Man this place is a continuous shopping bummer but its the only place in Portland to get IKay equipment. Its Labor Day weekend Saturday afternoon 5:40 they close at 6 PM so I jump in the car and I get there by 5:56 PM. All I need to do is run in 15 feet grab a pair socks exchange the ones I have for the exact same pair just the larger size the reply is the till is closing. I replied I dont need the "Till" I just need to exchange the socks for a larger pair his reply is we dont sell those socks here try next adventure. ($17.00 specialty socks ) Sounds to me like theyre trying to give their business away because dude doesnt want to stay an extra two minutes to exchange a pair of socks. I would never shop at next adventure due to their employee by the name of &"@$%#. This person has worked there for quite a number of years and back in the mid-1990s he was a police informant and ratted on some of my close friends. As well I know that I didnt buy those socks there I would never shop at the next adventure that place is bogus and employees and police informant and I hate snitches! Unfortunately Riley Baxter sold his half or part of the business and is now retired with this information I will never ever again support this establishment they are a mom-and-pop shop they adhere to their own rules and customer service. Obviously helping a customer that has spent thousands of dollars on equipment is not their main concern. As Im sitting out front trying to plan my next move the employees leave out the side door I noticed in my rearview mere they younger employee that wouldnt let me in with skateboarding off pointing out my car kind of chuckling. I guess he had to go do a method or a grind or something more important been doing his job. Yeah I understand! Hell I dont work! Working sucks! But if you dont like your job then quit dont be a dick to people that you have to serve. Anyway gripe posted everybody have a nice day.

I visited last weekend hoping to find less expensive camping gear then REI and better quality then Walmart. Parking was a nightmare as it is downtown Portland; glass was all over the streets from recent car break ins, but I wasnt going to be long. Once inside there is quite a selection however I would have saved money shopping at Walmart for the same gear I picked up. The staff was busy and very unhelpful with some of the worst customer service I have received in a sporting goods store. It felt like employees were trained to avoid customers. I purchased a 3 person tent and took it home. After one use I found it a little to small to fit my sleeping cot. I returned on Monday to exchange it for a larger 4 or 5 person tent and expected to be able to pay the difference. After waiting 15 minutes up front while the guy took the tent in the back, he returned and said there was nothing they could do. No return, no exchange, no store credit, nothing. I am now stuck with a tent to heavy to backpack and to small to fit my sleeping cot for heavy camping. I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience and would never recommend this location to anyone. I will never shop here again, but if you feel safe in the ghetto and dont mind terrible service for gear you can get elsewhere, by all means send them your business. Who knows maybe the same homeless man will heckle you too as you leave with new gear and he pisses on the sidewalk.

Buyer beware!! HIGHLY UNETHICAL BUSINESS. Andy & Bax does NOT honor their return policy. After this review, Im filing a BB claim against them. I purchased 9 items plus patches for potential gear to use as costumes for an event. I was not the decision maker so I needed examples to bring back to the office. We did not need 5 of the items and I went back to return them, perfectly unused. On the receipt it clearly states items may be returned within 30 days for a complete refund. I had $150 of brand new merchandise. The manager treated me instantly suspicious and denied the returns saying he knew I bought them for a party. I explained they were options among many and we had decided not to use them. I explained again WE DID NOT USE THEM! And, I was furious he was calling me a liar. To prove we didnt use them, I brought in the suits we ended up making. There was a big white guy now behind the counter and he said WERE THRU WITH YOU, LEAVE. I have not been this upset and angry in years. If you buy anything from them, make sure you know its definitely a keeper.

Let me preface this with Ive been shopping at A&B for close to 20 years. I purchased a new Mil-Tec bag from these guys. After getting it home and wearing it around the house, I realized it was terribly uncomfortable. So the following day I brought it back with the tags still attached and receipt in hand. The kid behind the counter said "I cant take this back, its surplus." My response to this was "Its brand new with tags, none of which say surplus". He then argued that it says on my receipt "No returns on surplus items." Thats all fine and dandy, except for the fact that no where was this item tagged surplus, and if they are stating that fact the on the receipt, and not before you purchase the item, you have no idea it is surplus, until after you own it. Thats a trap in my eyes. They still refused to return it. Ill never do business at this establishment again.

When I was growing up in Portland, and I was a lil punk rocker wearing studded army fatigues and combat boots & stuff, I used to get them at this classic militaria store. I remember a pair of German army trousers made of heavy wool that I wore to bits. Its changed a over the years, becoming a whole lot more expensive, and the focus has shifted to more camping stuff, new stuff, and paramilitary cop-type stuff (which, yanno, could be kinda rockin too, if it wasnt so new and spendy.) Anyway, I did buy my most recent pair of combat boots here (American-made, leather, paratrooper boots) and I love them, but I also spent $149 on them, which is a far cry from what I used to spend here back in the glory days of my youth. Ah well. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Just like the other review posted just recently, I came in 15 minutes before closing after rushing after work from Beaverton. I saw iron gates already closed and some guy was half standing on the door swinging it open and closed and asked "do you KNOW what youre looking for?" If you close at 5:45, then close at 5:45 not 6:00. You already are open at hours that most working people cant make it to your store except on Saturday when there is no parking downtown. Are you people kidding me??? I can tell if something catches my eye within five minutes of walking through, this store isnt enormous. Do I even want to try and brave traffic on Saturday if this is how you treat customers? Absolutely not.

This was a dependable source for mil-surp stuff for years, but recently I needed a tool to disassemble an air valve on my raft. Mr. Raft Guy down in the basement sold me a crude plastic "wrench," for over $12.00 told me how to use it, and I did. I am a proficient builder, repairer and fabricator, I do not abuse tools or materials. But the shoddy "wrench" broke right off. I took it back in full compassionate mode, and they all blew me off entirely. How bitterly disappointing in the people involved, the manifest attitude toward customers, and their responsibility toward their community. Never going in there again.
