Definitely found a gem in the rough here. I live 1.25 hour away from this place, found them on google and thought I would give it a chance. Great selection of camping, hiking, kayaking, fly fishing and clothing. This was my first time in and I was looking for a backpack, I talked with about 4-5 employees and everyone I talked to was extremely helpful, kind and extremely knowledgeable, you can tell these are not just employees of an outdoor store these people truly enjoy the outdoors themselves and bring their personal experiences in to help you make the right decision. Their pricing seemed very reasonable and comparable, and they had a pretty big selection of on sale items. If I have to say at least one negative thing it would have to be their clothing section had very few larger sizes (46+ waist pants and 3x shirts/jackets). But... that being said, no outdoor store does. Im 325lbs with a 54" chest, aint many people my size out hiking through the woods and wanting proper clothing to do it in. I cant expect them to carry a large selection of clothing they would have a hard time selling. So, That doest hurt the rating at all, I will definitely shop here again, and Im looking forward to the next time I can go!

I have experienced good customer service before but nothing as good as this. It started with my first phone call last week to ask about canoes, and ended with a satisfied handshake yesterday with Tom as I left with my Wenonah Adirondack on a new Yakima roof rack. Reece the owner is where it all starts, and it then spreads throughout his entire staff, from Drew to the guys who helped with the rack installation to the young ladies at the checkout area. Their passion for their products, and in helping people achieve their outdoor goals is truly refreshing in this age of big box stores and internet ordering. I could never have gotten this level of advice and satisfaction with what I purchased at one of those stores, or on the web. Our next visit will be soon to get a PFD for our dog Katie.

BE WARE of their return policy. After 15 days, 30 over Holiday season, you will only receive store credit. We bought an item thinking we could return it. The salesperson suggested we purchase as an add on to our original item. This add on cost nearly $100 even though our original item cost half of that. In order for us to obtain a refund we would have had to return the item within one week after returning from out of town Holiday visiting. Finally, the store has a policy that after a few years it will not honor its store credit. Really? They had a poor attitude about all this when questioned. Felt bad about this but as we left another man had to take a store credit of almost $600. Man was he understandably upset.

I can not say enough great things about the staff at the Backpackers Shop. They are all VERY experienced backpackers, hikers, kayakers, etc. and therefore know their products better than any other store I have EVER dealt with! Their product line is phenomenal. My wife and I recently went to Oregon on our first "real" backpacking trip. We bought every one of our supplies and all of our gear for the trip at the Backpackers Shop based on the recommendations of the very experienced staff. We used every one of the items we purchased and had an amazing trip because we were safe, warm, and comfortable. This store is a real gem in our area. I would give them 10 stars if I could!

For an "expert outdoor outfitter" selections were few and far between. Missing major brands that experts use on a daily basis. Sales staff was very pushy and wouldnt leave you alone when you just wanted to look. Then, when you needed help, they were either hard to find or incompetent. When I finally selected an item I was looking for, it turned out they were out of stock of the specific item I was looking for and 3 other items like it. Finally, everything was over priced compared to other stores in the area. I could go to Appalachian Outfitters and it would be worth the 30 minute drive to be helped by a competent staff and get better pricing.

This is an absolutely amazing store. Everything you could need for backpacking, camping, fly fishing and more. Large selection of kayaks for sale, both basic and specialty types for fishing or open water etc. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. This is their 50th anniversary, so you know they have been doing things right to make it that long. Check them out, you wont be disappointed! They have Thule and Yakima supplies as well as yeti coolers and tons more!

I stopped in this store to find the perfect backpack for day hikes and light overnights. I went to REI in Columbus and looked online, but I felt hopeless. I am not an experienced hiker, and I am also very picky. Chris helped me find my perfect pack. There were so many to choose from! He correctly fitted me and spent as much time with me as I needed before I was confident with my purchase. I will always come back to this store first for my outdoor needs. Thank you!

Fantastic staff first of all. I bought my kayak here and got really great advice all throughout my selection process. In addition it was a bit difficult to find the right roof rack hardware for my Mini Cooper but they worked diligently until they located what I needed. They then installed it and made sure I knew how to do it myself as well. Overall this place has a really nice atmosphere and selection. Im a customer for life.

Im so grateful to have such a wonderful store here in NE Ohio. They are very well stocked on all the different items and clothing one would need for most adventures, with a good selection in all departments. But where they really shine is their staff. Everyone is very friendly and very KNOWLEDGEABLE and happy to share their experience. Josh was great, really knows his stuff. Thank you all! BUY LOCAL

The owner and staff provide just what you expect when shopping local. Personalized and insightful help from a combination of personal experience with the products, customer feedback, and manufacturer support. I have never regretted a dollar Ive spent at Backpackers Shop. Purchases include a kayak, backpack, stove, water filters, clothing, boots, etc. Very appreciative that they are close at hand!

Friendly and helpful staff all the time. There is so much that they carry for all sorts of outdoor activities from fishing, kayaks roof racks and accessories and so much more. Many higher end brands as well and people who know about the gear they sell. Prices on that gear can be costly but sometimes you can catch a good break on clothing, shoes or packs at good mark down or sale prices.

Having a store like this so close to home is amazing. The staff is out of this world, theyre very knowledgeable and helpful. You describe what youre doing to them and theyll find you gear thats perfect for it. Speaking of gear, the backPackers shop carrys top notch gear, small to big, you name it, they probably have it somewhere. Good experience, great shop. Definatley 5 stars.

Friendly and helpful staff!! The shop is filled with all your essentials and a whole lot more! We happened to show up on their grill day. Delicious burger, chips and keg for those 21 and up. I was very impressed with the staff! Every section of the store had someone to help if needed. You could tell these people have a passion for what they do as well. We will be back for sure!
