I went into Gander Mountain in Ocala and ordered a handgun. I had showed the associate a picture. I picked up the gun and it wasn’t until I had gotten home, I realized that it was the wrong gun. I called the store and spoke with a manager who assured me I had the right gun-this was without him ever laying eyes on it. I did take it back to the store and that same manager I had spoken with was standing at the front. I showed him the gun and he still assured me it was what the right gun. It was not until I showed him a picture that he thought maybe it was the wrong gun, but he still had to ask someone else. He blamed the order error on “seasonal help.” The correct gun was ordered and it was to be sent via two-day shipping. He assured me that I would be able to take the correct gun home with me the day it came, since I had already completed the three day wait period. When I did not hear back from them, I called and found out there was some sort of delay. I spoke with another manager who made a phone call and made a request to have it sent overnight. When the order arrived, I received a call and when I went to pick it up, I was told by yet another manager, “unfortunately...” and “you can’t take it home.” They called another manager and it happened to be the first one that I had spoken with, you know, the one who assured me that I would be able to take the gun home when it arrived (and let’s not forget his assurance that I had the correct gun in the first place). He seemed to have forgotten his promise that I could take the gun home. I was offered a fifty dollar gift card by the manager in the store. Does that really show an effort by Gander Mountain? I thought I was doing business with a knowledgeable and reliable staff. My experience at Gander Mountain did not reflect that reasonable expectation. When I left, I made sure the sign said Gander Mountain and not Walmart. I left Gander Mountain today, Christmas Eve, with an empty gun case to give as a gift for Christmas.

Good selection, but staff badly needs training and overall store management should be evaluated by the corporate office. We recently purchased a new boat and we were looking for gear to fit it out. I called Gander Mountain and asked if they carried GPS or fish finder units, such as Lawrance, Hummingbird, or Garmin. The employee who answered the phone said that there was nobody assigned to the boating section and that she was positive that they did not carry that type of equipment. So, we purchased about $1,700 worth of gear, elsewhere. Yesterday, we happened to be near Gander Mountain, around 4:15 PM, so we stopped in to look for nets and gaffs, as well as a few other pieces of gear to get the boat ready to take out fishing. The boating section had a slim selection of gear and most of the racks and items did not have prices displayed. Of the 30+ different items that I looked at, only about 6 were marked with a price. The aisles were cluttered with carts of un-shelved products and there were no employees visible anywhere on the sales floor, anywhere. There were a few employees helping customers at the firearms counter and two clerks checking out customers at the registers. With no convenient way to check pricing and with a paltry selection of products to choose from, we opted to leave. Ironically, throughout the 15 minutes, or so, that we spent shopping in the boating department, we continuously passed by two prominent display racks of GPS and fish finding units. Apparently the employee who answered the phone, a few days ago, either never ventured to the left side of the store, or simply didnt know what they sold. Regardless, she lost their store a $1,700 sale. The lack of concern for ease of shopping, customer service, variety of product available to the customer and overall value has significantly lessened the likelihood that I will continue to be a frequent shopper.

Customer service is the worst i have ever seen at any place i have ever been in.Was trying to purchase a gun was told to fill out the app on the computer while he stepped to the back to get the gun.....After 15 mins of waiting for him to return he finally showed back up and didnt have the gun with him but he smelled like smoke from where he was on a smoke break. Then he returned with the gun and started to tell me how bad the gun was and that he wouldnt own it and if he was me he would not buy it. He then tried to sell me a gun about $500 more. Told him i wasnt him and that i wanted it so my grandson could learn how to shoot and to let him learn how to take care of it before i got him a high dollar gun. Then after all that he missed up the paper work and I had to prove who i was with 2 picture ids.....now let see...i am trying to buy a rifle and i have my valid drivers license and my concealed weapons permit and then i was told that i still needed another picture ID....had to go to my truck and get my registration for MY truck and then that was ok.....WOW....2 1/2 hrs later i finally walk out of the store with it. would have been faster to buy one from wal-mart. I will NEVER return to that store again to do any shopping. Beware if you go plan on a all day trip and remember that if you see it online it might not be on the shelf because they have the cheaper stuff in the back and dont want you to buy it .

This is a very nice, clean store, with a large selection on many useful things. I went for tents, the semi-outdoor showroom was very convenient. Besides those, it seems like everything was in camouflage, but it seemed to be very hunting-focused, so thats okay. My real reason for reviewing, however, is that Google Maps has the entirely wrong address for this store, currently. (Right now it says Ocala Road & SE 75th Ct, Belleview, FL 34420. I tried to edit it on here, but if it didnt work, I wrote the real address below.) The real store is 18 miles away from this random location. I followed the directions on Google maps on the iPhone faithfully, to find that there is nearly nothing where they sent us. The real address is 3970 SW 3rd St, Ocala, FL 34474. The GPS coordinates are N 29 degrees 11.021, W 082 degrees 11.223. Hopefully, by the time someone searches this again, my edits will be on here and you wont need this review. Good luck anyway! Oh, and by the way, dont be put off by the street view of these coordinates. It seems the photo was taken before the building was built, and all there is is a flat dirt lot. If you see that, it is correct.

Ive made several purchases at this gander mountain location often because of lack of other outdoor sporting good stores in the area. Customer service at this location often is no where to be found but every now and then you find a handful of good employees that ask if you need help. I would suggest making sure that your employees that work a particular department have decent product knowledge for the area they work. Gander in Ocala isnt terrible its nice to have around they just need to make an extra effort to ensure customer satisfaction expecially with how easy it is to just order something online now days. Update 1-15-2017 Store was pretty empty early in the morning, walked back to firearms to looks at some items i wanted to see in person. I checked in and had to wait 30 - 45 minutes for help because they only had one man (who was very nice and working very hard) working by himself. There should be a min 2-3 all day working firearms, ammo, optics section that will help cut down in thw wait.
