Here is my detailed review for the Comic Shop Plus located on 21st in Heath, Ohio: Let me start out stating that I am a customer here at the shop as well as a friend to the people working there. However, that being said, I am not going to let my personal life give me a biased review of the shop. I am going to be fair to the extent of putting personal issues aside. First off, I thought I would start this review with an overview of the shop itself. It is in fact a comic shop first and foremost, hence the name. The "Plus" in the name is a prefix added to accommodate the fact that they carry more than comic books themselves. The store takes in trades on certain products, mostly Comics (which have to be older from what I have heard. I asked about the policy and it was .25 Marvel Comics and less and .15 DC comics and less. So again, these would be older comics- Early 70‘s and under), Games Workshop models (such as Warhammer 40k), Magic: The Gathering singles, and video games (from whole consoles to the games themselves) and movies. To me, there is no real continuity for pricing. If a customer comes in to trade an item, the prices of trade seem to vary greatly. Now, I understand the concept of economics and the store has to make something off what they are investing in. However, the pricing system seems to (at times) be incorrect and unfair. There are some products in the store that I have done and online pricing check on to fuel my curiosity on the subject. I have found that mostly, the in-store pricing is correct. But, the older product that has been there for awhile or doesn’t move fast enough never really goes through a pricing change. But, to not entirely bash this, I do understand that prices change for fast moving games (like various trading card games), so the price given could be the changed price prior. Back to the subject of pricing for trade ins, I would also like to add that the store offers Store Credit. This credit carries over to future purchases which I find to be very good business should the customer not want to purchase something that day. There is also a discount that can be achieved via offers and promotions that the staff members will inform customers upon, should it meet their interests. This brings me to my next point of review, the sales staff themselves. Coming to the shop is not just like entering a store but going to a friend’s house as well. The workers at the shop are very friendly and feeling welcomed in the store is a feat that is not hard to achieve. In addition to their kindness, the staff is very knowledgeable on the products they carry (and in some cases, even products they don’t carry). The store also has a gaming area in the back where customers can indulge in their favorite hobbies, whether it be Yu-gi-Oh!, Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, and other hobby games. This area comprises about half of the floor space of the store (the area itself has increased in size over the past few years) and accommodates plenty of seating. The condition of the seats and tables themselves can be questionable, but this is understandable with the amount of use and traffic to the area. I have read some other reviews on the store and noticed a few mentioned they felt “ignored” in the store. I find this ridiculous, being a customer for years, I have never felt ignored. This goes beyond personally knowing the staff, even before I had a friendship with them they were very helpful. Often times, the store only has one person working at a given time and it’s common for groups of customers to come in. The staff members will help out people as much as they can within their power. It’s understandable for employees of a company to get busy. Sometimes, the customer must take initiative and ask questions if he or she feels the need to do so. So, in closing, I give the Comic Shop Plus 4 out of 5 stars. Like all good businesses, they are constantly improving and one day will reach 5 out of 5.

Comic Shop Plus is one of the places I hold very close to my heart. Whenever I think of Newark Ohio, the first thing that comes to my mind is back when I was kid, and being a regular customer at this place. Summer bike rides down the railroad tracks from McMillan Woods to the comic shop in the mid to late 1990s. Life couldnt get any better. Twice a week I found myself going to Pokemon league, get my ass kicked in a game, and then cheer myself up by buying as many comics as I could with my ten dollar a week allowance. Unfortunately I dont live in the area anymore, but every few months I make the trip and show support to my absolute favorite comic shop in the world, and every time I walk in the door I get the same feeling I got when I was ten years old walking in for game night, or new comic book day. These guys have an amazing selection in singles and trades. They also have an even more amazing selection of tabletop gaming gear. Warhammer, 40k, MTG, D&D, Pathfinder, and Im not sure they have it anymore, but one I loved as a kid, the most badass miniature game to ever hit the table . . . BLOOD BOWL!!! Ive known the guy running the place (Jeremy) since I was a kid, (we shared the same bowl cut) and I can honestly say to anyone who walks into that door you are in the best hands whenever he is behind the counter. I watched this dude go from just another kid playing 40k in the back by the iguana case (Her name was Baby), to the head honcho, and it brings the biggest smile to face every time I see him. To me this place is truly a staple to the community. So forget about the big basket, the Courthouse Christmas lights, or the buxton inn. If youre in the central Ohio area, go grab your dice, your notebook filled with back issues youve been needing to buy, and get your ass to Comic Shop Plus. Josh

The year was 2003. I had just started college and was happy to discover that located in the small burb of Newark where I was attending classes was none other than an actual honest to God comic book shop. Now there are several chain stores in Columbus and other places around Ohio that are larger and have a wider variety but the reason I continue to frequent Comic Shop Plus really is the quality of service. After venturing in several times to pick up comics and finding that they would often run out of books I was interested in the manager Jeremy was nice enough to approach me and ask if I was looking for something specific. Realizing that we were out of a lot of books that I had wanted he graciously helped me to setup a pull account so that I would never miss out on any of my favorite books ever again. The guy took several hours out of his time to stop and help me become a better comics reader. Not only that but over the years he and the other employees and customers of Comic Shop Plus have helped in directing my reading and gaming experience sharing there knowledge and expertise on items that I may not be fully aware of. Seven years later and although Im just a big enough nerd that I will stop in any comic book shop just to browse there selection I will always call Comic Shop Plus my official spot for collecting because they never let me down when it comes to finding hard to get stuff or just improving the overall quality of my experience.
