The Marketplace at Steamtown (often still referred to as the "Steamtown Mall") is perhaps one of the saddest malls Ive ever been to. Few stores remain open, and the ones that do look like they arent long for this world themselves. Its rather sad, as the building itself and the cavernous parking garage attached are certainly nice enough; and Scranton seems to have enough foot traffic and tourism from the nearby museums to get people coming in the door. I dont know if there is some management issue (perhaps the rent is too high?) or other factors at work; but the bottom line is that this mall in its current state would be more useful as a filming location for a zombie movie than anything. A particularly heartbreaking scene was looking at the malls display of "celebrity" visitors, and realizing that most of those visits where now 10+ years in the past (and as you might expect, consisted of a number of "The Office" cast members). I will say that the last time I was here it was obvious that work was being done to certain areas of the mall, presumably making way for new stores/attractions. I hope that is the case, as its a shame to see such a large property going to waste in an otherwise vibrant downtown area.

I purchased a table and set of 4 chairs from Finewood Furnishings in May of 2012. I paid for them in full, unfortunately!!! It is January 21st, 2013 and although I have my table, I dont have my chairs. Amazing!!! Bob the store manager let me know they moved to the second floor, the phone number listed was wrong, etc etc etc. He had every excuse there was, when they actually answered. Forget about getting a return call. I wish I read reviews before I bought anything there...lesson learned. I would recommend staying far away from this place. Bob let me know the chairs will be in this week, then he hung up on me. We will see what happens. I did call the mall manager Roger, he never did get on the phone but told the receptionist to put in writing what my issues are and the procedures I followed! Really?!?! How bout this, give me my paid for chairs!!!

I went to shop at Boscovs last week and I parked in the garage. When I stepped out of my truck, I was confronted by a group of men with vests on who told me I wasnt allowed to park there. One of the men, who said he was the owner of Eco Trade, told me I parked in an "Eco Trade Parking Only" zone. I didnt see any signs posted and told him I would take it up with the new owner. He laughed and told me the new owner is his best friend and he was going to have my truck towed and issue me a Mall Citation. I left and went to Viewmont.

This is a nearly dead mall. Not sure what other malls are like in the area but I have to imagine theres better. Looked like only one anchor store. Tons of empty stores. Food court is a joke. Outdated and only two options. Mediocre pizza or subway. At 1230 today I was one of only 3 people eating lunch. There were more teens and pre teens roaming than actual shoppers. If youre an Office fan, go to the top floor near Boscovs (or whatever its called) to see the "Scranton welcomes you" sign then get the hell out

There is nothing left in this mall. I remember when it first opened.. It was a thriving shopping place. To date. It is nothing more then a ghost town. No one shops there. Not even during they holiday season. The good court is non exsistant. What happen to this mail? You travel a few miles up the expression way to Viewmont Mall the place is full of shoppers.. They are a couple more malls worst then this one. Have you visited Frackville and the Bloomsburg Mall. They may be worst then this one!

Expect very little when coming to the Mall at Steamtown - and youll be happy with what you find. No need to compare this, or any mall to the malls of your youth. Steamtown continues to be a reliable place for standard businesses - Starbucks, the Post Office, Hot Topic and of course, Boscovs. For the deal savvy, Boscovs, as well as every closing store, is a gold mine. The Steamtown Mall lives - for now. Take advantage of it while you can!

Feels like a sinking ship to me. I dont come here frequently due to parking related issues, but when I do, its generally not all that populated compared to the other mall in Scranton. Walking through and youll see quite a few empty store spots where as the other mall is pretty much full with stores. Maybe things will be better in the future as if I understand it correctly, theres new management or ownership of the location.

What a shame so many stores are closed in this Mall. It is actually a pretty nice place, kept clean and updated. We came here for our "The Office" TV show homemade tour. Jitterz Cafe was closed and no more references from the show found anywhere. The food court restaurant selection disappointing too. But to every store we went to, we had great service and friendly people. The parking is below ground level and plenty available.

Visited Steamtown 10 yrs ago and ate lunch at the mall food court: not as tony as malls where we live but nice enough. Visited Steamtown yesterday and ate lunch at the food court: *two* choices left, Subway and Pizza, all the other spaces for food outlets empty, ventured out into the mall itself and lots of empty stores too, very few people. I hope its not typical of Scrantons fortunes in general in the last 10 yrs.

We decided to stop by to see about any The Office references. The mall is under a lot of construction inside and there were hardly any shops. Only one reference to The Office (it was indicated online that they had multiple points of interest inside) and nothing worth buying inside. It was a disappointment, so unless you want to go by to see a mall that is undergoing construction, I dont recommend that you stop by.

About half the stores were out of business, very creepy, the food court had know one in it, every food shop was abandoned. Theres a public library in an closed store? Its a pretty sad place. At Boscovs the employees stared at me like I was going to steal something, or maybe there were just confused to see a customer! Anyone filming a Apocalypse type movie or TV show that needs a Abandoned Mall?

Simply to say, there are only THREE restaurants in the "rather large" food court. Im currently a University of Scranton student and I went there since 2009. It got gradually worse as shops are closing and feels depressing. There were 6 restaurants when I first visited. I loved that Chinese restaurant but it was closed about a year or two ago. This mall wont last...and it was opened in the 90s.

A year ago, the steam town was on news paper regarding how Bussiness are leaving the Steamtown because Steamtown owed money and had to sell the property. However, Steamtown is getting its steam back, the new comers of business especially crunch fitness has done it all. I can see people which would you had never been imagined because of the old and cranky design of the Steamtown.

We were visiting the Steamtown NHS nearby and decided to walk over the long bridge to check the mall out. We had watched The Office after all, so why not stop by the Steamtown Mall to check out one of its fictionalized locations. The mall was very clean and nice looking but devoid of people, like most malls today. Most of the storefronts were empty as well.
