, they are very over priced. I recommend you to go to the library across the street.
