I went with two other friends today on the suggestion of one of them. The store was clean, the selection was fantastic, and the clerk was friendly at first. One of my friends showed me a book and opened it to look at the inside. The clerk came over and plucked the book out of his hands saying "This is a new copy and we try to save these for customers who will be purchasing them." Not only was that insulting enough but the clerk then put a rubber band around the book in front of us and set it back on the shelf. I enjoyed the bookstore but the service was less than acceptable. I, and my friends, wont be returning.

I had never been in before, but I wont be going back. I went in with two friends, one of which recommended it and has purchased here before. I loved the selection and the employee was friendly. I picked up a beautiful illustrated copy of a Harry Potter novel I hadnt seen before and the EMPLOYEE TOOK IT OUT OF MY HANDS saying they dont want books to be worn for customers who are actually going to buy them. The friend who recommended coming here said the employee had just done that to him a few moments before. Excuse me but if I cant look at a book, then I really wont be buying it.

This place has an amazing selection of books and theyre helpful. However, I felt unwelcome due to the owners attitude when I stopped by - maybe he was just having a bad day. Dude just needs to chill out in front of customers in my opinion. Customer service did not feel like a strong suit even though I found what I needed in a timely manner, it just didnt seem like they cared at all whether I returned as a customer. Id still recommend coming here and buying locally, and highly recommend chill pills.

Ive been going to this book store since I was a kid. First off , this is a strictly " used fiction " book store. If you are looking for the new york times best seller top 10 of last week you wont find it. What you will find is a treasure trove of well priced fiction books and a family owned business who can talk your head off about them. Ive never had a bad time here and they will buy your books back from you. Definitely check out this gem.

A truly EXCELLENT bookstore!!! Huge selection, good prices, and exceptionally friendly staff! My new favorite bookstore. I will definitely be going here first for every book need! I searched bookstores all over the area: Corvallis (Book Bin), Clackamas (Barnes & Noble), Salem (Book Bin-Lancaster & Court St., & Paperback Exchange), & Independence (2nd Chance Books) and none had the selections I wanted. Escape Fiction wont let you down!!!

As good as it gets? Really? Yes!! While this place may not carry every book on earth, it offers something the Book Bin and Powells dont and cant: personal service and a really cool atmosphere. The owners can locate any book in the shop and offer great suggestions based on what youve read in the past. Plus, the place is like a freaking book maze, making for a really fun experience!

I absolutely LOVE Escape Fiction. Great prices, both new and previously read. The previously read books are in great shape, they wont take anything less. The owners are both friendly and knowledgeable. You can turn in gently used books for credit on your account, then use 1/2 towards the price of any book you are buying. Its perfect for book lovers.

This is one of my favorites and not just in Salem. The owners are what make it a great place. They are both huge readers. They know books. Ask them and theyll probably know the author and odds are the book itself. The selection is great and even if you find the book new, they will always try to grab you the used one to save you money, if you want.

I love this store. I started coming here with my twin when I was in middle school and would leave with a pile of books every week. Ive lived all over the country and am 22 now and its still my all time favorite I love the owners and the atmosphere its so amazing. I wish I still lived close enough to go. Great store! Super advice on books for our kids! Helped our kids through school (Of Mice and Men, The Odyssey, so many others). Also, when we needed a particular Sherlock Holmes book that was in a bundle, they opened the bundle and sold it individually. Maybe they cant do this every time for whatever reason, but that day I was so happy.

Ive been here sporadically over the past 8 years and they are always helpful. I went in last week and the gentleman was very helpful and knowledgeable and guided me to the correct book when I had done little research and was in search of the wrong item. I will be back again.
