Excellent Coffee, Terrible Internet Best coffee in the burgh. The dark roast and the light roast of the day are always on point. Staff is friendly. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere great. But their internet is spotty at best. Its confusing with multiple wifi sources. It tends to work less than 50% of the time, and sometimes you dont know until after youve already purchased a coffee. And even when it does "work" its slow and randomly disconnects every few minutes and takes several more minutes to reconnect. Even now I leave this review on my phone as I helplessly watch the internet fail to connect. Great place to get work done if you dont need the internet. If you need to do online work, though, look elsewhere.

Going to this location of Coffee Tree Roasters has been part of my early morning routine the weeks that I am in Pittsburgh teaching at the University. The espresso is good and the staff very friendly. There is a big problem however, at least for me. For whatever reason there is *very* loud pop music playing, that destroys the otherwise pleasant ambience - particularly at 7AM. I have hearing damage so occasionally ask the staff to reduce the volume, but get embarrassed about doing this. Im not sure if the music is for the benefit of the patrons, but guess that it isnt. So now, sadly, I have decided not to go to the place any more.

I am a shadyside resident and frequent coffee shops regularly to do work and what not. I have been "OK" with going to Coffee Tree until today. I accidently picked up the wrong drink at the counter and the barista "ripped me a new one" as my friend that was with me described it. She barked "we dont remake drinks, you have to keep that one". So I had to apologize and feel horrible for accidently picking up and taking a sip of the wrong drink. Ive ignored their grumpiness up to this point but now FORGET IT, there are plently of other options.

I have a meeting here weekly - the atmosphere is nice, the drinks are decent. I wont buy coffee drinks anymore though, because they charge 65 cents for soy milk! That is ridiculous - soy milk is NOT that expensive. I buy my fancy coffee drinks at other places (my favorite coffee shop, Cats & Dogs, doesnt up charge at all because soy milk costs them the same as regular milk, as Im sure it does for the Coffee Tree) and stick to the iced tea at Coffee Tree.

the coffee is alright. The lighting is not alright. The place has this weird long shape where it goes deep. so if you sit in the back you will not see any direct sunlight. The lighting in this place is one of the most disturbing. Yellow Tungsten light really kills you. On the bright side the tables in front have this gorgeous view of Walnut where you can enjoy looking at the street.

PROS: The coffee is great, and the long hours are much appreciated. Friendly staff. CONS: The staff never restocks the flax seed bars, which is one of their best sellers. Restocking the treats should be a part of the morning routine. They also do not keep us with cleaning the tables, and sometimes the choice in music is obnoxious.

Ambiance and background music conducive to relaxation, chatting with people, or getting some work done. Comfortable for most people, although apparently not recommended for miserable rich bitches or their superior little brats whose ear holes shant be stunned by urban language deemed unsuitable by mother of the year.

Sure the space and coffee are great, but the young women who work here are obnoxious. One swore right in front of my five-year daughter while we were ordering our drinks. More often than not there are no pleasantries, not even a thank you. Its a shame Pittsburgh has so few good options, thus making this into a popular spot.

Been here a few times and I always enjoy the atmosphere. The location itself could be cleaner- especially near the restrooms. Tables get dirty on busy days with no one keeping up with it. The coffee is great though, wish there were more small food options!

The hours is one of the reasons why you will often find me at Coffee tree roasters. The cool reading room in the back is usually quiet, however sometimes its infiltrated by loud people :( The baristas are pretty nice. Its a big location which is nice.

Paid almost $4 for a medium café latte that was over half foam. Was treated like an inconvenience for asking for something different. Loud, irritating pop music already going at 7 am. The squirrel hill location is nicer, go there instead.

Coffee is great but expensive. Wi-fi here is through Green Light Wireless and now costs ~$10 per two hours (or you can buy longer-term packages). I dont think Ill be doing work here anymore.

Good coffee, friendly staff, unremarkable pastries. Update 12/31/16: some of the staff doesnt seem to know traditional espresso beverages. Be specific when you order.

I ordered a small cappuccino and it was literally less than half full. When I asked them about it they responded with "thats how we do cappuccinos".

I love their coffee, they have ample seating, a study room, and in the summer they open a large garage door along the sidewalk/street.

Cool place. Feels very "library" inside... More of a place to study rather than converse.
